then he went on and on about how he would never, ever hit a woman, but he'd shake her until her weave fell out of her hair.

see, i haven't seen it in years.....so that's my horrid memory interpretation.

When Elders go too Far...

this is just something that really peed me off regarding the elders, is how low they are sinking to get gossip and stuff now, i was in contact with a well trusted friend of mine who used to attend meetings up until 2 years ago, his wife is still in the jw org, he was having a joke around on some text messages with me regarding my man saying "try before you buy" and so on, which i found amusing....lets just say his wife didnt...she snooped on his phone, wrote out the texts he had sent me and gave the transcript to the elders, and now he has to go before a judicial commitee.

how wrong is that, for a start its an invasion of privacy!

the wife is whacked and bringing in the elders on this idiotic situation, completely pathetic.

IF it was a real problem, these texts, she should've tried to work it out with her hubby herself.

it could be a cultural difference, some regions of the USA, believe it or not, are pretty open discussing sex, and the USA is looked upon as absurd for it's prude ways. I'm married and this is stuff my wife talks about with guys and girls and i talk about with guys and girls....the try before you buy innuendos, for anyone to be offended by that and think that the hubby is at fault and deserves the blatant disregard for the wife trying to work it out with him if she's uncomfortable instead of running to the elders....that's pathetic.

BTW, love the topic title, it sounds like the makings of a tv show.

i am....i bet everyone here has every stamp except the one they need to win.

haven't eaten mcdonald's in over 15 years....any fast food in about 7 years....a read of 'fast food nation' will show the bs of the fast food industry....it has a lot of similarities to the misinformation of the wtbts.

the fast food industry is pretty horrid...unfortunately there aren't many choices outside of it in rural and some suburban areas.

i used to love taco bell, but seriously, give 'fast food nation' a read, i haven't touched a taco bell in seven years and these corporations are killing just about as many people as smoking...but all politics is too tied into the funding of these organizations, so they're untouchable, but litigious idiots can sue for second hand smoke and jump all over that while their kids are being pounded with fast food marketing and all my friends with kids can only get them to shut the hell up if they go buy their happy meals with toys and those dancing clowns.

drive thru since idling car engines don't get the same media bs hype as second hand smoke.

this always intrigued me b/c the only script the JC ever uses to DF people for smoking should also be applied to running gas cars, using hair spray, etc. that corinthians one.

at one JC, when my fade finally dawned on me that i needed to get the hell out of there quick, they said since i smoked a few times, it could be looked upon as murder b/c of second hand smoke. all i could think of was their SUVs revvin' up in the parking lot.

no disrespect to the original poster who i don't feel has any ill intentions, but i was just reminded of the hypocrisy and twisting of scripture and culture b/c if it effects the global economy and reliance on oil too much, just sweep it under the rug...like most witness doctrines.

Quit your job and go sell ice cream

did anyone see the information on a recent watchtower study article (w-07 0/01, p. 30, 16) in which a witness who quitted his job and started selling ice cream on the streets in order to have more time to preach, is presented as a good example?

i found it extremely offensive and asked myself: are they really serious or is this joke?

but the worst part is that no one else in the hall seemed to find it offensive, with the exception of a ministerial servant who privately told me it was an act of disrespect on the part of the society.

i love the information they leave out....what country in the 'orient'? aren't we calling it asia now?

he could've been doing tech support in a country that pays very little for educated workers....a technician in japan compared to a technician in beijing or elsewhere are completely different things.

so pathetic. may as well give an experience of a man in the americas who quit his full time job because there was more money in cock-fighting and now he pioneers.

note to the over sensitive, when i say cock-fighting i'm referring to the birds not the genitals.

Help needed: your experiences of the internet and JWism

i am hoping some of you will find a few moments of time to reply to this request for help.

i am researching the impact of the internet on people's journey out of jwism.

i invite everyone to write anything from a sentence to a couple of paragraphs (or more, if desired) relating how the internet has affected your exit.

the internet did nothing in affecting my decision for leaving. the horrid treatment of myself and others (when i was an 'a-ok' jw), finally clicked after i had been in about 8 congregations in my life and 5 of them were horrid, judgemental and didn't feel christian at all and three of them seemed like they were trying hard and weren't meddling every time someone made a fart at a meeting.

i left for good, faded out, with a feeling....not reading anything 'apostate' or on the internet. four years after fading out i read COC, then stepped up the research further on the internet.

so, it just took the congregations being themselves and treating people like dirt who deserved to be treated better....even when i was an MS i'd try to be friends with wits who the elders would ignore b/c they saw them as bad seeds and i couldn't understand why.....a older sister told me later that the only reason her son continued to come to meetings was because i didn't judge him and i was nice to him and didn't trip that he had long hair. i was 19 at the time and he was 15.

i really hope he didn't get sucked in b/c of me, but i thought i was doing the right thing at the time.

anyway, at 20 i faded, got sucked into a love study and lots of family trauma happened, so i was back 'in' at 22, then started fading again at 24.

unfortunately, the rank and file j-dub will say, there were apostates in bethel and i'm sure they've been removed and that jehovah has taken care of it.

Is agnostic different from athiest? How so?

i know the answer, because i am agnostic.

it is strange to me that people assume if you say you are agnostic that it means you don't believe in god.

from wiki.... agnostics claim either that it is not possible to have absolute or certain knowledge of the existence or nonexistence of god or gods; or, alternatively, that while individual certainty may be possible, they personally have no knowledge.

regarding being agnostic, i think that can be varied as well.

some agnostics i know are like 'f*&k it, i don't give a flying f---, can i bum a cigarette?' and others are searching for answers.

i think i fall in between, i'd like some answers, but so fed up with the 'we got the troof, hurrah' attitude i had to deal with for so many years, that not knowing is fine.
