I would not recommend paradisecafediscussions.com. They have a spiritual facade. In actuality, the administration group of people are incredibly hypocritcal and two-faced. They also hinder Holy Spirit, which I'm sure many here would be happy with, but it doesn't make it alright for them to do.
Not only that, but the thing I feel most people would not like about paradisecafediscussions.com is that although the admin team likes to have spiritual discussions, they only allow you to say things that they agree with and will threaten you with a "time out" or ban you if they feel that you aren't in their line of thought. They do claim to be Christians, so it is not a place for athiests or whatever, or for people who are trying to push their own religions on them. Yet, if you are still a JW, they will allow you to push that religion on people. I believe, from what I've seen, that they enjoy many of the JW teachings. They are still connected to the religion, if only in their hearts.
If that suits you, go for it.

Two days ago my daughter was riding her Razor scooter and left it at the front steps of our porch. This is at 2:30 in the afternoon. We were in our house with the blinds open. She went out there a little after 5:00 and it's gone. I cannot imagine someone just coming all the way up our yard, right to the porch in the middle of the day, when it's obvious we're home, and take a child's toy. Unless it was another child. I've driven around and can't find it. At least it was only $30.

The Friends Ain't So Friendly
by StAnn ini've been thinking.
a lot of posts i read here say things about how the jws are all victims; how people feel so sorry for them; how people believe that the jws they know are really good people who are trapped in a lie.
then i read a lot of other posts about the cruel things the jws do, like shunning, ignoring df'd people on the side of the road with a flat tire, refusing to be charitable to their fellow humans, delighting at the impending deaths of millions of people, and blaming all of their coldness and heartlessness on the fact that they're just following orders from the gb.

I do think that nazi's didn't want to do what they do, just like rapist don't really want to rape. But they have no love and without love you are consumed with darkness. If they knew love and light, they would be happy, not just follow awful orders.
NO WAY does it make it okay!! Not for nazi's and not for cruel witnesses. But I don't think anyone wants to do bad things. However, they CAN fight it. They just don't know how to. -

Hi SPAZnik. Yes I think I did miss the point. Is the point that witnesses say no to birthdays, Mother's Day etc. because we shouldn't give them glory, yet they accept praise and honor when they go to these parties? Then I think that's quite hypocritical of them.
At the same time, I can't hate them for honoring these people if I myself celebrate birthdays or honor someone for doing something kind for me by returning the favor. It isn't wrong to honor people, it is wrong to put them on a pedestal. -

I don't know. Is this really any different that showing love to someone at their birthday party? You are honoring them, not worshipping, by giving them all this attention, and just because they got older. You give them lots of presents and sing a song to them.
I mean, imagine if Witnesses sang "For he's a jolly good fellow" to the elders? We'd probably throw a fit, yet we don't throw a fit when we hear people sing it at parties to someone.
Most of us are okay with birthdays, with graduation parties, anniversary parties...Maybe even to take someone out to eat who has been, what you feel, is a great help to you and others. Someone who you feel has put themselves out to be there, who has done more than necessary. And you may show your appreciation by taking them to eat, or buying them a present.
There are some congregations where the elders are a help. They and the MS's do a lot more "work" in the hall that the average person doesn't do, even though I know personally that there are people who aren't elders or MS's who do more, like actually being a listening ear when the old sister needs to complain or needs a ride to the doctor. Yes, those people are the ones doing the real work. But the elders and MS's do other work that the Witnesses seem to appreciate. So, whatever. I figure as long as they don't expect you to throw them a party, it's okay. I don't do things for other people so they'll give me a present. But if someone did give me a present, it would be very much appreciated.
It may be stupid. But I wouldn't call it worship anymore than I'd call a bithday party "worship". -

Christianity is...
by avishai inthe belief that a cosmic jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

something that people made into a religion, a business.
When Jesus came to earth, there was no name. The term Christians makes sense, followers of Christ. How quickly that got messed up, but it doesn't mean that following Jesus is wrong. Humans have a way off adding things to something simple and easy, and making it muddled and difficult, especially if they're looking to control others or are greedy.
Reduced down to it's originality, Jesus, it is good. It's simple. It's love. It's truth with no room for lies, paganism, greed, power, selfishness. None of those things are love. By following Jesus, people should be loving to all people and teaching others that God loves them, no matter how awful the world views them.
Christianity is "Jesus" with a bunch of crap added to it so that it can make people not like Jesus, thereby keeping people away from Him, because they think Jesus must be bad if He stands behind these supposed "christians". He does NOT stand behind religion or "christians" who are unloving or false. Don't throw out Jesus with those people. Throw out the lies. -

How did your young children cope when you left?
by boyzone ini have an 8 year old son who's in primary school.
he has to pass 3 sisters and their kids most mornings and they shun me, so therefore they shun him too as he's with me.
he has known these people since birth so he's pretty confused by this.

My daughter was 8 when we left. Over the couple years before we left, she had the opportunity to hear our evolving beliefs. We tried to explain things to her more the closer we got to leaving. It's not that we planned on leaving, but our feelings changed and we learned more. We knew in was inevitable that we would be gone at some point. As we learned more about who God and Jesus really were, we would tell her. She has been okay and for a while I was dead set against all the celebrations that witnesses are against. Eventually I began to feel that birthdays are okay as long as we don't make it into a "you can have whatever you want even if you're a brat because it's your birthday" thing. I don't celebrate Christmas or Halloween or Easter and really any other holidays. They really are full of lies and paganism, and there is no way to celebrate those things if I'm following Jesus because Jesus doesn't mix with falsehood.
It might be good to tell your child that you made a mistake by being in a religion that wants you to follow men. They tricked you and taught you lies. Tell him that God is loving and only wants you to come to him in truth and that God is happy that you were able to realize the lies that the WTS taught you. That He's so happy you were able to find out and get out of that religion because the only way to God is through His son, not through a religion. Tell him that the other witnesses really are only doing what they thing is right and maybe they'll be able to one day know God better and get out. Tell him that God loves them too, just as much as he loves you. God loves all people no matter how bad they are, and that God just wants us to show love to others and not be involved in things that are untrue. If we're doing that, we are just making it that much easier to know God even more.
