he looks better than i do after a transatlantic flight and i'm about 50 years younger, but i'm usually all pilled up and drunk.
thanks for posting this, i want to shake his hand and kiss his cheek one day for helping me untangle the web of deceit in my belief system.

If we really lived by the rules of the bible
by kwr inhttp://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/books/603143,jacobs101407.article.
within the first months of trying to live by the rules of the bible, a.j.
jacobs started carrying around a portable seat so as not to sit after unclean women (leviticus 15:20).

you know, this is what makes this forum so great, that we can come together and bust up an uninformed journalist who was just trying to make his word count quota for the week...and he didn't realize he was treading on thin ice doing a fluff piece on a kingdom hall build.
seriously, the comments posted rule...and i added my 2 cents as well.
hopefully it'll save someone from being converted or make a current jw victim step out of their headspace and investigate the wtbts further.
bravo!

Purple triangle monopoly
by 5go inthis is one i would love to see busted.. jw were not the only ones to get a purple triangle in the nazi camps.
i bet they were not even the majority of the ones to receive them.. .
the purple triangle was a nazi concentration camp badge used by the nazis to identify several un-orthodox religious groups known as "bibelforscher".

and, to be fair, jehovah's witnesses were in concentration camps and did suffer needlessly along with other groups...the problem is the wtbts and their lovely information spins, conveniently forgetting they were in support of anti-semitism themselves, the mid-30's "oops".
i feel bad for everyone that had to go through that, but the wtbts hasn't been discreet about using it as a promotional tool, and scare tactic that this will happen again any second when the great trib comes, so everyone needs to stay close to the borg.
my jewish friends have told me that when they were young they were shielded from knowing too much about it until they were age appropo to know the horrific things that happened, yet, the congregations would discuss experiences in explicit detail even when kids were in the kingdom halls. i remember being very smart at 5 and 6 years old and scared to death of the imminent torture that was going to come at any moment......30 years ago.....a five year old kid scared he was going to prison.....if parents were found out to be filling their kids heads with such horror, today the kids would probably be taken away..
"daddy tells me i'm going to be tarred and feathered"...that would go over real well with a social worker or cop.

Does Gilead have any accreditation?
by journey-on inwhen a witness talks about someone who has "graduated" from gilead, they always make it sound like such an accomplishment as if they graduated from harvard or somethin...lol.
i know it's called the watchtower bible school of gilead and is located at the watchtower educational center in patterson, ny (sounds impressive, uh?)..
it used to be known as the watchtower bible college of gilead in south lansing, ny.. does this school have any accreditation that you know of or is it just glorified classroom training for jw "missionaries"?
-
monophonic
they are not accredited by WASC, i used to work there, which means even if they offered official B.A.'s, they couldn't be transferred to other schools to pursue a masters or Ph.D.
it's as accredited as a personal writer's workshop in someone's home....or as trying to get accredited for having a personal bible study.
there was some "school" that applied "expierence" as pioneers and took the hours to make them work hours towards a bachelor's degree, but they were completely unaccredited as well and it's easier just to print out a fake document b/c if a degree is required for a job, nothing the wtbts or anyone who rides on their coattails with the ...too good to be true... degree just for your jw experience, is worth anything more than a load of crapola to most recruiting corporations.

GB on Airplanes
by oneairhead inhave you ever heard of anyone running into the gb on an airliner?
i have not and so that only leads me to believe that they charter jets to move them around the world.
how do they travel?.
-
monophonic
GB flying first class.
those of you who are janitors and jws and were pressured not to go to college, give up some of your meager money to the wtbts b/c the GB needs hot flight attendants to feed them first class meals and receive champagne.
can we just have access to the whole GB in one room and play Slayer and black metal for them for two hours at full blast and see who gets heart attacks?

two weeks notice
by purplesofa ini have three days left of my two week notice working my job.
in march, i will have been there five years.
i took this job, after many years of thinking the end would come soon, keeping jobs that had no future or retirement..........i thought i would retire from this job.. i put my two weeks notice in without having another job lined up.

congrads purplesofa.
i realized years ago the only way i could make a living was by doing something that i love...writing. and it's been a joke that i've had to work about 60 hours a week, up until recently, to make part time wages.
i've worked in legal, tech, accounting and many jobs where i advanced quickly and then the politics ensued......and i realized that managers, middle management (the worst human scum on the planet), like their workers to be properly dumb. in between trying to get my freelance career up to speed i've had to do some temp work, and the minute i was properly dumb and doing a project in two months that would take me two days, i had no hassle. when i completed my projects too fast the rest of the office would freak out....so, i started working on my novel and giving 'feedback' to my managers, 'woe, rough project, need a few more weeks' and they'd practically wet their pants at how productive (unproductive) i was.
just like i can't buy into the wtbts way of thinking, i can't buy into the corporate way of thinking, they're either working you to death, or scared if you're smarter than someone on a higher pay scale....thus why freelancing has worked for me, b/c i can dump clients/editors who have their heads up their asses and cultivate relationships with people who dig my talent.
so, bravo. listen to your heart. (the heart is treacherous and deceitful as the wtbts would say)....thank god we're not under that iron fist anymore.
you've made a brave move. i'm proud of you. best of luck in the next chapter of your life.
