Listener: That is indeed strange for the least. They already have millions of dollars in the WT organization, why stash that much monney over there? Perhaps they are planning a particular project like a new assembly hall. The WT is obviously making monney in the construction business, so check it out: they will deem that some assembly hall in the country needs expension by assigning a greater number of congregation to it. Then, they will sell the old one and re-invest that monney with interest to the locale JW dubs.

I’ve been looking at the numbers here and there for a few hours and I must say that I am fascinated by what I am finding.
For instance, here is the congregation of St-André Avelin in Québec. This congregation used to have a Kingdom Hall that had become too small for their needs. Therefore, plans were made and brothers and sisters brought their resources together to build a new hall, much to the appreciation of the local brothers who saw that the hand of Jehovah was not too short to help them out.
Now, what the numbers show:
- The old Kingdom Hall was sold for 162,000 $
- Before the construction project, there was 40,000 $ in the bank.
- The new Hall is now worth 241 000$
- Labour was free.
Trying to get a sense of how much was paid for the new hall (Knowing the labour was free), lets say they paid 70% of its actual worth; that is, 170 000 $. So, before the construction project, the locale congregation had 202 000$ in the bank, thus, an excess of 32,000 $ in regards to the actual cost. And yet, now, they are back to 3 000$ in the bank and the same as usual “occupancy cost” they will need to pay.
Now, the following is interpretation, but it looks like the society has played with the number with this congregation and a few others to achieve the following result: Take the proceeds of the sale and the money in the account and send back 177 000$ of that money back to the congregation at interest so that now, the local brothers and sisters are paying interest on their own money! And as for the 30,000$ Looks like it was used to fund some other renovation projects in other halls.
If I was not still a Jehovah’s Witness, I think I would bring this up to the attention of Revenue Canada and ask some questions about it.

Yes, Revenu Canada now has a service to display all of that information for free: Click here !
You can also have the finances of all the circuits, congregations and assembly halls over there. Wonder how much your Kingdom Hall is worth? Well, the information is there! You can do searches right here!
Is one of you a developer? it would be nice to automatically crawl through theses records and get numbers like:
- The total value of the kingdom/Assembly halls in Canada.
- Is there one of these accounts that is used to funnel monney in some suspecious way?
- The organizations to which monney are given, are they all recongnizable JW organizations?
Enjoy!

I'm watching the end where she is talking about "the part that bothers her the most" ... hard to bear. Isn't there any way where all the old members of this cult could sue for defamation as a group?
When they disfellowship you, they assign the name apostate to you. Thus, making you fit their definition. And their definition is, in itself, defamatory, isn’t it?

Reaching Someone on the Human Level
by done4good inprior to these last few days, it has been a few years since i posted here.
i was, for the most part, able to move on quite effectively from my jw experience, (from about the age of 5 to 33), so after about 2 or 3 years, i have mostly just read here as a lurker for the past 5 years or so.
it is time to contribute again.. recently, over the last 7 months, i have been through an ordeal involving some dear jw friends of mine.

Hello Done4Good,
I enjoyed reading your experience and thank you for sharing it. The reality is that when dealing with our JW friends, we cannot take any part of our relationship with them for granted. This does not mean that we should not try to keep the remnant of our damaged relationship with them. Yet, we must take into consideration the reminders that our friends are receiving on a regular basis with their church: “Your friend Done4Good is out to destroy your relationship with Jehovah. You must therefore choose between your God and your friend!” Fortunately, through the years, I have found that many JW will take this admonition lite heartedly if you are willing to respect their beliefs.
Of course, this will not address your profound urge to share your findings about the organization. Unfortunately though, doing so directly will immediately bring the automatic “cult persona” to the scene and you will lose all chances to make a difference.
Jesus made it clear: “By their fruits you will recognize them”. JW love to brag about their fruits, nothing prevents you from doing the same. For instance, have you helped your neighbor with something? Have you received selfless help yourself? You may also share some facts that do not contradict the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses, but raises questions such as: “I’m glad that the crime has went down in my area. I don’t even know how my dad lived with it 20 years ago.” Or, you may even express faith in things you have in common.
Just about every articles the watchtower has printed in regards to preaching to family members in silence would apply here.

If you are not baptized, this could be much easier then you think. Simply do research on the JW belief and explain in clear words that while you made reaserch in order to become baptized, you came to conclusions that defer to greatly from JWs and that thus, you cannot go any further.
If you are baptized, state your reasoning in a clear matter to your parents and don't give any reasons to the others other then, you "need time right now".
If your parents are super zealots, then, what's the point of not being disfellowshipped. Other then family, you shouldn't care about the others cause in the end, none of 'em will care about you.

JW's Parked in front of House doing Returns, Not so good Feelings.
by Shanagirl inugh, i saw them this morning, 4 of them piling out of the car in front of my house and going to a few "not at homes" across the street.
it brought up a lot of uncomfortable feelings in me and especially seeing a former friend who's partially related to my husband's family thru marriage.
i saw her out the window staring at our home and it gave me the creeps.

You know, nothing prevents you from going door to door on your street and tell your neighboors about how the JW view you.
If they start getting after you and put pressure in any way... get a restraining order. :)

No. They made no reference to professional help. Instead, they will follow up with her through shepperding calls. That way, when she goes through with it and kill herself, they will wash their hands saying: We went through the proper procedures and she sinned by killing herself! Thus shifting all reponsability to her.
