How Did Being Referred To As A Brother Or Sister Make You Feel?

how did being referred to as a brother or sister make you feel?the term brother always reminded me of being in some militant or holy roller religion.

during my tenure as a jehovahs witness, i brought it to the elders attention to refer to .

me by using my first or last name when addressing me.

I may be wrong but I have never found any scripture where the bible writers called anyone by brother so and so, they called them by thier name and then said 'who is our brother or brethren'. I have tried to find an instance of that, in fact if someone knows of any where they are called brother so and so I would appreciate knowing , for it has allways been one of my pet peeves.

What was your WORST Field Service encounter???

someone mentioned to me the other day about going door to door back when i was a jw.

"weren't you scared to do something like that, knock on a stranger's door?

actually it's been so long that i had almost forgotten.

One man stuck a shotgun in my face and told me to get off his property. Another man grabbed me by the back of my collar as I was leaving and stuck a rifle up between my butt and escorted me off his property. Have been called every name in the book. Threatened more times than I can count. I could write a book on the insane crap I have been through going out in the good ol 'service'. When someone tells me I really should get more time in 'service' I would like to take these experiences and shove them down their throat. I realized a long time ago than JWS are not preaching the good news, all they are doing is ticking everyone off. Pioneers tick more people off than anybody. I know because I did my regular pioneer bit when I was young.

Lazy teenager....need help before I lose it!!!

i have a teenage daughter and she is very lazy.

we have to get on her constantly to get her room clean, when asked about her progress, her answer is always"i am working on it".

then when we check, it is usually worse than the day before.

My daughter was the same way. She was basically a slob when it came to our house. She was pretty good up untill about 13. She drove my wife nuts about it. She could take the longest showers I have ever seen anybody take, kept thinking she would turn into a prune. She was runing our bathroom with all the water, so I told my wife that we would just live with it untill she moved out, which was seven years later. I decided that when she was gone I would remodel which I Did. Kept on good terms with her all that time because I have seen too many problems arguing with your kids. Anyway she got married to a nice guy with a good job. She is now 37 years old, and the real kicker is she keeps an obsesivly clean home, is a very hard worker and we get along great. Go figure huh? I think it is a hormonal thing, but what do I know.

ants!

after a recent spell of very warm weather several ant hills have popped up in the yard near the house and yesterday there were ants in the dogs food bowl inside the house.

any suggestions?

Put some pancake syrup into a small disposable dish, lid, etc., and place it somewhere you would prefer that they would go. You still have to remove any exposed foods. This has always worked for me. I was taught this from a pest exterminator friend of mine . If it works for you then at least you aren't poisioning anything.

Jesus Christ vs. the "Faithful and Discreet Slave"

this is something that has always striked me as being odd.

most, if not virtually all jws i know give more praise to the fds(governing body) than they do jesus christ.

it can even make you sick sometimes to hear the fds being mentioned so much.

I have heard many JWS call born againers as Jesus freaks, can you imagine, calling some one who uses the name of Jesus as a Jesus freak. I guess JWS could be called Faithful and Discreet Slave freaks.

Bethelites - humbler than thou!

i'm new here and don't know if this has been posted.

have you ever noticed that when a lot of young men return from bethel they have this air of superiority with them?

i've seen people almost literally worship the ground they walk on.

I have known many bethelites over my many years. They seem to go two ways, arrogant know it alls, or they become mental basket cases. Two examples of many, P.O. who is a holier than thou, thinks his kids are the greatest thing on earth, and host all visiting dignitaries like he is god himself, literally walks around with his nose in the air, the other former bethelite left his congregation as somewhat normal person came back somewhat haughty but became a mental case unable to deal with normal life. My viewpoint was always that bethel was not for everyone, in fact almost no one. Most that came back were changed to a bad personality. You never have to guess who was a bethelite because they will be sure to let you know.

does anyone here know how the wtc came up with the type and antitype of prophesies.

for instance the great tribulation.

Does anyone here know how the WTC came up with the type and antitype of prophesies. For instance the great tribulation. Matt 24 says that there would be a great tribulation like never before and will never be again. If that were true, which the society admits happened before and including the destruction of Jerusalem, how could there be another one? They talk about it all the time but I have never seen any explanation for it. This may have been discussed before but I haven't seem to have come across it yet.

That talk was so looney, that it's actually hard to comment on it. What it boils down to, is another thing like the generation thing, making everything open ended. JWS will just let this go in one ear and out the other as usual. I think bethel is replacing very old loonies withn younger even goofier loonies. If there was such as thing as talking to the dead , then surely they must be communicating with Rutherford because he was the king of loonies.

been a while since i've started a topic.

i've been gone for a long time and just check in from time to time but i had to comment on this.. .

I could never bring myself to say 'field service', what the heck is that anyway. Going from door to door is about the stupidest thing there is. I started going out when I was kid about 6 years old that I can remember. My mom probably took me out before that. Of the thousands of doors I have been to, I only brought one family into the 'truth', and that was my cousin. Just think of the thousands of people I ticked off. How in the heck is that preaching the good news. The few times I did go out just before not going at all, was just a big joke . You go with someone who has a territory, but that is for everyone else but himself, then you go on phony 'calls' or not at homes at the same time each saturday, that pretty well ensures that you dont talk to anyone. If I ever did place any literature I would just give it to them, because that way you got rid of it so it didn't stack up at my house. Thats another thing, all the blasted literature, Jesus its like the stuff grows on its on. My wife must think the stuff is sacred or something, for christ sake throw some of this crap away. And that is another thing, the society might print millions of this crap, but who reads it. I wish there was a way to find out how many people actually read it, even the witnesses dont read it, they have never got a clue what is in the magazines. And another thing about pioneers, you know how you can tell a pioneer, they tell you so. Just felt like getting some of that off my mind.
