My experience in life has taught me to make the most of given situations. Having been a high steelworker for many decades, the possibility of having something going wrong on a construction site was part of the job. This wrong was usually caused by negligence. We had weekly safety meetings and if YOU failed to heed safety standards, you would hear about it. Your life and the lives of your fellow workers depended on following safety standards.
What were the 911 victims lastly thinking about?

HOPE for the best and expect the WORST and you'll not be disappointed!
by Terry inbad things do happen for a reason.
here is the reason.. for bad things not to happen only good things would always be happening.. then, "good" would lose relative distinction with less "good".
the less good would start to look bad in comparison.. suddenly, what use to seem only good would be bad by contrast.. is this crazy talk?.

Do you expect perfection in people?
by MariAruet inmany witnesses are perfectionists.
they have this image of what you should be like before they can accept you as a person, but even then you are constantly being judged, so you are never good enough no matter how much you try.
ive been reading posts here for the last few months and have noticed that sometimes people are quite judgmental and even abrasive with each other.

MarieAruet, right on, negative people are a turn-off !!! Though having been a JW for many decades, (off and on) I still did my own thing. To me, it was my mother that was purely negative, she was a complete turn-off.
Let me share an experience. My grand-daughter not raised as a witness has a mother that is verbally abusive. She would demean her by calling her foul names. When she would visit her grandmother (my wife) she would always cry, always. About six years ago, I began to personally hug her everytime we saw each other and told her that I loved her. I waited on time to see the results, and let me tell you, the results have been positive, it paid off. She's only sixteen and she just recently began doing a radio show on my son's internet radio and this too has built her confidence. She has a modeling interview this week-end in Toronto and I have been invited to go, which I am. Emotionally she has gotten stronger.
Likewise with many ex-witnesses, their emotional needs need strengthening. talking about has no merit, doing something about it does.

Great site Perry. As an outdoors person, no, I don't wonder. In my culture, we call it mother earth. As a professional golfer, I get see many manicured golf courses, it's a sight to behold. Most golfers play just to play the game and miss out on the scenery, how sad. It's sad how some people just can't see the positives in life.

Attention former elders and ms: I have a question.
by R.F. ini'm currently a ministerial servant and pioneer in my congregation.
i want to begin my fade soon.
i'm going to get off the pioneer list first instead of quitting both positions at once, hopefully to ease potential gossip.

It depends on YOUR situation, either a gradual fad (like a golf shot) or cut-off all ties. Your in the best position to know your circumstance. Think it through.

MarieAruet, my girlfriend has this dog phobia and I wanted to learn how she can break the habit, so, I went to the search engine and came up with the following site.
www.usenature.com/article_phobia_cure.htm
What caught my interest was the site deals with emotional issues. EMT stands for Emotional Fredom Techniques. I thought this may interest you.
I love your thinking question.

Great question MarieAruet. Without doubt many whether they realize it or not expect perfection on JW forums. I find this disturbing. I have said many times that JW's are 'emotional misfits". Their personal lives have been taken from them and they need to recognize it and do something about it. We all have potential. Thanks again for asking a perfect question.

Do bad things happen to us for a reason.................................
by fifi40 insome believe that things happen to you for a reason...................that you are being told to slow down, or get fit, give up spending hours on the internet.....................i think you get the picture.. so i dont know what yesterday was all about but here goes..............i parked up in the petrol station, got out to fill up and thought i'd lock the car (as i needed to get bread and milk from the mini supermarket attatched to the petrol station - sainsburys for uk readers)..........so i am happily filling up the freelander with diesel when the darn thing starts to roll forward..................aaaggghhhh..............panicking i dropped the pump on the ground try to open the front door (which i have locked) then i am trying to get to the remote but the keys are in the petrol cap making it very awkward to get to..............meanwhile the car is still slowly rolling toward the pay kiosk and on its little journey blocking the exit path for other cars.............eventually i get it open and pull on the hand brake (our other car has an automatic hand brake ........so being a dumb blonde i forget sometimes).
i then returned to filling the diesel tank up.............aghast at the amount of diesel that had slopped down the side of the car.......................got in the car reversed up a bit to allow the exit path to be clear and went into pay.
next i had to stand in the queue for 10 minutes because the person on the till was on the phone to the police because somone else had filled up before me and driven off without paying..................eventually i made it back to the car and drove off...........only to hear this loud grunching noise coming from the underside of the car............it sounded like i had a bike stuck under there..............so i pull up in the middle of the road in front of some traffic lights and get out to inspect..........back, front, sides and nothing showing........so back in the car up to the lights (which change on me just as i am about to cross and i am now nervous that the car is about to disintegrate around me so i stopped past the lights, but had not gone across the road and i cant see the lights so i dont know when its my turn to go).........fortunately there was a car behind me so when he started to move so did i...............but still it sounds like i am dragging half the steel industry around with me.......so i pull up again..............which is when i notice the little green light on the display area blinking madly at me.........................in my haste to pull the hand brake on i had managed to switch a fourwheel drive/steep incline button on................the problem was soon resolved.. so what is life trying to tell me...........................should i get a bike or maybe a horse?.

fifi40, not nice to ask, but, are you just joining the club? We all have similiar stories, some worse than others, Believe me, it does happen. Be happy that everything turned out well. One of the things I suggest when you experience such episodes is to "extract the positive out of the negative experiences". There are plenty of positive things to learn from your experience. I'll let you figure out what the positives are.
Do bad things happen to us for a reason? Ask this ? to golfers and read their replies.

What Do You Call God?
by sweet pea inhaving prayed to 'jehovah' all my life i feel a little strange right now as whenever i use that name i think of being a witness and i don't really want to have those associations.
also it seems that friends and family think its a big deal that the borg has taught us god's name and we ought to be eternally grateful to them for that alone!
however, i have suddenly realised that even though my mother has a 'name' i always call her mum and would never dream of calling her by her 'name' as i wouldn't feel as close to her, so i starting to just call my creator my heavenly father - i do know a christian who calls god 'daddy' but that is just a step too far for me just now.... thoughts?

In my culture, when the word is translated (saw/qwa/ya/dism, not exact spelling) into English, it is, "One who made us". Even in casual conversation the word has meaning, depth to it. It is not taken lightly.
How about using the other Hebrew names if your not comfortable with the present one?

Bilderberg Group - Conspiracy theory or a scary reality? (NWO)
by zagor infrom time to time this new phenomenon hits the mainstream media, though usually it is below the radar and public scrutiny.
for those not familiar with it bilderberg is a group of most powerful and most influential leader who according to many conspiracy theorist rule the world and are according to them poised to introduce new world order whatever that means to them.
now i'm the first to dismiss these kinds of things, you know, usual freemasonry etc.

SO, Terry spoke volumes? Caution, do YOUR own research ! There is a vast difference between book worms and people who are actively engaged in such activities.
