  My conversation with my semi-dub doctor

  a doctor i visited is married to a dub from my old hall.

  he is one of those husbands who was never baptized but comes to some meetings and "talks the talk," or at least some of it and professes belief but never goes all in.. i acquired him as part of a surgical team and only found out he was on that team when i went in for surgery.

  he's been handling my follow up visits.

  dubs are told they can take fractions and accept organ transplants - some of which contain their original blood - but still are not allowed to donate blood(or, in his opinion, other organs) from which such fractions and transplants come.

  I could not and have not heard it ever put so plainly. Who could one ever refute such straight forward logic?? If I were to ever been asked such a question in service I would have absolutely fainted on the door step!

  My wife and I have still not filled out our new blood forms with all the fraction options on it. I am ready to make a new option on my card!

  so for anyone that has someone saying that is just "apostate" talk like my grandmother said to me..it will be harder to deny it seeing it straight from their site!

  You know guys, I have read a bit about this NGO thing and I have to admit that it doesnt really bother me. Dont get me wrong, I see a valid point being made here, but they are a NGO, and they did print positive things about the UN. This wasnt false, the UN does accomplish good and nobody claims otherwise, but regardless of that the WTS says not to put hope and faith in the UN as a permanent solution to mans problems. Is being listed on the DPI as an NGO really that big of a deal? So now they have access to information and greater ease with the UN in dealing with rights issues. JW's stay out of politics but still obey laws and pay taxes, we still use government programs for assistance that we pay into. Does that mean one is meddling in politics?

  My concern is only how it was handled after the fact. The WTS should have just come out and stated what they did and why. Then nobody would have cared at all.

  My thoughts anyway...............but who am I?

  it is not uncommon at all for witnesses to attend non-witness family functions. While it is likely they wont attend B-Day and Holiday parties, non-holiday functions are fine, baby showers for example. My father was not a JW so I have attended numerous weddings and funerals in Catholic Churches over my years. This is not worship, rather, a respectable means of closure. JW's would simply not participate in any ceremonial arrangements or prayers.

  Some JW's are more strict regarding this than others, this is their decision. While the WT has never come right out and said you cant associate with "worldly" family there is definitely strong implications toward associating as little as possible.

  As far as what happened in the documentary I am sure those things did happen, but I was raised a JW and have never known of anything like that personally. Most Elders are nice people, the odd one gets carried away a bit. The R&F usually know who those ones are and avoid them.

  I can also asure you they are indeed going "door-to-door"

  seems to me this is whipping up into a paranoia bigger than the 1980s apostate scare, bigger than they've ever seen before.

  i have to take exception to this, i have never heard an elder claimed that god / jehovah spoke through them. Some are more stoic and ascetic than others, but that is hardly the same. As for Jonestown, never. The GB still has to present scriptural reasoning for any claim it makes, while this may be spun to accomplish a purpose, "jonestown" could never happen with the JW's, why would they need to? Jehovah will protect them through the great tribulation, they cant be protected and survive if they all drink the kool-aid. ;)

  The Watchtower 1989 January 1 p. 12
  The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be concluded in our 20th century.

  The quotes from the Yearbook and the 1989 Watchtower in effect say the same thing. This is that the JW preaching work, with everyone who will survive Armageddon having become a JW, will be completed in the 20th century. And every JW knows that the end of the preaching work coincides with the eruption of “the great tribulation” and “Armageddon”.

  The 1989 Watchtower quote is from the single-issue printing of The Watchtower. In the bound volume reprints the quote was changed to:

  My CD ROM say "in our day", I would be interested to see a scan of the original. What is the cover of the mag? My grandpa has originals going back for decades. I found books back to russell and early rutherford, original prints. Even outling the confident date of 1925 and the return of the prophets of old. I may be able to find this WT.

  ah I see, I havent heard anyone say "weeks" or "months" but there is definitely strong focus lately on the times that we are in. There is a brother that gave a talk and "put his notes aside" to opine about how the GB feels about the how close to the end we are. My last Circuit assembly the DO even quoted him, an audio clip was sent to my by a friend and I heard the talk myself. The brother that sent it to me even realizes that we cant read into this but to me this is all very reminiscent of what I have heard about 1975. The WS says that they never said 1975 would be Armageddon but countless brothers gave talks strongly suggesting it or even outright stating it would be the end, then the R&F were told that they read into things.

  If we arent to read into these things then why was it even said? I am told that I can be blood guilty for stumbling my brother if I sin against them or sin and stumble them, what about those that gave talks about 1975? Are they blood guilty for the 100,000 per year for 5 years that left from 76-80? Are the GB and the writing committee blood guilty? Didnt their words stumble their brothers?

  guys, I am still a JW and I have no idea what your talking about. June 13? I realize my meeting attendance and attention level isnt exactly what I'd call "stellar" lately but I think I would have at least picked up on this. All I know is that as of 2008 there will be 2 different watchtower mags, one for service and one for WT studies. The reasoning behind this should be obvious to any objective observer. B

  As for June 12/13, I have no idea where you got this from and I couldnt find other threads going into any detail.................

  Does eating a rare steak = eating blood?

  i always wondered about this when i was still a jw.

  i just assumed that it was improper for a jw to eat any meat that wasn't thoroughly cooked, especially steak.

  i though everyone could see that the red juice contained blood, which, if eaten, amounted to a violation of the prohibition against eating blood.

  still_in74 - Welcome. I only began posting two days ago, so I'm a newcomer myself. I was trying to convey the evolution of my views on the blood ban throughout my time in the org. Right after baptism, I was very green on things and equated red juice with blood. Of course, now I realize that what matters isn't how the meat is cooked, but how it's bled. But this realization led to some tough questions. If blood was still in the steak we were eating, why are we such sticklers about introducing blood into our bodies if we need a blood transfusion to save our life? Certainly Jehovah would know that there was still blood in the beef we ate, so do we really think he'd be okay with such a legalistic rule on blood transfusions. If Jehovah insisted on his "people" to abstain completely from blood he would have surely banned eating all type of meat in the first place. These were the kinds of questions that eventually led me to leave the org. Stick around. Read some of the discussions on here, both old and new. They've helped me put some things in perspective. I'm certain you and I are going through some of the same feelings and that we're asking similar questions. I look forward to hearing more from you

  thanks Never, I must admit the change in view regarding blood fractions really started a ball rolling for me. I just couldnt believe this was permissable. I had towed the line for so long and this is a BIG deal. The further I go to answer questions the more I have. My biggest fear is my marriage, I love my wife so much and I know leaving would break her heart. I am so sick over this that I am literally sick, for months now I have stomach problems and I am certain its the stess of seeing everything I have ever believed go up in smoke. I feel myself sinking into depression over this. I have no idea what to do. I cant sleep, I cant focus at work, I'm falling apart............

  Ok so I'm new here. Here's my bit... I just ordered C of C the other day after months of agonizing research and now I am surfing around this forum for something.... anything! and I came across this. Being "still in" I can tell you that its not how you cook it that matters, its how you "bleed" it that is the issue. Animals were not to be strangled, but bled properly. Jews had detailed instruction as to how to bleed and clean meat. The simple fact is there is no way to eliminate "all" blood from meat (and yes, I remember the ol' 'meat juice' thing too"), and I think its safe to presume that God knows this fact. As long as the animal was bled properly God's commandment was followed. That is the issue.
