Yes Lisa I agree about the rusty wheel analogy. Being that I was the geek in 1st grade on up, that didn't salute the flag and ran from the room like demons were shooting out of everybodys ass when a kid would bring in a ouija board. This made me the odd man out with the other kids and who could blame them, Witness kids are tought to be proud of being weirdos, it shows your dedication to Jehovah. Any way, my point being that even though I can socialize and get along with normal (non-J.W.) I can't seem to relate to people the way most other people do, you know what I mean? My fellow employees seem to love me at work, but I just don't quite fit in. It's something you can't fake, social skills are something you are supposed to learn from the 1st grade up, not being dragged door to door preaching the Good News. Blah

This is something that only people that were brought up J.W.s from birth can understand, if you became a Witness later on in life, you may think you can empathize, but beleive me you have no idea what Joel is talking about. I am 43 soon to be 44, so I know exactly what Joel feels inside, because I have the same experiences and "TRUTH" demons. You have to keep in mind that when Joel and I were children and then teenagers that you could cut the excitement about the impending Armageddon with a knife. We of that Witness generation were stunted educationally and emotionally, I'm sure it's bad now for witness children but at least they're not sitting around looking at the calander for a specific date for Armageddon, like us drones that were brought up in the '60s.
LDH-- My mother is 70 and she just purchaced insurance that assures her that she will be 100% covered for home care if needed in the future.

The first time I attended a church where people spoke in tongues I was with my mother in law. Before services I heard someone screaming in the back room, I asked my mother in law what was going on, she told me that it was just someone receiving the Lord(speaking in tongues). Being that I grew up attending the Kingdom Hall where you could hear a pin drop during the meetings, this yelling and screaming really creeped me out.
Have you noticed that it always seems like the same type of people see U.F.O.s and the same type of people take rides with aliens, you know the springer types with the banjos on their knees.
In general speaking in tongues follows the same pattern, you're dealing with people with low education and an intense desire to be accepted and noticed. The truth hurts.

I actually went to Google and looked up a website that contained interesting and funny quotes. After perusing for awhile I saw Terry Pratchett's quote and thought it was hilarious, but I had never heard of him before. I will have to read some of his work, thanks for the recommendation.

It used to drive me crazy at the meetings when someone would pop a certs into their mouth and proceed to loudly crunch once every five or seven or so minutes apart. It's like they kept the damn thing between their cheek and gums and then slide it out with their tongue take a loud annoying bite and then store it again for a future bite.
That gives you an idea of how quiet and boring the average meetings are.
By the way SYN you are stealing MY material, which I stole first.

I was raised a Jehovahs Witness, but after 1975 came and went I reailzed that if this were the true religion they wouldn't have been so wrong about when Armageddon was going to arrive, and the whole explanation that a generation lives longer than they expected didn't wash with me. As far as I was concerned the whole concept of God was dead to me.
When I was 25 I married a black woman from the south that was a southern Babtist, I went to services with her and eventually my children, just to be with them on Sunday mornings and also for the music. If you havn't been to a black church then you should go, even if you're white you'll be welcome. The music at the First AME churches is the best Gospel you can find, I felt like I should have paid an admission charge, it's that good!!

" but even as a kid, i used to think to myself that after a thousand or so years of living with these boring people that i see at the kingdom hall, that sooner or later i would become bored as hell.
after all, everything really fun seemed to be a sin and after a thousand years of bowling with my fellow witnesses and groveling on my knees thanking jehovah for every breath that i took, wouldn't i get bored at some point?

i hated growing up as a witness.
i hated the boring ass meetings where you could hear a pin drop on the floor, i hated going door to door and i hated not being normal like the other kids.. but the one thing i liked was going to the assemlies at the oakland coliseum.
i would wander around and find other kids to goof around with.
Hi college girl. The apple danishes at McDonalds used to be a lot better. A few years ago they changed to a danish that is nasty crunchy on the outside and hardly has any apples inside. When I was growing up and up until a few years ago, McDonalds apple pies were thin smooth crust and stuffed full of apples.
