13happy memories of my father
by refiners fire insomething that happened with an ex dub friend of mine prompted this post.he finally wrote a letter to his elder father telling him how he really felt.i read the assorted corespondences.. in the letter to his father my friend mentioned that he could only remember 1 instance where father and son spent quality time together.. they spent an afternoon (1 afternoon)flying a kite down at the park.. that was the only pleasure incident he could remember with his dad.. i wept and wept reading that.
for it reminded me of my own dad.. i could barely remember any pleasure incidents either.. my father and i went on 3 camping trips, when i was a teenager.. we did that together.
all the rest of my memories were of him compelling me to do things i didnt want to do.. this causes me to wonder if this is a phenomena unique to the dubs.. no memory of quality time spent with your dad.

i agree with your post a hundred percent. they are tired but yet they go on. trying to measure up to a standard so high its impossible to reach.

Hmm. i read your reply and its funny but i think the total opposite is true in my case. my fam also has that unnatural ability to cut off a family member without blinking an eye. thats just the way it is if you leave the truth. but i honestly dont think it has anything to do with wanting to shame us back into the truth. i dont think they do it out of love at all. in my case its a case of just blindly following the orgs instruction on the matter. it may not be 'technically' spelled out as a command from the org. but their literature on how to treat da'd and df'd family is pretty clear what their point of view is. when there is an issue like there where the org doesnt 'technically' require something but just suggests and leaves it up to the person, most of the Jw's i know including my fam want to do it the way the org suggests. to them the orgs suggestions are to be followed almost as closely as the orgs commands. yes you can go against it but to say 'well the org does not say we HAVE to do such and such..' would get you attention from the other jw's. and maybe even a few would stop associating with you as much.
bottom line, (imho) they do it because the org 'suggests' to and thats as good a reason as these zombies need.

it wouldnt matter much if it was someone i knew or not. after entertaining the possibility that i have been lied to all these years i cant even begin to believe something just because someone (ANYone) says its true. i would have to verify the references that are used, and/or research it somehow. there is obviously no way to know a hundred percent but if i think there is a pretty good possibility that its true thats enough for me to make an educated decision. if there is no way to verify each detail i would look at the source and research what their possible motives could be for exposing something. what do they gain from lying or lose from lying? what do they gain or lose from telling the truth? then i would have to make an educated decision based on them. but if there are no names, places, no references, or details...just a blank statement such as these well there is just as good a chance that its just made up by someone with an axe to grind as there is that its truth. i guess in those cases i just have to leave that alone and neither believe or not believe it. like this story.

actually we dont speak but even if we had a good relationship he would never discuss anything that went on in an elders meeting. i did some snooping when he went to the meeting today to see if i could find his notes from the meeting but couldnt find anything except a piece of paper with the names and birthdates of all his children. i guess if anyone asks he has to at least know our full names and when we where born

my dad just came back from the elders meeting yesterday also. i have a question though. how does a jw who happens to come here looking for answers know that this is factual and came from an actual elder in attendance and was not just made up? there is nothing in the article to autenticate it and i've found that true of a lot of the material i have been reading. they are just statements on a page which people can either believe or not. just like the wts wants people to just believe statements in the literature and take them as facts without any proof. arent we doing the same thing here if we believe every thing like this elder post?

considering jw's make up such a small part of the worlds population to what extent do our beefs with the organisation matter to anyone unconnected?.
should our opinions of witness beliefs concern people more than witness themselves .should everyone have the right to make up there own mind and chose to be witnesses without us interfereing?.

have you ever watched Dateline NBC? i used to watch it a lot. i've seen stories done on there that dont come close to comparing to some of our lives but yet a national news show felt they warrented national publicity. yes it matters and YES the world should be interested.

i just wanted to say, I HATE YOUR DAUGHTERS FATHER. i really do. talk about hypocrisy. i mean he is supposedly in the org based on love. it is so unnatural for any human not to love their child. but yet he and my own father seem to have no problem completely turning their back on their own flesh and blood. its sick. how can you bring a child into the world and then not feel the natural bond that compells you to do anything to make sure they are happy and healthy.
