OMG, i did i forget Oingo Boingo, I think I saw them about 7 or 8 times. And David Bowie, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Fixx, The Alarm, Mojo Nixon, Morrissey, Depeche Mode, Midnight Oil, Robyn Hitchcock, Sugarcubes (I met Bjork then), OMD (actually I didn't like them until I saw them live and they blew me away opening for Depeche Mode.), Devo, PIL, REM, The Mighty Lemon Drops, Wire, Duran Duran, Faith No More (when chuck mosley was lead singer), The Posies, Sting, Lone Justice, Wham, Greg Kihn Band, Stray Cats and The Pretenders.
those are the bands i remember seeing in the 80's and my brain was jarred reading the list....i didn't include bands who i've seen in the 90's or 00's, even though they're on the KROQ list.

some great bands i saw in the 80's, especially late 80's when i finally turned 18 and rebelled. :)
The Cure, New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, Peter Murphy, Love and Rockets, The Replacements, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Social Distortion, Gene Loves Jezebel, General Public, The Untouchables, Fishbone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cult. I think that was all stuff played on the Quake even though some could be classified as goth or punk.
I kick myself for not seeing The Lords of the New Church before Stiv died.
I recently saw The Church. I blew them off as a one hit wonder, but they've been digging deep and continuing to record and tour and my respect is way up for them since researching an article and seeing their live show.

Snooty Jws
by Blindbutnowisee inwhy do jws act as if their poop don't stink.
they walk about as if they are better than the rest of mankind.
if only they would take the veil from over their eyes..

Bad memory
by Mrs Smith inwhen i was in my teen years i spoke to an ms and his wife about the physical abuse i had to endure from my father.
while they acted very concerned nothing was done about it.
no one ever spoke to me about it again and my father was never spoken to either.

my uncle and a friend killed themselves and i told the elders the reason i missed a few meetings was because i was grieving over that.
no response from that at all....decided to miss more meetings, what the hell.
i went to see a band call Thrill Kill Kult and they were scheduling a meeting with me within a day of the concert. i thought they were coming by to make sure i was ok about my grieving. i brought it up, but they were quick to get down to business on the 'real' issue. why i would see a band who named themselves 'thrill kill kult'.
one of the many, many, many times that were essentially signs from heaven to get the hell out of the borg and anything to do with them.

I've been studying with JW's for a few months..
by MichaelM ini've been studying with the jw's for a few months and i've attended a few meetings but things are feeling somewhat strange...i don't quite get the jist of things but i feel that i'm learning more of what the watchtower teachers and less of what the bible actually says.. i never open my bible.. i'm always reading the watchtower pamphlets.
i really like the people i've met in the congregation and the guy thats been doing the studies with me has been an awesome friend.. .
but i'm just having some issues.. i mean.. they translated their own bible to suit their own doctrines it seems.

"Sorry bout' that, no they have changed that view also, they don't believe everyone that is a JW will die at arma....so kind of them isn't it."
lol, i think you meant to say 'isn't a jw', now THAT would definitely be new information.
what's the standard now? is it a 'we're not sure, only god knows, but better to be safe than sorry' kind of thing?
thanks.

some great replies here. a couple of points to consider. once you're in, you're in. if you have disagreements, 'sin' (which includes some really minimal offenses), decide it's not for you, everyone giving you love right now will shun you in an instant if the elders decide to df you. not the biggest deal if you've only invested a little time in the wtbts, but buying into the dogma of not hanging out with 'worldly' people, would cut off contact w/ all your old friends....then if you're in for a while, you've lost all moral support if things go bad. and i'm sure you've heard of 'crisis of conscious' by raymond franz who was a governing body member. definitely read that, and don't tell anyone w/in the org. that you're reading it, they're not down with 'researching' unless it's with their own publications. it takes years to realize the whole picture...elders are secretive and their meetings are filled with power wrangling and there's a lot of bs that happens behind the scenes that most wits don't see or don't chose to see. franz's book gives an excellent look into the org. and how blatant the leadership is about protecting the organization over the individual....going directly against jesus' counsel and illustration of the looking after the individual, sheperd and lamb illustration. also, the extra rules imposed get really nitty, gritty and unchristian. jws think that everyone is going to die at armageddon unless they're a jw. god will kill everyone. it's a form a racism, not apparent until you're in for a while....and then it's so common-speak it won't feel like racism.

[all i wanted was a pepsi and they wouldn't give it to me. just one pepsi
suicidal tendencies. Prime Cuts 1997 Institutionalized ???
google is my friend.]
google may be your friend, but she's steering you slightly wrong. that must be a best of release by them, but the original came out in 1984 on their self titled debut release.
oh screw my elitism, big hug for getting the answer right.
..oh, i wish i still had that vinyl...i had to give it to my friend to keep b/c my parents would never let me have a band in the house like that and he ended up moving....i remember hiding it behind my dresser.
it's funny b/c to watch the video now, it's so dated, but we worshiped those guys in the 80's. i think the actress who plays his mom in the video is the principal from rock'n roll high school.

oh, if you watch the metallica documentary, 'some kind of monster', they replace their old bass player with the bass player from suicidal....that dude kicks ass...great documentary as well.

I went to your churches
I went to your institutional learning facilities
so obviously I'm crazy"

i heard, the more prominent the blood card, the smaller the penis. that's what i heard, i haven't done any field checks and would rather not do field checks.
now, the blood card placement versus vagina size, yeah, i might do a study on that.

Killing time during meeting...
by brunnhilde ini used to balance my checkbook sometimes.
another favorite was unsticking the pages of a new bible or folding back the dogears of an old one.

before i went to europe and was learning italian and semi fluent in bad-grammar french, i'd translate the talks in my head in one of the languages.
then, by the time i went to italy, i actually understood 75% of the talks at the hall.
that's when i thought about joining a different language congregation b/c i was so sick of hearing the shame shite over and over again, i thought it would at least be nice to learn another language and make the meetings like free language classes.
