well, as per usual, the memorial talk bored the hell out of me, but i found it, in one way to be an improvement over last years when they had the most boring speaker on the planet there http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/111544/1.ashx this guy at least knew how to speak.

unfortunately, he didn't have much of a script to work with.. there was the mention of adam sinning and mankind needing a redeemer etc., no mention of when the israelites left egypt though.

that's probably the first year i've ever seen where this hasn't been mentioned.

well i just got back from the memorial, after being dragged along somewhat reluctantly.

during the talk, one statement in particular caught my attention which i hadn't heard previously.

the speaker was explaining why probably no-one there should be partaking of the matzo and wine, because on the night of the passover jesus began selecting his 144000 heavenly co-rulers starting with the 11 apostles who were present - and that from then on, most of jesus' other followers just observed and did not partake, recognizing that they were of the earthly class.

However, none of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose he said this to him.

I can't see why there is any debate over whether Judas was present. The Bible confirms this.

Is it only in JW circles that there is debate?

Does that simply mean the only 11 were faithful, or do JWs teach that only 11 were present at the Passover / Last Supper / Memorial ?

if i remember correctly, someone last year posted the memorial talk outline a week or so before the memorial.. does anyone have access to this year's outline?

i'm curious because of the new wt article that basically backs away from teaching that the 144,000 were all chosen by 1935. i'd like to see how it is mentioned in this year's talk because, as we all know, the memorial talk is more about the anointed and how they alone partake than it is about jesus..

URGENT - UK Elders (or elders wives)

i am in urgent need of a copy of a letter sent to uk elders in regard to weddings held at the kh and specific comments about the responsibilities of the brother giving the wedding talk.

i'm told this is a fairly recent letter.. we have an elder kicking up hell about innactive ones who want to come and watch the wedding.

he happens to be the one giving the talk and is acting like he has full control on this wedding.

A more recent letter may have made a change to those arrangements, so I will keep looking for a letter dated 2000 or after.

The letter posted is one included in the 2001 Body of Elders Index. It must have been valid then, but that was years ago and we all know how quickly things change...

Matt 24:14 NOT fulfilled

i had my special assembly day today.

(yay!

) i actually missed most of it because i went for some long walks :) but i was present during the last talk, which was given by a speaker from bethel.

A couple of months ago there was a lot of talk on here of a few assemblies where DOs and Bethel representatives were giving talks and saying that the Preaching work had been fulfilled.

This is what annoyed me about his quote, it wasn't just 'some brothers' starting rumours, it was people like him, his fellow District Overseers, and yet the average brother gets the blame again.

There is an mp3 of one of those talks floating around the 'net. It was by a Bethel Brother in the US his name was James Rayford. According to the information "out there", someone telephoned him and spoke with him and his wife. They made the same comments above, that it was backed up by the literature.
