Does anyone have a Blue-Ray or HD DVD player - Wow! nice picture!

my video store has a plasma t,v which plays blue-ray movies all day long...now i want one!!

the picture quality is many times clearer then normal dvd {remember vhs hah}...the sound is heaps better.

is it "meterialistic" of me to spend alot of cash on something i don't "need?

I refuse to waste money on blue ray crap. I am sure the picture is fine but there is always something that they will come out with that you "need". A Ipod phone or some clap trap. When HD tvs first came out they were in the 10k range. I just picked a 42 inch LCD up for 740$. I used to buy all the high end first out crap. Then decided to not be the first in line to empty my wallet. I purchased a cd player when they first came out, I paid 1200 for a yamaha CDX-1. 4 years later they were selling for 200 and lasted much better, a few years later you can pick on up for 99$, Same with VCR recorders, I paid 400$ for one when they were new on the market, I have had much better luck with waiting and not spending all that money on new have to have crap. I also remember going into KUBANs and always going into the high end room, seeing the new laser movie disc, they were 800@ and movies were 100@ but I was told, the picture and sound was sooooo good. Now they are antiques if you can even find one.

If I had all the money I wasted on new HTH crap and would have put it into a mut fund or IRA, I would be much better off.

One of the big reasons the older ones used to get into this crap is that the society used to rail agains modern medicin. So if you talk to old witnesses and they are all vitamins and herbs, it is becasue they were indoctrinated with the AMA is satans man on earth crap.

I had an uncle who used to tell me how the society told it rank and file not to take or let their chirldren get imunizations. It was the puss of horses. bla bla bla.

I agree, There is no way the society will alow any one or group to "clarify what they really mean.
I have seen this done in one form or another over the years and when found out they always have a talk on how not to run ahead of the information given by the wachtower.

There have always been a bunch usualy from brooklyn bethel who think they have an "inside track" on the FDS, and they are no more tolorated than saddam would some one trying to tell people what he really though.

Not then not every. These are usualy suckups of the first order, they think they can somehow get closer to the powers that be by sucking up, but there is no room for anyone but rank and file. You must be a mind numb kool-aid drinker of the first order and only take orders, even stepping out of line to say Hiel Hitler will get you into the stalag. You must shut up and do as you are told.

i do not have any formal education in this area, and so do not know all the terms that go along with my situation, but will do the best i can to describe the confusion i am having.i was raised a jehovah's witness, yes i now realize it is a cult with c.for 39 years i was held captive in this destructive mind control destructive cult.i left and several years ago and so did my wife, she left with me even though many in the cult will let it split up their relationship rather than leave the deluded comfort of their fantasy world.both our parents were raised in this so called religion, as is the norm, once in you are not allowed to date any one outside of the cult, once in you will be excommunicated or as they call it disfellowshiped for any number of infractions, including celebrating any holiday,voting,smoking a cigarette,saying outloud you do not think jehovah's witness are gods sole channel of communication on earth.

once a jw you can be disfellowshiped for talking to,having dinner with, or in any way socializing with any former member who is now disfelowshipped including your family member,i.e.

brother,mother,sister,father, uncle ect.my wife's parents live apx.

My wife's parents live apx. 4 miles from her and for the past 5 years since we left the cult have not talked to her except on special occasions such as a graduation or funeral, High school is the only graduation they would go to as they frown on collage or any form of higher education. My father left the witness after my mother passed away 7 years ago, He has 4 sons, and here is where my question of confusion comes in, He seems to have no use for his own children. For as long as I can remember he would pick up and hold and even play with other peoples children, I am the oldest and can remember him doing this but never with my brothers. He would never do anything with his own kids, if they were doing anything at all, he always had some job to do at work or around the house but never any time to spend with his kids. Now that my mother passed away,3 of his children have left and gone their own way, He had a small plumbing business and his middle son worked for him, up until this year, work ran out as Michigan is on hard times, the last son left to work in south Carolina, He has taken up with a woman 55 and moved her and her 17 year old kid into his home, he never calls to see how his two year old twin grandchildren are doing, does not call to see how his kids are doing, and lives with his new family as if nothing is out of the ordinary. This attitude is so strange to me I can not get my mind around it, my nieces are the world to me, and so will be my nephew who will be born in a week, He has never called to see how things are going with the birth, or that brother either. My father has displayed may odd,what I can only call obsessive compulsive behaviors, I.E. he keeps 4 freezers full of food that goes bad, and when he absolutely can not use it he throws it out and and buys more, keeps over 100 empty butter dishes in the cupboard,will not throw anything out as it may be useful, a year ago the last time I was in his home, he had 32 bottles of 1.29$ cheap after shave in the bath cabinet. When it comes to cars, he is one old man and has to keep 5 cars and trucks and keep them all licensed, he has to buy things in bulk and store things he never uses, he has projects that are never done, His home is a 2500 Square foot home with a core that is a 10x40 mobil home, that has never been finished, it is always in a state of construction, he builds and rips apart and rebuilds adds on ect. I once as a kid worked with him one summer digging and hauling sand and mixing mortar pouring by hand footings and laying a foundation for a garage, once in he changed his mind and we tore it all out. I can not understand this behavior and I am sure that I am not the first to see a person act like this, at this point in my life I would like to understand what is going on it that screwed up head, I know he is a toxic person and I am relocating south, part for weather,part to get away from family who are Jehovah's witnesses, and part to get away from a toxic parent. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

i would rather be left in good standing and keep the thorn in their side.. my wife and my self have not gone to meetings for 10 years now.

Her brother and sister seem not to worry to much about he not going to meetings, nor do their kids, but it is hard for me to have her family around when you know in the back of their mind they are thinking about what elder so and so told them a week ago [do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers,they are now part of the world, they are apostate yda yda yda]

I am selling my home now and moving 1000 miles south, partly because I hate the winters of the north, party because of family, and partly because of getting the elder visit every 6 months or every time they see a "support our troops " sticker on my car.

I am south this winter looking at property to buy, and after I purchase a nice 6 acre pc of land with a nice mountain view, what goes up 4 miles away? A quick build hall.

arugh, I had to see those stupid souls wasting their time feeling that they are doing gods will and feeling so special and above all the other gutter trash of the world.

I hope that not being known as a dubber here will help me get over the anger.

My wife thinks that if they come knocking it would be ok to hit them with the child molestation and 607 arguments, but never tell them I once was a witness, she thinks they may be able to contact the old congregation and tell them to send the cards down.

Well I have rambled enough, I like reading this forum and I believe that the internet has helped so many people and shifted the power of control away from he society to the individual where it belongs.
