I was a little kid, and unaware it had happened and my older brother DF came in and asked my if I wanted to buy some land in Guyana, good for farming because it's pre-fertilized.
I was puzzled, and mom elbowed him and said that it wasn't funny. I found out later what the story was and was horrified.
I am not sure if he was demeaning the victims for being members of a competing cult, or being stupid, or for the idea that predominated our area that the victims were mostly black.
With him, it could have been any or all of those things that made them so dehumanized that he felt free to walk around saying the most demeaning and horrible things about them, all the while being in a cult HIMSELF!
sadly remembering,

How Did You Deal With Weirdo Witnesses?
by minimus ini know that some believe all jws are "weird".
but i'm not talking about that.. there are some real weird witnesses!
you know, the ones everyone had in their hall that everyone talked about or laughed at.. we had one 25 year old man who was pioneering and he used to go out to literally every neighborhood in the city.

How to understand the new "study edition" Watchtower
by sir82 init is written in code.
you need to apply a "substitution algorithm".. once you do that, it all makes perfect sense.. there are 2 primary substitutions: .
1) whenever you read "the bible" in an article, substitute in "the watchtower".

You're right, it does NOT make sense!
Blood guilty?
How bizarre!
It really is a superstition, the JW's are one of the most superstitious people's I know of, they fear demons attached to garage sale stuff, avoid the word "luck" (covered dish, good fortune) they stopped calling a bulletin board by its proper name because of the origins of the term...
All the while loudly proclaiming how only the world is superstitious!
Good riddance, I say.

"The World" - normal people.
"pure language" - utter bullcrap.
"kingdom hall" - spiritual gas chamber.
This is fun!

Fade Complete
by yknot inwell it is official....i am out!.
got a call this morning to confirm usual social activities.. enrolled both kiddos in vbs at the various denominations locally (they all work together to have a vbs every other week throughout summer).. 3 jw mommies are allowing their kids to attend the sb vbs next week.. no invites to the dc, only pleas to drive up and co-host the hooky pool party.. i feel kinda guilty since i know many damn near everyone has have had such horrific experiences leaving.. i wanna tell everyone thank you!
because without this site and the fellowship i would still be a captive.

Yknot,
That made me smile. I am glad for you and thank you for sharing that.
My gf Beck and I have had some pretty heavy discussions about something similar, she went to private Lutheran School and wanted our kids to do the same, but it took some time to bring me around.
But I really think I have come around and am on board.
I am happy for you that you had an easier time with it and are well and truly faded.
God Bless,

What a sickening thing for her to have pushed on you!
Such a small-minded, petty, backbiter!
After all these years, after all I've seen...
Stories such as this still have the capacity to give me pause.
I just have to stop and shake my head.
This is just a suggestion, but maybe you can find a measure of peace by "replacing" it.
Those flags are available brand new online, and you can take it to his grave and say a few words.
Explaining, as much to yourself as to any supernatural presence, how the event has hurt you, how much you regret what she misled you to do.
It can obviously never be a true replacement, but maybe it can help dull the outrage and regrets.
Just saying, is all, YMMV.

"We don' need no stinking badges!

Oh, that WOULD be a lark showing up with one of THOSE on at my mom's!
I can just see their faces, wondering why and how, but not wanting to ask because it will result in more 'evil slave' info and they just don't wanna go there with me.
Maybe even do a photoshop parody of the badge, like change the words to some kind of priceless WTW-ism, and put my name as "Ray Franz!"
Yeah, if someone could put that up, I'd be grateful.

"Knock" Saturday Brothers keep "encouraging" me so I let them have it!
by Witness 007 inthis brother just won't take the hint....he leaves me his phone number and i don't call...he "encourages" me to the meeting and i never go...he tells my wife i "look depressed".....he won't give up?
so he calls on me saturday and says: "so your not interested in coming to meetings at the moment?
" i say {suprisingly} "no not really....there are some doctrinal matters i don't agree with...i don't want to really discuss it...it's just blood and 607 b.c.e".

You let him have it alright!
