i have been away from the board for about a week: my mom went in the hospital for chest pains, had a "stint" put in one of the blood vessels in her heart, almost died, recovered to the point she could be sent home, and is home now.
my mom is 80, a bit "alternative" as far as medicine goes, stubborn as a mule, and one of the most caring people you would ever want to meet.
so, caring for her is a bit of a challange at times.
Thank you for filling us in.
I wish the best for your mother in her recovery, as well as the rest of you.

matthew 5:5: "happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth.".
if you ask most witnesses what this verse means, they will say that it means those who are meek/mild/humble will be given the earth as a reward to live forever on.
i was surprised to find out that this is not the official watchtower teaching of that verse.
It's like we (of their "great crowd" class) had no privileges at all, except for being in the presence of or in the organization with "the anointed". We didn't have Christ as our mediator, only "the anointed" did. We couldn't even inherit the earth, only the "anointed" did.
This is one of the very points that have driven me away from the organization. It's as if the "anointed" have become the modern day golden calf, and many give them alot more adoration than they do Jesus.
a couple of nights ago my roomie gave me a dvd to play.
she said it was from her sisters.
well i jump up and put in the dvd thinking it was from her physical sisters (they are all hotties).
I've heard that talk before.
There's no way i'd personally want to stay at a table that feeds me only refrigerated and microwaved "food".
i'm a fader myself.... mentally exhausted from thinking of all the reasons why i've given up the "truth" and then the whole "what if" bs... anyway, welcome me, i'm new.
:)
I walked away 6 months ago and i'm in good standing with the congregation. I should be on the inactive list starting this month.
apparently some food items offend persons on this site.
so, out of curiousity, what foods offend you?
what about them offends you?
Onions. Yuck!!
I haven't yet, but my mother went to a jury selection today and she didn't get picked. It was for a double murder trial.
So many people I know went for jury duty today.
i've noticed a disturbing trend where 90% of guys don't wash their hands after using the restroom, and probably 25% don't even after number two'ing.
encouragingly, about 80% of the guys in law school do wash their hands.
(i know it's weird, but i count) .
I most certainly do wash my hands after using the restroom.
I find it quite disturbing the fact of the number of men i've observed that leave the restroom without washing.

My dad makes one mean sweet potatoe pie. I try to get him to make one for me all the time but he never feels like it.
for a tourist that intends to visit the usa and engage in travelling around and sightseeing, what places in that country would you advise will be a waste of time to visit?
Don't plan on going to Bald Knob, AR or Piggot, AR or Knob Lick, MO
I second that on the Bald Knob, AR one.
perhaps one of the most innocuous of the "pagan" holidays witnesses are taught to avoid is the american holiday .
of thanksgiving.
without going into the thanksgiving story, if there is one, be assured that jw children steadfastly.
My parents did, and so did many other local JWs.
Some would say..."well no one can tell me what I can and can't cook on Thanksgiving!"
