  hello fellow screen junkies,.

  i have had a number of messages in recent days concerned about my posting style having changes in recent weeks.

  as you may note i have become a little more combative in my replies of late and have imbued a new sense of tenacity when dealing with certain issues.

  You say that chanting in unison and wearing the correct tribal colthes is no subsitute for reasoned argument, and I agree. However, feeling like you belong is a normal part of our makeup. Seeing as we've all spent most of our lives being seperate from the world, and the rest of it not quite fitting in, this forum has been a great way of "wearing tribal clothes".

  My point is that wearing a uniform of any sort can and does lead to prejudicial viewpoints, especially when discussing matters outside the uniform of your own particular peer group. Prejudice is never a safe option.

  What one must be careful of is "herd" thinking whether in the WTS or out of it. As a person just coming back to this board, objectively speaking, I see some herd thinking here in certain categories.

  there has always been a positive attitude about childbearing.

  families with many children have been praised and honored.

  a number of them have been on the SUB_CO list for years just waiting to get a permanent asssigment so they will refuse to have kids, buy a house, decent car, or get into any debt that REG FOLKS GET INTO because one is required to be able to close all thier debt in 30days-

  Soooo there's a waiting list. Some years ago I heard that the society was getting worried because not many were interested in the circuit work and the current CO's were getting old and nobody to replace them.... I guess it's not as bad as I heard.

  I'm sorry James...I remember those articles...and there was a sister in the cong. I was in at the time who was very, very, upset that she became pregnant in 1974 because the baby would be born in 1975. I wonder now if she is still a witness..and now her baby is all grown up.

  I had my first child in 1978 and the second one in 1985 (at 37). The first one brought my dad out of a depression he was in (non-jw). He was depressed because he felt he made a mistake in selling his home and moving back to the city of his birth. My second child came when my dad was ill and couldn't enjoy him as much. James, I just want to say that it's not too late for you and Lady "C". 40 years of age in this time, is still very young.

  Death - the downside of having friends...

  today i helped bury a friend, and in a few minutes i'll be leaving to attend the wake of another, who died yesterday.. i have less than a handful of friends from pre-exjw days (nothing new there - we're all in a similar boat, i'm sure), so my more recently acquired friends are precious to me.. for those that i count as friends (which obviously includes a number on this board), please let it be known that you are precious to me.. i've helped bury about six, during this last year (i hope that doesn't put anyone off from befriending me).

  every one has been like a hammerblow .

  regardless of beliefs, or lack thereof, death is still an enemy to the living and the dead (imho).. with that sombre note, i must away....

  I lost my mom in June of this year. My dad died in 1988 so I am an orphan, now. When I went to visit my hometown in August, I was shocked to find many of my school mates who had died. Some went on to live hard, brief lives and that is sooo sad. Hugz to you {{{{{{{{LittleToe}}}}}}}

  I think the original idea came from N H Knorr, who wanted to create a NEW WORLD SOCIETY, which would be the nucleus of those who would survive Armageddon into the "righteous new world."

  matty and i have gotten several books lately.

  right now we are both reading "30 years a watchtower slave" and "awakening of a jehovahs witness".

  both we highly recommend.. anyway in the midst of it all he asked me: when did it turn into a cult?.

  How many have left the WTS and joined another church/group?

  at this point in my life i don't think i could trust any religious group.

  i don't even feel the need to be a part of anything like that right now, and maybe never will.. but i know of some who have joined other churches/groups since leaving the borg.. why do some join another religion and why won't some ever get involved again?.

  what makes us so different?.

  I've often thought what I would do, after I complete my fade...I even thought of being a hermit, and just do a one on one communication with God. But I don't know. I can't see going to any particular church on a regular visit...maybe I'd visit a few....on a sort of rotation basis, just to see how others worship, but not get caught up in it because I think a lot of worship is just waaayyy to emotional.

  COCKATIELS (other birdies)

  ok folks, many of you on here have the usual: dogs and cats.. i know country girl, she's got an entire a to z array of critters, with henley the rooster being my favourite, even though the stew pot is lookin' good for him, but...well...compassion rules in his favour, and a broom.. cockatiels.. who has one, or two or birds as pets?.

  i'm curious.. now that i've got my webcam working, i'm going to take a picture of my beloved nim, the footless rescued cockatiel.

  she's 2 years old, and she's quite a character.. i also have a budgie (budgeriar/parakeet) named baby.

  I have two lovebirds which have frusted me to no end. They are noisy, knock their food dishes to the floor of the cage and give me a headache. If there is anyone who has lovebirds, what am I doing wrong? Am I not giving them the food they need or want?

  I also have two cats who are siblings but are so different in looks and personality it's amazing. They are not loving toward each other as I have seen other families of cats behave. But I love them both and they love me!
