Keep them coming! Best laugh I've had in ages!
Humor is what touched me most when I was a lurker.
It has a power to reach us in a way that cold debates about doctrine never could.
Amen to that bro!

JW Kingdom Hall Target of Arson Fire
by kwr inboise - fire crews are investigating an arson fire that destroyed a boise church overnight.
that fire happened at the jehovahs witness church just off of roosevelt and st. andrews just after 2 a.m. .
when crews arrived on scene, they found the building engulfed in flames, and say someone set the fire intentionally.

As I recall, I was around 8 years old when our kingdumb hall burned down, Sunday meeting was cancelled.
I can still remember the expression on the sister's face who came to our house to tell us. She was so very, very disappointed. I was so very, very estatic!

Is it true that the WT uses hypnosis covertly during KH meetings?
by seatrout ini personally am a sceptic regarding the validity of hypnosis as a form of mind control.
i associate it with entertainment tricks pulled by stage performers.. i never experienced any weird happenings during my only two visits to a kh.
is anyone able to refute me?

I remember as kid working at the mighty Burger King one day we heard voices coming over our internal PA, it was a guy talking on a CB radio. Apparently it was far more common years ago when these types of PA systems were much more vulnerable to other signals. Some people knew this and would taunt us lowely burger flippers from the parking lot!! It was actually pretty funny....
Exactly what I was saying. It's not that difficult today either, nowadays they simply change their frequency on a regular basis. With a scanner that's not hard to get past. The biggest hurdle then would be to have a radio that transmits on that particular frequency... But a simple google search will quickly find you something cheap and quick to build that would do the trick...

I think they do use a form of hypnosis... it's called 'Repetition For Emphasis'. Like the craptower study where the paragraphs are read, then the questions then half a dozen answers straight from the mag. After you've already done a similar study at home yourself. As for subliminal messages etc, no they don't use those.
I think Heathen's experience could quite easily be explained if the congregation was using a wireless microphone system (in my experience, most do). It's not hard for someone (like a prankster) to find what frequency these systems use, they are heavily regulated by the ACMA (or equiv U.S. system). If all else fails, all someone would have to do is stand near a KH with a scanner and find out that way. From there, it would be pretty easy to stand near the hall somewhere and talk over their microphone system. No magic tricks.
It could even have been frequency splatter. Happened with the local KH here a couple of years ago. They were splattering an amateur repeater located 1/2 a km away, they were using a frequency that was a few megahertz apart from the one the repeater was on. Anyone trying to use this repeater when there was a meeting on found it impossible as the dubs kept going over their signal (as they were located much closer to the repeater).

Today I learned not to be afraid to be called Atheist
by Gopher ini was inspired to go by a fellow poster on the board who encouraged me to examine atheism a little more closely.
i am glad i went.. (now if anyone wants to come here and encourage me to be religious, sorry i won't respond to that on this thread.
feel free to start your own thread about the wonders of belief.).

Great thread Gopher!
I've been giving this matter a lot of thought lately as well. When I say 'lately' I mean the last ten years...
I've looked into a lot of religions and beliefs, they sound nice on the surface but I just can't get past the though that if there was a 'higher being' out there, how could he/she/it allow what's happening to continue? Why does there have to be that higher being in the first place? While I do believe the bible and in particular the story of Jesus holds a lot of significance because of the impact this character has made, I don't believe it ever actually occured (in case anyone didn't notice)
I'm an atheist too!
Dp atheists lack dignity and morals? Are they non-believers merely because they want to do whatever the heck they feel like? Not really. They are that way because they believe a logical approach based on science and reason is the most solid way to approach life's dilemmas. They believe that doing good is for the love of humanity, and that it isn't necessary to fear a deity's promise of a bad or non-existent afterlife as discouragement from doing wrong.
That's what we're told aren't we? It appears to me as though people need to have some form of fear placed on them in order to do good works. Treat people well and you'll spend eternity in heaven/paradise or whatever. Don't and you'll spend eternity in seering pain being jabbed with red hot pokers while being forced to watch 'Jerry Springer' (or whatever).
What happens when you take that fear away? You're left with no other motive that simply wanting to do good. I come across this time and time again with the atheists I know. No motives other than hoping you'll treat them in kind as well. Pure and simple.

Shall I think of woman stereotypically and make a list of things you suppossedly can't do? (example change the oil in the car)?
Little Drummer Boy, I was making that statement sort of tongue in cheek. At the same time, my experience with men (current Mr Brinjen included) is they don't seem to be capable of so much as rinsing their coffee cup even if their life depended on it. I do realise not all men are like this, and there are some lazy women out there too.
Great to see so many housework savvy guys on this board

real questions from the readers

but, sometimes, it's just to easy.

I don't think they will make caffeine a disfellowshipping issue, I think this article was all about keeping the little dubs under control. Whoever asked the question must have first consulted their craptower index, (at least it's my impression that's what you are supposed to think) when they couldn't find anything recent enough, they did the right thing and sort advice from the WTBTS. Like all good little dubbies should. They never talk about anything without throwing in a few negatives, not unless it's something they've written of course.
