i wonder, did they lighten up on work related dogma, like not letting people work in liquor stores if cigarettes and lotto tix are sold after the UN thing....or not lighten up, but just kind of stopped talking about it, or are they still extracting the straws for the eyes of active jws trying to earn a living?

The 2006 "updated" Rev Climax book still "denounces" the UN as the beast.
by booker-t ini was recently given a copy of the 2006 revelation climax book by a jw's pioneer woman that i see all the time in front of the bus stop.
we talked for a while and she just handed me a billion books and mags.
i brought up the un scandal to her and she right away went into defense mode.

Did you get the personalized JW items?
by reneeisorym inthe bibles rebound with a reasoning book in the end.
the special bookbags made by a jw for jws.
the magazine holders.

you just gave me a great idea to set up a 'binding' service for jw literature, then when the order comes in, at the back of the bible, switch out the reasoning book or whatever with crisis of conscious.
of course to do it legitimately, the service would have to be offered for free and the person doing the work would actually have to buy the COC books, but i smell some fun fun fun. :)

Have you self-published through Lulu.com?
by alias ini am working on a book project (non-jw) that will have both illustrations and text and i am interested in self-publishing.
i checked out lulu.com and it looks extremely easy to do it once the manuscript is ready to go.
have you used a pod like lulu?

hi alias,
glad to help.
btw, if you've done some decent humor writing, i suggest seeking an agent before self publishing. most people suck at humor, if you can nail it even 5% of the time, you'll have no problem getting published. keep that in mind. imo, lulu.com does not forward your career, i've seen that first hand, and it may even damage it....so try and get with the professionals first.
and when i say professional, my tongue is deep in my cheek since most are clueless, but they go to lunch meetings with the 'right' people on the authors' behalfs.

speaking of most jws glazing over this stuff....i remember being in the shit (jws) and going to every meeting and studying and going out in service and they set it up where you have no time to question anything, just read off of what's in the publications....it's like the last thing i really wanted to do was study further than necessary, then they throw a confusing explanation of the seventy weeks of years and how they've come to that conclusion and all i was worried about was getting the magazine count down as quickly as possible after the meeting to have at least 5 hours of sleep before going to work the next day.
yep, keep them busy, repeat the same information over and over and coddle them with love if they remain in the status quo. sounds orwellian to me. :)

Does your personality type affect your belief in the divine?
by Paralipomenon inrecently, i was reacquainted with a friend that i knew since i started grade school.
he grew up in the world wide church of god and i as a witness.
neither of us did christmas so often we would find ourselves in the library while the rest of the school did christmas activities.. .

1. Your Myers-Briggs type
INFJ
2. Your religious upbringing (if any)
Jehovah's Witness age 3 - 25/27
3. Your current views on God, religion, and spirituality
I believe in God and I'm pissed off at him for allowing the jw and all this other bullshit to happen....give us a sign that isn't vague and easily manipulated by those seeking power goddammit!
Religion is the opiate of the masses and is a crock and lies
Spirituality is important and thanks to whatever God has up his sleeve he has let spirituality go to complete shit. I want to set up a meeting with him to voice my discontent and understand why.....the 'universal sovereignty' theory hangs on a loose thread of borg propaganda.

"yes they just dropped 1935 in a recent WT, in the last few weeks.
Great to have the "truth" isn't it?
As Bob Dyaln said "All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie".
Pope"
what's 1935, my memory is hazy.

Quotes lawsuit
by John Doe indo you think the wtbts made a mistake in suing the quotes site owner?
i think doing such was a huge mistake on their part, and here's why:.
1) they were not able to bury the information.

i wish there was more of a public declaration against it, or news coverage, to get to those who are 'in' the borg to make them think about the possibility that they're under blatant information control.

Were You Surprised That Your JW "Friends" Dumped You After All These Years?

surprised and hurt...even though it was 'rumored' that i was inactive. dropped like that from supposed life long friends who went into elaborate stories of what i was doing....that i wasn't doing.
surprised and hurt that these so called christians and friends of over 20 years didn't call or get in touch to see if i was ok, just decided to slander me.
more proof jws are far from christianity....i thank them for the realization and understanding my misplaced loyalty.

another option is developing a small indie press as some sort of collective here since there seems to be enough writers and interest
it would take investment, some organization, but i think it would be beneficial in terms of credibility and publicity....and devoting all the attention to one book at a time.
there are people who can make more money self publishing, but money isn't the only issue...if it's less money from a large publisher, but they're selling 3000 of your books instead of 1000, there's 2000 more readers, which breeds more readers and sets up your next book....and there's always the publicity machine of doing a book tour, getting on talk shows, doing newspaper and magazine interviews, etc.
and you're not paying out of pocket for the expense of editors, printing, etc.
and remember, it's all about the rewrite and editing....you may end up rewriting your work 30 times....you may end up rewriting your work until you want to vomit b/c you've read and reread the damn piece so many times....it's all a part of what most authors have to go through.
i have experience as a small press and writing and getting published, so if the small press collective option mentioned above is of interest to anyone i'd be happy to help as an advisor.

Religions similar to JWs.
by LtCmd.Lore indoes anyone know of any religions that are very similar to jehovahs witnesses?.
it tends to come up in discussions with them a lot, they like to think that they are the only ones that don't believe in hell, the trinity, that jesus died on a stake, that they won't go to heaven, or stuff like that.
i could probaby just prove them wrong, but that would take forever and it would be a lot easier to just say: "you're not as unique as you think...".

Jws just KNEW no one else had any spiritual enlighten but them. Seems Armstrong knew a few things. His son ran the church into the ground and they officially apologized for their beliefs and now are pretty mainstream, except for a few spin offs."
was that the church that apologized for getting 1914 wrong? i didn't know they were still around and had spin off groups. i'll check wikipedia for more info, but would love any other info you have on the church.
just hearing that they apologized felt so refreshing, nothing the governing body would ever do....they always send the 'new light' as a 'get your act together' type message while never accepting responsibility for their 'old light'.
