  Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"

  i was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.

  i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.

  it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

  Good stuff here. So- if you want to F*** with their heads- dont display any of the "characteristics" of an apostate:

  -dont be bitter

  -dont claim to be a Witness

  -be clear that you dont want to affect their faith.

  My family cant figure me out- I dont match the standard list of any of the categories- stumbled, apostate, unrepentant sinner. Just dont wanna anymore.

  When the people who made up the "jesus" stories put their ideas in writing- they borrowed heavily from other "god" stories that surrounded them. Christianity as a movement cant be looked at in isolation from the cultures it grew up in.

  2013 DC new releases - rumors ???

  I cant imagine who they got to act like a scholar and translate! Now that Ghengis, Franz, and Schroeder are all gone- there's not even anyone there that acts like an intellectual- much less knows ancient biblical languages...

  My decision about "family shunning"

  since i've been off work this week because of spring break, i've really been missing my grandma.

  when i have left wt (i'm fading and april will be 6 months) and i told her about january, she has been shunning me.

  i told myself "i will respect her wishes/decision..etc" this morning i woke up and said "to hell with shunning!

  I have decided to ignore my family's shunning and call them regularly to say hello. They of course do not answer- but I want to be clear that the decision not to communicate is theirs- not mine!

  i'm a born in, baptized as a young teenager, whole family is jw.

  i just recently woke up after the new understanding of the fds was announced and it seemed to me to smack of power-grabbing.

  i started looking at all the websites we're not supposed to, and now i know why.

  Start to develop a social circle outside of the organization. Have people over who are not witnesses- neighbors, work associates, relatives etc. You have to have a social safety net before you can feel comfortable leaving.

  I agree with what everyone else has said- go slow. Read up on the paranoia, loaded language, and social pressure that keeps a person in the cult. Being an irregular meeting attender helps- it gives a person a few extra days to not be drilled with JW doctrine.

  i'm sure alot of you have noticed, the influx of new jwn members with "postitions within the cong" this is amazing, i myself am still an m.s.

  working to get removed.

  lol my wife (who has been really supportive throughout my fade) asked my why i am doing i decided to fade?.

  Former bethelite, former elder, former MS, former pioneer.

  Now- enjoying the unbelievable lightness of freedom. I occassionally remember the heaviness of slavery- but try not to dwell on it. My wife and son came with. Still have parents and siblings in who are very conflicted over how to treat me though.

  Welcome to those of you who made the leap- you will never regret it. Those who are still "fading" good luck to you- the sooner you make the break, the sooner the healing can start.
