Another explanation is how children are treated...like little adults. They are encouraged to take stances that no normal child should even think of, to pay attention and comment at meetings like adults, and to behave and be as responsible as adults...That includes knowing everything to the letter about doctrine. Even if...ESPECIALLY if...it will give the kids nightmares.
That's what I think. And the pressure is put on them to get baptized at an early age so they can be "servants" of Jehovah--when they are not ready for. Thus the pressure is on not to commit a "sexual sin" for fear of being disfellowshipped.

What do you think?
by Flowerpetal insome of you that have been away from the borg for a while may not know that the segment of the meeting when the co visits the congregations, called new things learned, is no more.
instead we are given another talk.
i am of the opinion that it was discontinued because too many far out answers were being given for one question--and it may have prompted discussion after the meeting that would result in speculation and/or leanings toward apostate teachings.

What might you guys think is the reason?
The way it is now, we are all relagated to answering questions out of a book, on Thursday nights, which is the book study--but the whole congregation meets at the hall. That's 45 minutes--and then 1/2 hr. talk by the CO. And that's it for his talks until Sunday.

halloween
by Enishi ini'm feeling depressed now.... on halloween night, we had bought some candy.
someone in my family suggested that we give it out to the trick or treaters.
i don't really have anything against the holidays anymore, and i couldn't really see anything wrong with giving out candy.

Don't you just hate when people (JWs) don't mind their own business? I am still attending meetings but I would NEVER squeal on anyone. I hope that you can come to a point where you won't have to worry about what they thought of you. I know there are a few I feel that way toward, but I just will have to accept that they are entitled to their feelings and opinions. They are just people. We all have to pee and poop no matter who we are. Just picture them doing that, and maybe it will make you smile.
I don't know if this has cheered you up any, but I certainly understand your feelings.

Online judgementalism
by logansrun inin my year and a half as a member of a couple ex-jw forums i have seen what i perceive to be a massive error on both my part and the part of others.
the mistake is this: judgeing someone simply from their on-line personality and statements.
i see it time and time again.

Imallgrowedup:
It's all about an attitude - do we really care about other people, or will it be said of us once we pass away that we were self-centered and didn't care who we ran over in order to be deemed the smartest, funniest, cutest or most outrageous person we could be regarless of how it affected someone else?
This is for on-line posting: Or that we wanted to be sooooo right, that we didn't care. And if the person(s) we debated with might have said something to make us think, we would dismiss it right off the top, b/c we didn't hit if off from the beginning.

Passing the time at boring meetings
by jws ini was doing some cleaning this weekend and ran across a drawer with a few of my old calculators, including my very first one.
today they have ones that are credit-card sized that do more.
but i remember getting it when i was about 12 and in 6th or 7th grade and at that time in the late 70's a calculator this size was still sort of a gadget.. for some reason the first thing that bounced into my mind when i pulled it out and looked at it was my old hall at the time.

I read the CONTEXT of whatever scripture somebody on the platform is trying to apply, and always find the CONTEXT is speaking of something totally different.
