sir82, I think you've said it better than me. So how would a JW explain this one? It must be a topic they've had to address at some point.

Can God see the future?
by Adolfius ini've been out a while, but i remember thinking about this as a teenager and being confused, (my mother told me i must be posessed by demons to think such things and so never offered me an explanation).
what do the jws say about it.
if jehovah can see into the future, he would've known what a mess he was going to make of creation so he would've decided against it before he even thought of it.. based on the theory that he went ahead and created everything anyway, that must mean he can't see into the future.. i also seem to remember that god doesn't interfere with man, because we have free will, so all our actions are down to us and in no way "steered" or "influenced" by god.. so how can he make predictions about the future, i.e.

If Jehovah can see into the future, he would've known what a mess he was going to make of creation so he would've decided against it before he even thought of it.
Based on the theory that he went ahead and created everything anyway, that must mean he can't see into the future.
I also seem to remember that god doesn't interfere with man, because we have free will, so all our actions are down to us and in no way "steered" or "influenced" by god.
So how can he make predictions about the future, i.e. the prophecies........specifically Judas betraying Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. If god can't see the future, yet he could say with certainty that one of Jesus most devoted followers would betray him, identify him with a kiss, and be paid exactly 30 pieces of silver, does this mean God interfered and made Judas do this against his will?
Is this why Judas went and committed suicide when he came round from being "possessed" by god, and realising what he had done, simply couldn't live with himself?
So does God see the future or does he force the hand of innocent people to do bad things?
I'm sure this has been discussed before, and I may have the whole story wrong, but it was something I never quite got as a teenager.
Anyone offer me an explanation? Especially how the JWs deal with this question.
Thanks

J.R. Brown's lie exposed on Youtube. (effective?)
by Wasanelder Once inok, let me know, could you hear ok?
was it on the mark?
is it a hit or a miss?.

That's unbelievable. Did he just say that at no time have they "claimed to be above others or have special information or pipeline to god"? Ha Ha
It seems to me as their numbers dwindle in the western world, they are desperately trying to appear more normal and mainstream in an attempt to attract more people. Of course once they've got them in they can adopt a whole different and more hardline view.
Great video

I can't talk to my parents.....
by Adolfius inas you can see from my posts i'm new here.
i was born and raised in the borg....dad was/is an elder.
i never liked the religion simply because it stopped me having fun like other "normal" kids.

Yeah, thanks for all the comments. It seems that everyone is saying patience is the best track to take, and I suppose I know that is true (just not in my nature).
Having been a staunch Witness at one time I know that there is no logical agument on earth that anyone could have raised with me that would have gotten me to critisise the religion let alone leave it.....
if there was something you didnt understand you just put your trust in Jehovah, who was all wise
That's exactly what I'm expecting. You must know my parents katiekitten :-)
To a degree my parents are obviously quite un-witness like, seeing as how they still talk to all the family despite everyone of them either having left the org or never been in it. Having listened to the advice here, I hope that by taking a slightly milder, softer appraoch than I was planning, that maybe I can atleast plant a seed of doubt, which will get them thinking or maaybe questioning the WTS teachings. Thanks for all offering your advice. Much appreciated.

YOUR TYPE OF INTELLIGENCE..............
by fifi40 inhoward gardner, a professor of education at harvard university, is renowned for laying out the theory of multiple intelligences (mi), which argues that the customary views of intelligence are too narrow.
whilst traditional iq tests measure verbal and mathematical skills, mi theory maintains that humans have multiple intelligences.. included in these are spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic (movement), interpersonal skills, intrapersonal and naturalist (understanding and classifying objects in nature).
so whilst some may not be to 'hot' on mathematics they may be great musicians or wonderful at understanding human beings.

Well I'm crap at maths and English, so I hope I'm a genius at some other area of the MI

You're dealing with more than a little cognitive dissonance of your own.
LOL. Maybe that didn't come out quite right! What I meant was it didn't make sense to me how a father could show such disregard or lack of love for his own daughter. The behaviour was just alien to me. I didn't understand it.......I still don't. If you could give me a good explanation as to how someone could think with that logic I'd appreciate it. I'm not trying to deny anything, but for me it seems inhuman to behave in such a way.....maybe it's perfectly normal

I actually agree with wasanelder. I'm just obviously not very good at articulating or explaining what I'm thinking very well.
I too hate the blanket expression, "support our troops". I'm not trying to suggest that sending parcels or providing better equipment is the support (both things are the responsibilty of the government). I think my point is, a lot of the service personnel are poorly educated, and easily manipulated in much the same way as the witnesses. These people join up for good and honorable reasons, believing they are going to be doing right and just things. When something like Iraq, or Vietnam comes along, most are just in the mindset where they believe they are doing something good. Suddenly the public turn on the politics or reasons for the war, which inevitably results in the soldiers being tarred with the same brush. A lot of these soldiers then don't know where to turn or what to think, (have I done something wrong? My government told me it was just!) which can be life threatening in more ways then one, both during and after the conflict.
Me and Wasanelder Once are probably going off the subject a bit here. For me it was just a poignient video.

But, your parents are not to blame, and have no conception of the anger you hold inside. They, like many of us, were drawn in by thoughts of a loving God making this earth a cleansed paradise. They want wickedness such as you observed to end, and for all people to be loving and peaceful.
Thanks for the comments Quandry. This is something that makes it all the harder. I know that the individuals within the org are generally nice and good people drawn in by the illusion of a loving society. If my parents were fully concious of how evil it really was and still went along with it, I would have no problem giving an ultimatum along the lines of "choose your family or the religion", and I'd happily walk away without a second thought if they chose the WTS. But they don't realise, and are not conciously practicing the evil policies of the borg.
The society does paint a very rosy picture of happy smiling "united" families, sat in a paradise, and it cleverly gives the impression that they are family orientated. But the more I see on this forum, the more I realise the family is not in the least bit important to them. This forum is filled with people who have had their family ripped to pieces. I think the post by mouthy http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/134305/1.ashx sums this up completely. Very sad.
I think this anti-family aproach may be my best hope as family is very important, especially to my mother. All my brothers and sisters have left the org, and none of the extended family are or ever were in, so my parents are the only ones left. Maybe showing how the society (run by old men that have never had families) are so against the family, to the point that you should disown a relative for being raped, is the way to convince them that this isn't quite as the happy images would suggest.
The congnitive dissonance link is great, thanks jgnat. It's amazing how easily a mind can be manipulated.
