Third generation here. Grandmother converted while she was in her 20's (after hearing Rutherford's 'Million Now Living Will Never Die' talk). Her husband was an UBM. She had 3 sons and 1 daughter (my mother). Sons all left, never got baptised, Grandmother and Mother have since passed on. I was the last surviving member when I left.

No One to Carry On!
by AK - Jeff ini recall the 'core' families that made up our little congregation in the 60's and 70's.
i had not thought about it, but the very vast majority of those families have left zero members carrying on the 'legacy' of the 'troof'.
here is the way it breaks down - the names have been changed to protect the innocent [or guilty].. the colsons in 1970 - dad, mom and two sons.

"Remember, nobody can REALLY love you unless they know and love Jehovah first."
by AllTimeJeff in"unless they know and love jehovah first.
they love "jehovah".
they discuss how to make sure that though they are in charge, everyone doesn't see them, they see the great and powerful jehovah.... oh.

Isn't it nice how whenever someone starts a thread to make a point about some absurdity in the Watchtowers teachings... Spike always comes along and illustrates that point to show lurkers just how the absurdity works... nice job there Spike.

Aussie slack Security leads to planned Somalian Terrorist attack, suicide!
by Witness 007 inour holsworthy military barracks in sydney has as security, two old men, private security guards who have no weapons, hand cuffs or pepper spray {illegal here} they just have a pen and notepad.....and a boom gate!
they are protecting our soldiers and military installations!!!!!!!
this lead to this weeks arrest of an islamic somalian terror group who planned to machine gun the barracks before committing suicide.. sometimes our "laid back" aussie lifestyle is our un-doing....not enough security here!.

Private security guards can carry weapons and pepper spray as long as they have a license to do so. The security company which provided the guards at the supermarket I used to work the night shift at, had guards with these licenses. Thankfully, they only had to use them once and it was a night I wasn't working. Some guy walked up to the Duty Manager that night and started punching him in the head. The guy was high as a kite at the time and when he got high, he thought he was Jesus. The duty manager had a punkish looking haircut so to 'Jesus' he looked like the debil. Took 4 guards to bring this guy down (pepper spray had no effect on him). Police were called in and it took those 4 guards as well as 3 police officers to get him in the back of the van when he was arrested. Needless to say, the guy was also served with a store banning... he's not allowed to enter that shopping centre again.
On a side note... the guards all got to go home and tell their partners "I arrested Jesus tonight!"

I knew many 'worldly' people who were just as nice, if not nicer than people in my congregation. They were honest, law-abiding people who went to church, did charity work, were raising their children in a loving environment, had faith in Jesus, etc. etc., yet they were viewed as being 'from their father the devil', simply because they weren't Witnesses. Even when I was a believing Dub, I still had "worldly" friends, and was councilled several times about the 'dangers' of associating with 'people who don't love Jehovah'.
Same here Mary, and truth be told... I think I always preferred the parents of my worldly friends than the parents in the KH... they always seemed so much more genuine, and real.

Wow... guess I started this thread then neglected it.
Great responses guys!
I guess my way of thinking behind this thread was a result of the amount of times I've seen posted on here "xxx generation/parents converted when I was xx years old.... left xx years ago... found out the 'truth about the truth' xx years ago". It seems to me most born ins (and I include myself in here) walk away still believing in it. I may be wrong, but I would love to find out and am actually considering doing a survey on this very subject, if I can find a way to get it out there on a massive enough scale.
Leaving when you still believe in it... is choosing death, ok an imaginary one but that's not known at the time of course.
It just seems to me that for a lot of us here, the desire to live became stronger than the fear of dying. I was never really that interested in the pairofdice earth... to me it was just some pie in the sky and it didn't really sound all that appealing to be honest... how many others here felt the same way? It looked quite boring to me... so much of what we're used to and enjoy as an everyday part of our lives would be gone... music, entertainment, games, technology all gone.... forever. I think about the only thing that excited me at all was the possibility that one day, there would be no more meetings or field service (that's what I was hopeful of anyway)... and so much you have to miss out on in the meantime.

Brilliant thread ATJ!
It's all part of their "meek shall inherit the earth" facade. Only those with the most purest of hearts will listen to the Governing Body Jehovah, therefore anyone who doesn't isn't "pure of heart" and incapable of ever showing any real love.
