What are your Guilty Pleasures of a geeky/nerdy variety?

i don't mean the ones we know about already - things people wouldn't think you did or enjoyed to look at you.. i love watching ray mears extreme survival and learning about how to survive and find food and shelter in extreme climates even though there is a strong possibility that i shall never try and escape naked from a japanese prisoner of war camp, or crash without a flagon of water into the sahara, or come stuck in my ship in a freezing ice plateau in deepest antartica.

I love sci/fi, other than that I am not a nerd at all just way cool. LOL

I love Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Logan's Run, Soylent Green,all of theTerminators, and The Matrix.

I love plots involving space travel, time travel or cryogenics, anything with a twist really.

Right now I am addicted to "Heroes". #@%^ writer's strike!

Getting the forum back on track

recently we seem to have had a few different dramas and subsequent fallout on the fourm which i feel has detracted from its purpose.

with this in mind we have decided that we need to bring the forum back on track and as such we will be clamping down on a lot of the aggressive / insulting posts which have begun to become the norm for a few people.

we will also be clamping down on the paranoid assusation type of comments against newbies, if someone joins the fourm and you do not believe everything they post - so what, why do we need to hound them away with shouts of troll and fake etc, just ignore them if you dont beleive them.

in the 1960s my mother and father came to this country knowing one language, one religion, and what hard work ethics were.

they were in a complete aw of what america was like.

they came here with very little knowledge and very little monies, so wed be safe to say that they were very gullible right.

2008 Memorial

Did the WT Discourage Platonic Friendships Between Men & Women ?

my wife and i have discussed this before , and it has been an education for me getting out of the jehovah's witnesses over 4 years ago to see the difference in how witnesses and non-witnesses view this subject .

my wife before we met had some guy friends who she had non sexual friendships with and she was amazed when we first started dating when i told her how strict the witnesses were on men and women hanging out together alone just as friends , and that when i was a witness i never did that - at the risk of being falsely dragged before a committee if i was found in public alone with a witness woman !

my wife was amazed at the lack of trust that the elders had in each one of us as rank and file members !

I've made a lot of friends through employment and since I've been in sales of some kind for quite awhile that includes men. I have a very good friend that I started hanging out with before I got reinstated and that of course was frowned on. I never completely gave up any of my worldly friends when I went back to the cult and that includes male friends.

My husband was in socail work for years so the opposite was true for him. He has a lot of female friends. We never had a problem with it so I figured it was no one's business. I did not, however, broadcast it in the congregation.

Yeah - it's whacked that they think men and women can't be just friends.

Big Announcement on next Service meeting

there seems to be a very important announcement this coming weeking on the next service meeting, forme it will be on wednesday 30th jan.. during the last 2 meetings they have asked that every batized jw be at that meeting and even to tell others who might not have heard the annoucement.. anyone here have any ideas i wouldn't be surprised if they are changing meeting times and arrangments...less meeting at is !.
