Bloody hell. All those people are risking their lives because they're hungry for money eh? That sounds logical? Really?

Aust. Election in 1 week - A review of Kevin Rudd, PM
by fulltimestudent ini'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.
if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

"It's Demonic" - What's the stupidest thing you've ever heard a JW say?
by schnare ini was at a amusement park here in calgary today.
my jw mother and my young brother came to visit for a week,so me and my sister thought it would a nice idea to take them to do something fun.
i guess they had a part of it called hallo street and my mom was getting all sketched out from all the halloween decorations around.

I remember being chastised often over the singer Madonna. Apparently, if you hung posters of her on your bedroom wall, demons would get into the crosses and crucifixes that she wore.

Its a well known fact that Labor is well liked by the lower classes, the unemployed types. Go into any CentreLink and they almost all vote for Labour.
Widely spread belief among the conservatives actually. Wasn't it Labor who refused to increase the rate for Newstart Allowance on top of ending the pension for many single mothers?

He can't be an intruder. He has a clipboard.
He was on stage for a full minute. They would never have let him stay for so long if he didn't have the clipboard.
Maybe they mistook him for Ray Martin.

I don't like Tony Abbott, and I don't like his party's policies. I think Labor clearly has better policies in several areas.
I can't believe the amount of hatred that has surfaced with this election. A look around on other forums, FB etc and it seems as though anyone who isn't white and has a left wing opinion is being told they 'don't belong here' and to 'go back to where they came from'. A woman posts about concerns over available child care in the future and they are bombarded with responses like 'keep your legs together if you can't afford kids'.

Yes, it was a landslide victory for the LNP. Most of the people in my city still voted Labor though.

As UNHCR prepares to mark World Refugee Day on 20 June, a new report has found the number of people forcibly displaced at the end of 2009 had risen by 1.3 million to some 43.3 million - the highest level since the mid-1990s - while the number of refugees able to return voluntarily to their home countries has fallen to its lowest level in 20 years.
More explained here...

No, the Liberal party policy did not "stop the boats".

It's not looking good. Coalition have picked up 32 seats compared to Labor's 8. Voting has closed in all states except WA.

According to the Refugee Council of Australia, "most people do not wish to leave their homes, families, friends and everything they know and hold dear. They do so as a last resort, to escape persecution and find safety and security for themselves and their families".
True. Who would risk their lives like that for a "softer government" (as I've seen many claim on various forums/news sites). They risk their lives like that because they are either kicked out of the country they were born in or they are in direct danger. I'd like to think if it were me or someone I cared about they would be looked after.

Jeffro... I agree. A lot of misinformation out there regarding asylum seekers. World wide figures and trends tell the situation much more accurately than the Australian MSM.
