by minimus injws make a huge deal out of everything!!!!
if you blew your nose the wrong way, you might've "stumbled" someone.
if you "french kissed", you might be guilty of "loose conduct".

Welcome Tallman! jwfacts already said what I was going to say so dittos. I was also raised by my jw mom and unbelieving father. He supported her by giving her money for us to go to the summer conventions. He had his own opinions about jws and religion in general, but never fought my mom on how she wanted to raise me. One issue I wish he would have fought her on was insisting I go to college. But that was the mid'60's, and looking back in retrospect, I see now how her thoughts were controlled by Brooklyn. But anyway, I've found a satisfying career, and I have faded and happy!

What was your earliest memory of being a witness?
by mtsgrad inwas your memory good, bad or ugly?

I have a foggy memory of being in a subway station, and my mom was carrying me, and I pulled on her beads, and they broke and fell all over the floor. This was at a convention. Another memory, was going with my mom on a Bible study, and getting stuck in the elevator--it was one of those old self-operating ones and they got stuck a lot and you could see a lot of the hardware on the doors--real scarey.
Hey, Mum--you must be about the same age as I am!!! Yay!

Why I was a lurker for so long: because english is not my mother tongue
by Madame ini often write on the swedish board for ex-jw: http://www.network54.com/forum/349340/.
it's so much easier for me to write in swedish.
it takes a lot of effort to find the right words in english.. i understand most of what i read here, but it means more hard work to try to express my thoughts in english.. anyway, i finally wanted you all to know that i appreciate this board.

Sister/Brother *** is disfellowshipped for.....
by Bonnie_Clyde inin the 1950's i remember they used to say what they were disfellowshipped for, whether it be fornication, stealing, etc.
then it was disfellowshipped for "loose conduct", then "conduct not becoming a christian.
" then it was simply "disfellowshipped" or "disassociated.

To publicize the mistakes of teenagers is cruel and unusual punishment. They have a hard enough time just growing up and finding their place in life.
Amen to that!!

Can/Should someone be in love with more than one person?
by AK - Jeff innot a question that affects me personally - i am dutifully bound to a single woman now for 33 years [omg that is 1/3 of a century already].. but do you believe that it is possible or profitalble to fall in love with more than one person at the same time?
in western culture it is normally considered 'betrayal' to do such a thing - but thoughout history and in cultures outside of the west today - it is considered acceptable, even normal.. typically it is the man who has more love interests than just one - not the woman - but some cultures have supported multiple partners for women also.
this is not a thread about judging others - just an inquiry about opinion.

The movie, Dr. Zhivago, is an example of one being in love with two people equally, IMHO.

Why can't all stars give this answer?
by Flowerpetal injust saw a documentary i recorded about elvis.
at a press conference once, one of the reporters asked him a political question, and he stated that he preferred to keep his opinion to himself and that he was just an entertainer and that's what he wants to do.
great answer and it kept his fans happy to the end.. now i am not star-struck, but i do get very annoyed when some of my favorite stars spout their personal opinions on politics, etc.

Big Love - Disfellowshipped?
by unique1 indid anyone else see big love last night?
when nicky's mom found her with the runaway and denounced her and disowned her, it was so familiar to me and i am sure many others.
it showed the pain nicky felt when her mother turned her back on her even though she was just trying to do what she thought was right.

many Stephen King books;
Confessions of aFailedSouthern Lady, by Florence King (this is a truly LOL book)
