I would not be surprised if the movie was inspired based on the JW relifion, or any cult really...
All the parallels are there...if you watch it closely....
i just watched m. night shyamalan's the village, http://imdb.com/title/tt0368447/.
i've seen it mentioned here before that this movie reminds people of the jehovah's witnesses.
what things are similar?.

for those who don't know i've been 'inactive' for around one year.
i stopped attending meetings late last year.
all during this time i was working on my wife (known on this board as amber rose), helping her see the problems with the watchtower.
Drew,
What a great read! I am an optimist, and I believe that the elder will not turn you in, I think you gave him the little push that he needed to confirm the doubts already in his mind.....all he needed was confirmation that he wasn't the only one with doubts! I'm hopeful that your conversation hit home. If you do ever get told to attend a JC, I doubt that it be because of this elder ratting you out...maybe I am naive, but I believe in the goodness of individuals....
in my decades of the "truth" i have heard scriptures twisted in an olympic manner to apply to local needs.
there were so many on various sexual activities that i tempted to throw money on the platform!.
i even heard from a reliable brother of a local needs on farting.
thanks GGBG and Juni! my pleasure in making ppl laff!

Question:
Just exactly how does one stop oneself from farting when they have to?? Did the elder or MS admonish (as they love that word so much) the friends to tighten up their sphincters so as to not let any gas escape? Or to try and hold in the farts till they get outside?
''Friends, it has come to our attention that some if us have a problem with um, err, farting. Since this is Jehovah's house, we must keep it smelling like a house that Jehovah would want to sit in, so therefore, we ask you to hold in your farts until you get outside....you may use the Song as the most appropriate time to do so during the meeting...leaving during the talks would be considered being spiritually weak...but if you absolutely HAVE to pass gas, the elder body gives you permission to take your squeezed shut sphincter outside during the progress of the meeting to relieve the pressure and the smell.''
many here say that they wouldn't want to live in a world dominated by jw's.
i understand.. i know that i wasn't always happy under their rules and way of living.
i don't like going to meetings, especially 5 a week.
Question....
According to JW dogma and Paradise theories, we get 1000 years to get perfect, right? during this time, we will still make mistakes or will we be less apt to make them....
What if we want to do something that is wrong? what if we do it? does god strike us down dead? or is that only after the 1000 years have past, and satan is let loose to tempt us again, (and then he gets destroyed), and we all attain perfection then....so if we sin, then we get struck dead the second we do something sinful, correct?
hmmmm..to answer honestly, I would say, yes I rather live in a ''paradise'' than be dead... but I would keep a supply of sleeping pills and alcohol handy, just incase ;-)
when i was a teen, i aspired to be an elder.
from my pre-teens until i was 18, i was in every circuit assembly and district convention----having either ministry school talks or parts or experiences.
at 20, i conducted a bookstudy in the afternoon, also regular pioneered, was the theocratic ministry school overseer in the 2nd school and regularly taught the main school.
It must of felt like a tug of war trying to keep people in, and kicking people out at the same time....I can only imagine what that kind of stress must of felt like. and yes, that kind of power does go to young men's heads....seen that time and again.
anyone from the u.s. ever hear california referred to as "cali-pornea"?
whether you're from cali or not, was it your impression that california jws had a reputation as being more "worldly" than dubs from other states?
open mind
That's because they are jealous that the brothers and sisters in Cali get to have fun and they dont! hahaaha
i was just talking to a friend of mine who is the talk coordinator at his hall.
he was telling me that he cant get brothers to come and give talks at his hall.
i remember when i was giving talks that was all the rage.
''Maybe the Watchtower will send each congregation taped TALKS so they can all be in unity with one another and then the local elders can concentrate on more important things like investigating allegations of wrongdoing.''
I can see them reading this and a lightbulb going off - Wouldn't it be funny if they implemented this idea? They would save so much time! More time to do drive by's and investigations for sure - like the pharisees that they are.
i'm studying with a jehovah's witness and it makes quite a bit of sense but i've been reading many topics on here and it seems that i can find every christian denomination and every religion except jehovahs witnesses.
do any jw's actually browse here?
maybe i'm just getting unlucky and picking the wrong topics where everyones discussing about how they used to be jw's.
Thank you Jeff!
(When I pass my curser over the icons of ''bold'' ''underline'' ''cut'', copy'' ,''paste'' ,''quote'', etc, they dissapear...maybe it's because I am using a different browser than IE)
Thank you for making the links clickable

Michael, Welcome! Do your homework! I was in this religion for 30 years. I am not Disfellowshipped or Disassociated. I had to leave or have a nervous breakdown because the stress of never feeling like I could measure up...and the NAGGING DOUBTS that became too loud for me to ignore. (I lost formating abilities so I had to switch to non HTML...sorry if my links are not clickable. simply copy-paste them into your browser address field.) IF you want to go into this religion, you need the FACTS about what they teach and believe...not just the watered down, sugary sweet version. You will thank us later, I promise. http://www.jwfiles.com/outline.htm http://www.silentlambs.org/ http://www.freeminds.org/ -eclipse
