How do you know if you're going to heaven?

the only way to go to heaven is believing that jesus christ is god's son, and that he was sent here to earth to die on the cross for our sins.

if you confess him as lord and savior, then and only then, will you be certain that you are going to heaven.

WW: Let's suppose you have a child of your own someday and you tell her what you require her to do in order for you to give her a special reward. Now let's suppose she then says to you, "I do not believe I need to do what you say to obtain anything. For you to tell me that I cannot receive the same reward in some other way is absurd." What would you then say to her?

I suspect it will be something like this: "I gave you life. I also give you everything you need to sustain your life. I have the right to tell you what I require from you to receive any additional special rewards. And, frankly, I don't care if you think my requirements are 'absurd' or not."

I think a lot of people are going to hear God tell them the same thing on Judgment Day.

Friday: You just emphasized my point. The JW definition of "acceptable Christian conduct" does not agree with that of the apostles. You did this by asking: "Have you known anybody in today's military that has had holy spirit miraculously rained down upon them, who then spoke with "tongues", but then afterwards were refused baptism by JWs?"

As we know Peter baptized a man who was an active member of his country's military, whom he had just seen talking in tongues. (Acts 10) However, JWs refuse to baptize anyone who is a member of his country's military and anyone who talks in tongues and believes they do so by the power of God's Holy Spirit. By doing so they prove in these two ways (among many others) that they teach differently than the apostles. And the apostle Paul said quite plainly that those who teach differently than the apostles are accursed by God. (Gal. 1:8,9)

Too bad they didn't have cameras in the days of the apostles. Then maybe someone could have snapped a picture of Peter baptizing that Roman Army officer. (Acts 10) Then Friday could post that picture too, showing us all how messed up Peter was. After all, Peter must have been messed up. Why? Because JWs refuse to baptize anyone in the military today until they first resign from the military. And the Bible gives no indication Peter had such a policy.

So, according to Friday's logic, demonstrated by his stated derogatory opinion of the minister in the photo blessing men serving in their country's military, what Peter did must have been just as wrong as the minister in Friday's photo. I hope God will forgive Peter and the minister in Friday's photo for not understanding things like JWs understand them. I guess Peter and that poor minister both needed some "new light" from the Watchtower Society.

note: from this point forward begins not only my final journey out of the jws, but even more bizarre and twisted turns in the road.

i hope you all find this interesting, because to me it only gets more intriguing and weird for the 3 12 years following january 1992... moment of decision: i can point back to the mountain top visit with god, or maybe today i might call it a visit with my higher power, whomever she/he/it might be.

Amazing: A couple statements you made caught my eye.

1. "... my higher power, whomever She/He/It might be."

2. "... if God cared so much about us as His adopted Children through His most beloved Son, Jesus ..."

Judging from your first statement, I take it that the key word in your second statement is "if." JWs do much harm to many people. But the worst harm they do is destroy many people's faith in God and Christ. Sadly, it appears they managed to destroy yours. I wonder, after successfully leading your family out of the JWs, have you also been successful in leading them away from a belief in the God of the Bible?

the average jw elder participates in extra exclusive activities over and above the rank & file jw: among them are the judicial committees, private meetings with the circuit and district overseer on various official occasions, possession of the secretive flock book, and kingdom ministry school.. of all these, the least frequently experienced is km school.

it is not all that exciting, because much of what is covered is admonition about what most jws already know that elders are supposed to be doing: examples in field service, regular shepherding calls, meeting preparation and attendance, study with the family, etc.

So, YoYoMa, I take it you are now going to post under your "SexyTeen" sceen name. Are you going to admit that you have lied about your multiple identities here, or just ignore the whole thing until it is all forgotten?

So far as God not "answering" Amazing's prayers, since when has God ever answered prayers verbally? He answers prayers by showing us things that he wants us to see and by opening doors to places he wants us to go. When Amazing found Franz's book on the library shelf, a book he had been looking for, and a book that was almost always checked out, that may well have been God answering his prayers. As well as many other things that God may have showed to Amazing.

if yes, did u do ample research and think carefully but still believe in it?

if u don't think that the story should be taken as literal, what is your reading of it and do u still believe in the bible as the inspired word of god?...thanks in advance..

As Joseph well knows and as anyone who reads the passage in question will see, Mark did not have "Mary say" Jesus was out of his mind. With this latest dishonest treatment of the words of scripture in mind, I again feel compelled to ask, why do you hate the Bible so much that you spend so much of your time attacking it?

I see you just edited your post to correct your error. "Mary" did not "say" what you just said she said. It's good to see you are trying to keep your act "clean."

Joe: I think you are wrong about this. Three different explanations have been given here which all seem more reasonable than what you say Mark meant, that Mary did not believe in Jesus. One was that Jesus' family went to get him because they thought he was out of his mind for not being more discreet in his words and actions. Another was that Jesus' family went to get him because "they," meaning other people, were saying he was out of his mind. And the third was that Mary was not among the family members who said Jesus was out of his mind but decided to accompany those who did.

You, however, insist on seeing this as a "Bible contradiction" and as proof that the Bible can't be trusted. I can't help wondering why you hate the Bible so much that you spend so much of your time attacking it. Care to clue us in?

Hillary has just pointed out in another thread that Paul's prophecy, concerning those who would be declaring "peace and Security" and the "sudden destruction" that would come shortly thereafter, was written just before Rome first besieged Jerusalem in AD 66. Then, after Jewish zealots put up a strong show of resistence, Rome withdrew its troops. This caused 1st century Jews to proclaim "peace and security." Very shortly, however, Rome's armies returned and brought "sudden destruction" upon Jerusalem.

I've learned more in 1 year out than in 20 years in.

Everyone who responded: Thank you. I didn't realize it but I guess I too have long been a partial Preterist. However, after reading all your comments, and some articles at the Preterist Archives, I still have some questions about Preterism I hope someone here can answer.

Mainly these: If Christ is not returning to set all things right during a thousand year reign on earth, how do preterists believe all things will be set right? Or maybe they don't? Do Preterists believe things will never be much different than they are now?
