A believer is certain that uncertainty is to be avoided at all costs. An unbeliever is uncertain that certainty is to be sought at all costs.
Then, is it possible religious corporations are self-appointed, cosmic cost accountants?

you have just won 100,000,000 in the lottery!
what would you do next?
Once youve learned to stop contributing time and personal after tax income towards sterile corporate real estate acquisitions and publications that tout a very questionable promise of a future, cheesy paradise on earth, and pocket what's used to make the WTS rich ... it sure feels like winning a lottery.
this is a true story.
i do not bullshit about stuff like this.. everybody knows i'm agnostic, and most of you know that i lump wicca right in there with all the other religious beliefs as being just one more crock of lies, and have pissed off sunchild and sirona and a few others with my observations about wicca.
well, as i continue on my path of mellowship, i've mellowed toward wicca as well.
I saw some "magick wands" for sale ... and they looked cheesy and amateurish, and I thought to myself that, strictly from a craftsmanship standpoint, I could do much better.
That reminds me, to illustrate the point I believe there may be an organization that's been producing cheesy but lucrative disposable "magick wands" that only last a couple of weeks before you have to get new ones, and go by the name of Watchtower and Awake!
The best part is, for that they qualify for a full tax exemption.
You just might be on to something here, COMF!
what do you get if you cross a jehovah's witness with an agnostic?
someone who calls at your door, but doesn't really know why.
what do you get when you cross a jw with a hells angel?.
Jehovah Witness Jokes
Yes...I certainly was.
dear brothers:
as you have admitted, the watch tower bible & tract society did join the united nations as a non government organization in 1992 ending in 2001, and according to the following watch tower this means that by their own actions they disassociated them selves from jehovahs organization which means that we must treat them like disfellowshiped ones.
in other words they are no longer jehovahs witnesses or have any right to that name.
Flop,
I perceive that you have no spine.
Friday, I cautiously understand how you think my spine would have anything to do with the leaders of that fine cult of yours (and once mine) attempting to profit from tugging the apron strings of association with the UN, an organization your "wise guys" have vehemently denounced via almost every publication up until their partnership.
However, for an example of relevant anatomy as an analogy of your perceptions, perhaps I could respectfully suggest a ring like muscle that normally maintains constriction of a body passage or orifice and that relaxes as required by normal physiological functioning which was mistakenly installed near your neck during baptism , cutting oxygen flow to your brain.

Right again, Friday! I meant ... "justifiable REASON". Yeah ... that's the ticket.

The truth is that they simply made strategic use of the United Nations in order to further the good news of God's Kingdom throughout the earth.
Great! " The truth is... " I'll use a similar excuse at the next judicial hearing.

the teachings and practices of the society have changed greatly under five respective leaders.russell, (lets not forget barbour,he was the one who published the 1914 date in july 1877,in the book "three worlds, page 83.
" it has been a central teaching of the wt.society since then.
)rutherford, knorr, fred w.franz and now henschel.most wt.publications over 10 yrs.old are outdated and are no longer used.the beliefs that "prove"they are the only true religion are different from their beliefs of fifty yrs.ago.however,the truth will not and cannot change.do you think we can expect the dates 1914 and 1935 to change because of running out of time?i realize that in spite of the changes, they expect members to be in complete agreement with their teachings and to be in complete obedience to the organization.blueblades.
I wonder if anyone in Brooklyn HQ was ever smacked his head and exclaimed, "DOH!" upon realizing how much better off the WTS would have been if it had the sense to avoid their perpetuallly failing "just around the corner" eschatology.
Given the stunning influx of long-term, volume purchasers of low-cost, high revenue return Watchtower publications during a critical period needed to achieve greater financial and psychological control, I can imagine the only head banging at headquarters is how to come up with another financially successful marketing scheme, with the fortuitous timing and financial success 1914 had.
this is my first post.
please forgive its length, its bad timing, its preachiness, its prejudices, etc.
it's just one more opinion that i feel obligated to add.
"...I remember what seemed to be his favorite subjects: justice, righteousness, the spirit of the law over the letter of the law, the principle of true religion summed up in "looking after the orphan and the widow in their tribulation."
If the above truly is representative of Rays attitude, its obviously at odds with the Watchtower Corporations unabashed pursuit of profit in the name of Bible education.
Its no wonder that anyone with a similarly vocal and influential persona as Ray Franz would be considered a financial liability and asked, in no uncertain terms, to take their independantly non-quantifiable philanthropy and leave the employ of the New York branch of the Bank of Jehovah.

reasoning from the scriptures says on pp95-97 that months consist of 30 days.. years therefore would be 360 days long.. i have calcaluted(sic)that for every year in the `western'calender such a 360 day calender would fall 4/5 days depending on whether it was a leapyear or not.
now over a period of 2520 years,a 360 day calender would be 9,940 days behind a 364/5 day calender(25 years!
) therefore 2520 years according to book of daniel would fall in 1889!.
I would suspect relatively recent manipulations coupled with limited attention given this subject by the Writing Dept has been sufficient to have gotten loyal Jehovahs Witnesses to the point where the mention of any perceived notion that the Watchtower Corporation once attached significant meaning to 1914 is simply an apostate rant.
