Actually it was Judge Rutherford, the second president of the society who coined the name based on Isaiah 43:10, and no he didn't clear it with God. And yes, it was presumptuous for Rutherford to do this and leave it as a legacy for the society. But I believe God is much bigger than any religion on this earth who claims Him as their own.

Sign of the Times/the End is Near!!!!!!!!!!
by mama1119 inmy dad told me a story today about a dub he works with.
my dad is a huge spots fan, and he was talking to this dub about the incident a couple years ago when some baseball player wrote a book about all the steroid use in sports...just normal conversation...and this dub shook his head and said..."just goes to show you the end is near, its a sign of the end of system of things".
where in the bible did it list baseball players steroid use as a sign of the end???

I often wonder how long he will be a witness. IMHO, he's just one of these guys who will be something for a while (as in the unpronounceable symbol) and then go on to something else.

I love Hiro (the Japanese guy) especially when he came from the future to talk to the guy in the subway. I loved his ponytail and his sword and he was without his glasses.
I also believe the cheerleader will somehow absorb the bomb---however, if she is indestructable, in what way will she be saved?
I also like that the SciFi channel airs Heros on Friday evenings so you can either get to see it again, or catch up on that week's episode if you missed it on Monday.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 10-22-06 WT Study (TONGUE)

*** w79 2/15 p. 4 Are You Supportive?—You Can Be! ***
She must guard against a common weakness that many wives have, namely, that of nagging. Not without good reason does King Solomon of old allude to this. (Prov. 21:19; 25:24) Why do some women engage in it despite really loving their husbands? It could well be due to an unconscious rebellion against the husband’s headship—either because of wanting to have more of a say in matters or to remind the husband that he also is not perfect. Then, again, it may be due to exaggeration of the importance of details.
Why couldn't it well be this: taking your husband at his word that he will take care of something and ends up not taking care of it so the wife has to do it? How very frustrating is that?
How about letting your "Yes" mean yes and your "No" mean no?

Cog,
Excellent, excellent point!
Quote from Blondie:
*** w97 8/15 p. 14 par. 11 Living for Today or for an Eternal Future? ***
There is also Jesus’ prediction that "this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14) Today, Jehovah’s Witnesses carry out their work in 233 lands, island groups, and territories. True, untouched territories still exist, and perhaps in Jehovah’s due time, a door of opportunity will open. (1 Corinthians 16:9) Still, Jesus’ words recorded at Matthew 10:23 are sobering: "You will by no means complete the circuit of the cities of Israel until the Son of man arrives."While the good news will surely be announced throughout the earth, we will not in person reach all parts of the earth with the Kingdom message before Jesus "arrives" as Executioner.

What Do You Think About The "Faithful&Discreet Slave Class"?
by minimus inthere are so many new posters here now, i think this topic should be revisited.
i believe the most ridiculous belief that witnesses have is a "slave class" made up of 144,000 give spiritual "food at the proper time".
why can't jws see thru this??

OOPS! I meant to add to my comments, that the NWT shows two slaves, the faithful one and the evil one. Of course, the society identifies with the faithful one never even considering the possibility that they could become the evil slave. But as you said, it's a parable anyway, and we have all realized that it's the governing body who is running the show--not the remaning ones who claim to be the 144,000.

You might like this one:

The administrator has been disfellowshipped from JWs, but he is more interested in going to the Bible for real discussions. As of Monday, he was fine-tuning the site, so I'm not sure if it's ready to receive any posts, but you can at least register, and look around at the different sections and topics,

There are some translations/versions of the Bible including the Emphatic Diaglott, which show the possibility of the faithful slave becoming evil, and getting impatient with the master's return, and begins to beat his fellow slaves. Does that sound familiar--as in the WTS calling the Bible Students (i.e. Russell's followers) the "evil slave" class? ...and still considers them that way.

What is your purpose here?
by The Scotsman init is interesting to read the posts here.
people desperately trying to convince themselves that they were right to give up!.
is this your purpose in coming here????.

My purpose here is to become a more informed person. You know that slogan, "Knowledge is power?" When one starts to gather knowledge which isn't slanted to an organization's beliefs, and I mean any organization, religious or otherwise, one starts to see a bigger picture, a much bigger picture.
Also when the Isaiah book was studied in the book study groups, a few years ago, I just got very tired of another comparison of apostate Jerusalem to Christendom and the bashing which followed . Christendom may not be the best of all worlds, but it sure does a whole lot more in at least attempting to help those in 3rd world countries with food and medicines, etc. I don't see the WT society doing things like that.
Scotsman, I think you should look at Blondie's postings every week in the "Bible Research and Study Articles" section of this forum. She does an excellent job of covering and examining the current, main WT study articles once a week, and she includes WT quotes from past articles in past years, and she also raises pertinent questions to think about.
BTW, I was raised as a JW and was baptized at the age of 11 1/2 yrs. old in 1959. Over the last few years I have come to realize that a child has no business getting baptized especially before puberty and a teenager definitely has no business getting baptized either. If JWs preach that we are to bet footstep followers of Jesus, I ask you to think about the age Jesus was when he got baptized. He was about 30 yrs. old, right? Shouldn't that example be followed as well?
