Be cautious, and as others have stated on other topics, try to use the Bible and refer to it more than the publications when commenting, or giving student talks, etc. And welcome to the board!!!

Fading In? Am I nuts?
by jaydoe ini am a baptized jw that faded some years back.
in those days i deeply believed in the org and became disillusioned by some things happening in the local congregation.
following some research on the net i decided to fade out of watchtower existence because i did not want to keep mixing with false religion (or so i thought at the time).

COULD BE GONE FOR AWHILE!
by Dansk indear all,.
those of you who have posted here regularly for the past four years have helped me immensely in my recovery from watchtower and have shared with me in my journey.
you will also know that, after winning my battle with watchtower (save for one daughter who is still stuck fast in the org and shunning the rest of us), i have been fighting an even greater battle these past three years - cancer!.

D.C. "Come Be My Follower" 2007
by bobld inthat was the new book released at the d.c. some observations:they made reference to john 3:16.i noticed they referred to it a number of times, but only mentioned the 1st part about the ransom and not the part"in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life".
in the book "come be my follower" they criticize christendom and what it believes.page 12 they state the purpose of the book"its aim is,not to give a complete summary of the life and ministry ofjesus,"than on page 22 they state "the study aid, will make a careful study of the life and ministry of jesus".
also on page 12 and page 28 they say see "the greatest man who ever lived" and" what does the bible really teach?

In the book "Come Be My Follower" they criticize Christendom and what it believes.
Not again..... I had enough of their criticism a few years ago when we studied the Isaiah book. Of course, that was the year I was giving serious thought about what I was being taught by the WTS, and was getting tired of Christendom being called the antitypical "renagade Jerusalem." <sigh>

In my late teens, my mom and I went to see James Brown--so unquestionably it was him. The slogan that he was "the hardest working man in show business" was the truth!! I felt I got my money's worth many times over! Sad that he is dead now.

Why would we want to write soon outdated medical publications? Instead we should work on giving people Bible truths.
Oh so what WTB&TS writes is never outdated??? Then why the "new light?"

Why is the attendance numbers taken twice during the meetings?
by JH inthe watchtower wants to know just about everything and the attendance at meetings is one of them.. do they count how many people are at the hall a second time, just to know if anyone slipped out un noticed ?.

I've never heard of them stating they count babies. What I have heard is they count children who are paying attention.

Meditating--oh, yes, WTS approves of meditation but their definition of it.
*** g00 9/8 p. 21 Meditation That Is Beneficial ***The psalmist David recognized the role that meditation plays in pleasing God. He stated: “The mouth of the righteous is the one that utters wisdom in an undertone.” (Psalm 37:30) Yes, meditation is an identifying mark of a faithful worshiper...Clearly, we have many reasons to engage in deep, concentrated thinking about important things. It is vital to reflect on our past experiences, ponder over current matters, and thoughtfully contemplate our future.
*** w83 7/15 pp. 29-30 Watch Out for This Deceiver! ***Particularly problematical is yoga-type meditation. Some may point to the fact that the Bible, too, encourages meditation. However, Christian meditation is an active meditation, pondering on upbuilding and beneficial matters. (Psalm 63:6; Proverbs 15:28; Philippians 4:8) Yoga-style meditation is something else. “The soul’s essence, pure intelligence, is obscured by mental activities, whose suppression is the main purpose of Yoga. The mind is to be controlled by constant practice of meditation and nonattachment to material objects. The ultimate result is the suppression of all mental tendencies, conscious or latent.”—The Encyclopedia Americana.
Is such emptying of the mind healthy? One practicer reports that during one extended period of exercise and meditation, he felt frequent attacks by invisible forces. The demons can take advantage of a mind that is empty and fill it with their own thoughts. (Luke 11:24-26) So beware! This practice could make you their prey.
Sometime before I stopped attending regularly, during 2003, there was a WTS book which was released at a convention either that year or a few years before, and I can't find my copy. Anyway, there was a paragraph on meditation (the WTS way) how to meditate and what to meditate on, mentioning 4 categories. Their statements on meditation was another reason why I decided to leave. Does anyone recall this book?
Thanks, Blondie for another good review of the study article!
