most of the time i'm ok with the problem i'm about to discuss.
it just seems that occasionally it hurts me more than others.. for those of you who's family are all jws: it was hard to leave all of your family behind but for whatever reason, it made you happier to go than to stay.
after you left, did you ever get scared that those in your new life would abaondon you as well?
sass_my_frass, I also like the person I have become post-organisation!! yes, I am very good at making and keeping friends! I'm not boasting, just saying it because it's so GOOD to be like that, learn this new skill and master it!

how many of you remember how special the meetings were when we found out they were going to show slides instead of a public talk.
when i was a kid i remember how excited i was..........i still remember some of the slides.
an old one from the 70's where a blind girl keeps asking her dad when she will be able to see this and that and the father would say " in the new system my dear".
hm, I don't remember these, in spite of having been around a long time
now, either it's my bad memory .... or the JWs were nationalistic (aaaaargh!) and we Brits didn't get them
i have been to a few christian churches, but not many.
i just had a few questions.
my buddies are from springfield ( the christian belt city) and as i already noted in another post we have discussed religion for.
Junction-Guy, I'm with you when you say you don't care what religions do but when it comes to affecting people's lives.... that's a different ball-game. I was saying that only the other day to someone. What people do to each other in the name of religion makes me furious
I'm a Christian but there was no great revelation or awesome experience like that one mentioned or like I also hear people talk about or see on TV
for me, it's a quiet conviction - I feel no need to leap around or try to force others feel the same way... if they do, they do, if they don't, they don't... my faith is private and personal to me - I've had it since I was a child and it's matured now, after my many adventures, and I'm glad for it
point for me is, it's not so long since I wanted to die (aftermath of leaving the organisation really) and I've got my life back and I just want to enjoy being alive ... and I don't judge other people by whether they're a Christian or not - Christians are a motley crew and non-Christians are too, so my benchmark for a "nice" person is whether they're kind and sincere and that can often transcend religious faith.

i'm not much of a poet, trev is the writer in this house, but i wrote a few lines earlier today about my feelings for him and my friends on the board, and he is encouraging me to post them, so here goes.

I don't know you (or maybe I do! depends where you're from!) but I can see how much you're loved here - that should make up (in part) for the sadness a JW past may have caused you (sorry, don't know your biog).

well said CoolerKing - yeah indeed we are "bad associations" for the good guys!! that's exactly what I posted elsewhere on the forum too! instead of hanging out with us baddies, they should be out there knocking on doors, getting some ministry done.... but no, in my experience, JWs don't really like the ministry, they don't like the hard graft, and especially the elders are work-shy, they'd sooner swan around checking all the rank-and-file are doing the ministry and then they can sit surfing the internet and doesn't the gathering of information about people like jwfacts remind you of Stalinist Russia? or the witch-hunt for Jews in Nazi Germany? you elders and other bona-fide JWs who are hanging around here like a bad smell - get back to the work you're supposed to be doing! sheesh! |
hey gang, this morning as i was making some coffee i saw the "text book" lying there and decided i'd read todays text as i never do, just to see what it had to say.. it was taken from john 15:12 which says..... " this is my commandment, that you love one another just as i have loved you".. anyways, it goes on to say what jesus told his diciples who asked him which was the greatest of all the commandments and jesus answered them that "you must love god with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself".
then it went on to ask if this law was also important to christians today and the comment was.... ( and heres the kicker) "absolutely, the law of christ involves a heartfelt love of god and includes a new command.....christians are to have a self sacrificing love for one another".. so rather than say christians are to love your fellowman, they twist the scripture and say christians are to love other christians.......and we all know by that statement they mean other jehovah's witnesses since they hold no regard for christians of this world.
yes, once again they play mind tricks on the publishers and tell them to love each other...rather than your fellowman and people of this world in general as was the case in the illustration jesus himself gave with the good samaritan.. it's no wonder jehovah's witnesses are despised by many in this world with their self rightous attitudes and beliefs regarding their fellowman that is induced in them by a few old men from brooklyn new york.. i hope your reading this wtbts spies, i really do.
you know, Truth_Giver, if you take the Watchtower Society's advice seriously and to-the-letter then you are indulging in "bad associations" right now, mixing with us. I can't think of any reason you'd be here that would be acceptable to your organisation - and I was a full-time minister for 20 or so years so I know what I'm talking about. [By the way, I imagine that you've pioneered for some time, speaking from experience of the ministry as you do....? I pioneered all those years so there's nothing you can tell me about people's reactions to the ministry] But brother you really shouldn't be mixing with us, we will "spoil useful habits" for you. We are the cyberland equivalent of do-not-calls for you. |

Gill, I knew people in my time as a JW who I can only describe as evil - cruel people but you're not tarring them all with the same brush are you? I have to say that I also met some really wonderful genuine people there too .... course most of those have now left LOL but all the same I'm careful not to generalise too much |

i agree it was a good spot Gumby oh I have thousands of experiences of the love of my brothers and sisters but Gumby you're still associating with people like that? I mean, you know they're that shallow and contriving, but you're still there? not judging you but am always perplexed to find this... |
although, after experiencing many disappointments and failed dates, i cannot let go and i cannot dismiss the expectation that god will intervene somehow.
i still hold on, hoping that maybe i will not experience sheol and neither will some of my loved ones.

y'see, I'm still worrying about those who are as dogmatic that it won't come as about those who are definite it will isn't life teaching you anything folks? haven't you learned yet that life is full of surprises and shocks and unpredictability and uncertainties.... and that science and experience are constantly make us reassess what we believed as certainties / proven fact... i mean, you do know the earth isn't flat don't you? and did you see 9/11 coming? and can you absolutely assure me that you'll still be alive in 5 mins time? sorry, it's tough facing the fact that you are only certain that you are alive at this moment, as you read this, but it's true it's very unwise for any of us to say anything is certain, because it ain't! A may come soon, or it may not. A may never come at all, or it may. Be open to all eventualities - you really don't know anything for sure |
