10 years ago, yes i did believe that the WT actually relayed the rules from Jehovah. I don't think i could have been an active jw and actually believed otherwise. Now i believe the opposite and am dissociated.

About 10 years ago a sister in my congregation died and that was when i learned that she could never remarry in the new system and would be more like a friend to her past husband. Seemed rather cold of Jehovah to make this a rule and it never sat well with me then. Scans of society articles would be great.

"we are so close to the end cause morals are worse than ever"....NOT!
by oompa inmy jw-ex-wife told me this the other day...the one df'd three times and reproved twice that i know of (oh the irony of speaking of morals)...she was going on about evil movies and the violent cage boxing/wrestling events (sorry i forget the name of these).....well i went off!.....i asked her how can she say that when in jesus day and shortly after....the romans...in real life let huge animals devour humans as they tried to fight off the animals!.....and they watched real people hack each other to bits withs swords!.....and that in live plays people would have sex and such.....and these were open public events.....not things in dark warehouses in third world countries......she just got mad............oompa.
there was even "temple prostitutes" in the bible....now that could get me back to the meetings.

I don't think this has been brought up on this thread but when a witnesses says to me how much worse society is getting and how morals are non existant, I can't help but think that we just hear about the problems in the world more than we used to.
for example family violence. I think as a society the problem of family violence is an issue that has more coverage. We now have more help for victoms of violence. I think that decades ago problems in the home were just not talked about. I imagine abuse was just swept under the rug and people looked the other way. Now people are more empowered and getting help and getting out of bad relationships. The problems that have always been their are just talked about more.
Also the idea of wars, and earthquakes ect becoming more and more common. Isn't it really just a matter of now because of radio, tv, internet, our world is just more connected and we hear about disasters happening all over the world.

Things That Irritated You When You Were A JW
by minimus inthere were some witnesses that loved taking notes for every meeting.
whatever you would say, the note takers were busy as a bee writing down every word.
especially if you went out of town to give a talk, certain ones (only sisters) would take their note taking very very seriously.. another thing that used to get to me was when you'd see the same people every assembly on the platform giving a talk or being in a part.

I hated that anytime you talked to a single brother in the hall, you were automatically dating. wtf i was only 17! They tell you to only associate with members of the congregation, so what do you do when your in a small congregation and the only people your age are guys. Yes we did end up dating and fooling around but come on i was 17.
i also hated how everytime the circuit overseer would visit all the sisters (the borderline ones mostly highschool girls) would put on their most conservative clothes and act like little angels at the meetings. Gee a week ago you should have been councelled that your shirt was too short and your shirt way too low cut. fucking hyocrites.

Craziest thing you've ever been "counseled" for????
by superman ini know that this has been a popular post in the past.
but after my last post, it got me thinking.
i used to always use those stupid field service report slips as scratch paper.

I was counseled for saying good luck, oh my gosh, and bless you when someone sneezed.
For wearing a shirt in high school that said "No animal testing"
For being to affectionate during the meetings with my husband (just holding hands or putting our arms around eachother during the song). My husband told the elder in question that he could start worrying about the state of our marriage when we stop showing any affection to eachother.
For talking to a brother my age at the kingdom hall cause I was too young to even think about getting married.

The most inappropriate remarks from Jehovahs Witnesses
by jambon1 ini have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.
1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".
sick, sick, sick!

This is what the elder said on the phone to my hubby. You are flushing your spirituality and what little spirituality your wife has down the toilet.
This elder was also the one who was a part of my judical committee. I made the mistake of confessing my guilt about getting a bit too close to my soon to be husband before we married. We ended up eloping and when the elders sat us down after we had gotten married (this was the judical committee meeting) they said after deciding not to disfellowship us that is was a good thing that we eloped cause they would not have been able to attend our wedding in good conscience.
Since then my husband and I have drifted away and are now inactive. The elder who made the comment to my husband and sat in on our judical committee many years later ended up divorced after his wife left him for beating her. The wife in question left the religion and the elder is still an elder. The opinion of the congregation is that his wife went "crazy" (my mother in laws words) and left her husband. The congration fully supports the husband and has turned their back on his former wife.

Most JW's Really Hate Going to the Conventions/Assemblies. Some Admit It.
by OnTheWayOut inso the wife and i met up with an old friend.
the woman actually grew up around my .
wife, i knew her as a young adult.

The best thing about the assemblies for me were:
Buying cute clothes to show off, guy watching, hanging out with friends at intermissions, staying in a hotel with my friends in the same one, the hotel pool, going to movies and the mall in the evenings with friends. During the actual program I would use binocoluars to find the guy I was crushing on and check him out. Thats pretty much it...oh wait one more when they had food service available I loved the vanilla pudding cups they had.
