The murmuring phase is the beginning of an ex-JWs progression towards fading.
by Stand for Pure Worship ini suppose part of the fascination i have with this board is, the exotic nature of those making up the member population.
i say exotic because, as you yourselves will agree with, folks such as yourselves don't hang around the christian congregation for long upon making the decision that truth is not for you.
(rom 1:25) this "fading" thing spoken of here likely plays a role into why christians such as me find the average ex-jw to be a bit fascinating.

That's very true, LisaRose .
Some people are better at refuting the wt line - they have more patience and don't get frustrated so easily. I get REALLY frustrated when direct questions get ignored repeatedly - it's like talking to a wall, but expecting a reply! (Is there a real person in there???)
I've tried to reason with wt apologists for 10+ years and I'm tired of being frustrated with the same ol', same ol'. Thank God there are new eyes being opened to TTATT everyday and they'll step into my worn-out shoes.
Keep on keepin' on, all you stalwart fighters against wt lies - YOU ROCK! (and I love you and support your efforts!)

what have you learned since leaving ?
by man in black insince leaving the jw religion, what can you say that you have learned about life/people in a positive way that you probably would have never experienced.
if you had remained a witness ?.

It's funny - odd - isn't it, that we have similar experiences with death... When my mother died(she was never a jw), I did get a few visits from the kh friends - only the few I felt closest to. Only one 'sister'(who later cut me off due to my 'not keeping in step with Jehovah's organisation') and one special older couple(they WERE special and never 'shunned' me) attended her funeral to support me. I think I got 3 cards - from a congregation of 100 of 'the world's most loving people'!
My Mom's death really hit me below the belt and I fell into depression and fell out of 'regular attendance'. Of course, their remedy for depression is the more-meetings-and-service bandaid. Doesn't work.
After several months I got a visit from 2 'sisters' who tried to convince me that 'demons cause depression', so there had to be 'demons' in something of my Mom's that I'd recently moved into my home. Whaaaaaaattt??!! Just because my sweet and wonderful Mom wasn't a jw, they demonized her! Even though the crazy wt teaches it, I'd never believed that ONLY jws had a God-connection. I couldn't even bear to look at jws anymore, knowing what they thought... about my Mom and me - and that was the beginning of the end for me. Soon after I learned ttatt online and that was it, over 10 yrs ago. I don't even know if I'm df'd or not and don't care - the wt club has nothing I want to be a part of, ever.
What I've learned --- if you're satisfied with your beliefs, no one should try to change you - they're YOUR beliefs --- and I shouldn't try to change anyone else's beliefs which they are satisfied with - they're THEIR beliefs. To each his own, live and let live, etc.
I'm interested in the hows and whys of others' beliefs and might ask questions, but don't try to convince them otherwise or 'convert' them to my thinking - who am I and what do I know, lol! I would have never been able to come to that very freeing conclusion if I'd remained a witness. I'm so glad I'm out, it was too much to handle, being taught how to hate the wt-way at every meeting. ugh.
BTW - Nice to meet you, Johnny Cash! Nice thread!

According to the way SFPW throws out false accusations and then ducks and runs for cover without addressing anyone else's posts by discussion - he's a 'drive-by' wt apologist, the worst kind. Reminds me of posters 'Gareth' and 'The Mad JW'.
I won't be wasting anymore of my time posting on his worthless topics. There's plenty of information on TATT for him to read if he desires to know the real truth.

I'm sure the extreme religious fanatics, Armstrong and Franz, were aware of each others' speculations as they both were in the cult/publishing business. Going by Old Goat's info, it looks like the wt had the original bad idea. I suspected that. The long, tenacious roots of failed prophecy is historical wt.

Blood transfusion and eating pork
by Sittingstraight1212 injust trying to gather info as a reasoning point to donate blood or get a transfusion.
why can witnesses have some blood parts, if they stuck to the belief of what the scrip says, never said anything about parts!??
and why can they eat pork, of it's health concern was that the pig is dirty.

Thank you, TD, that clears it up for me. I've had that thought in my mind for... years. It always seemed odd to me that blood is mentioned twice - 'blood' and 'things strangled'. I can see it from a different perspective, as literal blood and unbled meats - it's not 'repetition for emphasis', but 2 separate issues. I remember someone jw told me about Acts 15:29 - "see how important the ban on blood is - it's reinterated TWICE so we'll 'get it'."
Umm hmm, I get it. (:
Thanks!

Does the WBT$ Train JW`s to be SocioPaths?!..
by OUTLAW inprofile of the sociopath .
this website summarizes some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths.. glibness and superficial charmmanipulative and conning .
they never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible.

Yes, it does. Constantly being told to stuff our feelings and emotions. 'Deceptive heart' - shunning your kids IS love! Watching your child die because the wt says so - that is TRUE love! How twisted.
'One-size-fits-all' doesn't fit everyone, thankfully.

Atheists know more about the bible!
by Comatose ina newly minted atheist, she uses her youversion bible app to try to persuade people away from the christianity she grew up in.. .
i know of a lot of atheists who have come to their nonbelief by actually reading the bible rather than just the fluffy stories they choose to tell you about in church, she said.
reading the full story with all its contradictions and violence and sexism, it should make you think, is this really what i believe in?

I find it kind of contrary to be so well versed in something you don't believe in. I guess I understand that you must have an original argument to counter... I'm not that argumentative anymore. But I did do that when I first learned TTAT - really immersed myself in all things wt in order to find the flaws. It's been said many times that we 'apostates' know more about wt doctrines than most jws who are at every meeting. In a way it's necessary, but it's still kinda sad that I had to waste so much time on it.
So, well, yeah, I guess I understand it... at some point, though I hope to move past being obssessed with the wt and be able to just live my life the way I think I should without thinking of them once. I'm not going to continue to battle the wt - I will, at some point, have won that battle to my satisfaction and anything wt will be only a long-ago memory. I feel like until I've completely let it go I won't fully be free. Obviously I'm not quite there yet. If it would come up I'd warn someone away from the wt, but I certainly can't maintain a high level of anxiety about it forever.
Don't any of you atheists feel the same way about what you formerly(or never) believed? Is it something you can get past, like the progression of unfaith - or is it something you feel you'll always need to fight against? I'm sure you all have different feelings about it for a myriad of different reasons...

Acts 10:9-13 The next day as the three travelers were approaching the town, Peter went out on the balcony to pray. It was about noon. Peter got hungry and started thinking about lunch. While lunch was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw the skies open up. Something that looked like a huge blanket lowered by ropes at its four corners settled on the ground. Every kind of animal and reptile and bird you could think of was on it. Then a voice came: “Go to it, Peter—kill and eat.”
14 Peter said, “Oh, no, Lord. I’ve never so much as tasted food that was not kosher.”
15 The voice came a second time: “If God says it’s okay, it’s okay.” [msg]
Jews do not accept the New Testament, so to them, pork is still not 'kosher'. But they have no religious regulations about blood transfusions. The wt gets it's regulations from Acts 15 where they have added their own twist. The Greek words translated as "to be abstaining from" "of blood" imho, means murder, to keep oneself free of 'blood guilt'. Keeping free of 'things strangled' is about bleeding out meat, so that's already been covered. And these edicts were to promote respect and peace between the Jewish converts and the Gentile converts. It has absolutely nothing to do with blood transfusions.
If the wt took seriously the no-blood ban, then even fractions wouldn't be allowed. Do they ever stop and think about how much blood it takes to extract those fractions? LOTS.
Ugh... dangerously stupid wt.
