News Reports are "Apostate Lies"

with the most recent investigative news report show entitled "the witnesses" i noticed a number of posters whose family members are pimi refer to such shows as "apostate lies.

" even the governing body (possibly loesch) made such a statement (possibly on jw broadcasting).

i was thinking of how to reply to such a statement.. first, ask "who is the apostate?

When I was in, pedophilia appeared to be a ridiculous accusation by apostates. You can get disfellowshipped for sex, drugs or even smoking... obviously, you will get disfellowshipped for pedophilia. However, I had never considered that most people who get disfellowshipped confessed to their sin. They'll confess to sex, drugs and smoking, but pedophiles are a different breed. Most of them will deny, even when confronted by their victims. And so, the two-witness rule, coupled with the fact that elders don't call the police make it a pedophile heaven. The end result is crazy when you think about it, cause there is no doubt that they do hate pedophiles. The problem is their unwavering adherence to their policies.
Hence, the key is to tell them that there are flaws in the policies that work against them. That no one doubt that they hate pedophiles.

i was thinking about this at work the other day, and realized the one positive thing i can truly credit the jws with: .

i have no fear of public speaking.

i was a shy kid, fat, clumsy, with crooked glasses and worse teeth, who wore hand-me-downs in one of the wealthiest counties in all of america, who sat still while classmates got up to salute the flag or recite the pledge of allegiance.

I can attest that this is true. I had to take a brother aside to tell him to leave my wife alone or we'd both land in a judicial committee: Him for uncleanness and me for excessive violence.
He never touched her again.

That CO single handily virtually eliminated the picnics.
That is crazy! Some of best memories I have as a kid were those congregation picnics where we'd play baseball. Even the watchtowers are full of pictures of "brothers and sisters" out in different parks here and there.
What the heck was wrong with that area? That is seriously messed up.

The WT's way of fighting dirty was one of the things that made me loose trust in them. There was a site back in the days, called watchtowerquotes.org. That site was a library of quotes, in context, of the watchtower, on various topics. Only quotes, no comments, thus, no "apostate lies". Then, they sued the guy for a 100k and he took the site down.
I was an active JWs at the time and was more troubled by the WT's actions than the quotes themselves. Copyright laws were put in place to protect author's income through their intelectual property. That is, if the content itself generates revenue, that revenue should be controled by the author. However, when it comes to religious teachings, it is obvious that WT is using it to shut people up.

Some sisters organized an 80s party where everyone were supposed to dress up as in the 80s. A brother complained that is was the same as a masquerade ball, which the WT frowns upon. Result: half of the people didn't show up to the party and the majority who did were dressed normally.
That was among the stupidest things I've seen and heard.

Doctor Who: She was also publicly reproved 2 weeks later.
I hope the Circuit Overseer heard about this and was more balanced. Even by JWs standards, this is crazy.

- Your watchtower magazine needed to be underlined. If you were really spiritual, personal notes in the margins were to be visible.
- It was considered spiritual to talk about the daily text with others. If you did not know what the daily text was, you were likely weak spiritually.
- You should buy a new dress/suit for the memorial.
- Who ever left the hall last was the most spiritual
- The Saturday service arrangement for the Circuit overseer was mendatory.
- Spiritual brothers had a big square briefcase containing a lot of literature.
- Sisters could not have bracelets around the ankle
- Any body piercing other than one hole in each ear for women was considered blasphemous
- Not allowed to have a shirt that named a company or sport team on construction sites
- You were expected to follow in the bible during talks. I would often get side track reading the context of the verses referred to and was counselled because of it.
- Only elders and people identified to have severe back pain were allowed to stand at the back of the hall during a meeting.
- Talking about any old teachings (20+ years ago) was considered border line apostasy.
- If you organized a party, it was a good practice to invite elders to supervise the event

I have to say tnat most ( not all) of these would be news to me.... Are you sure we were in the same religion ?
For me, its the oposite. I've observed most of the things reported here! There were soo many unwritten rules!!
