And then there's Sunday brunch on a sidewalk cafe while all the JW's are at their meetings... what a life!

I am thinking about converting the laundry room to something else.

This is a huge mistake from a real estate agent's point of view. Very bad for re-sale. People prefer to have their laundry room on a main floor and not have to go down to the basement with heavy baskets of laundry. Finishing the basement into usable space (office/media room/guest quarters...) will greatly improve re-sale value, but keep the laundry upstairs. :)

Should I Remain Married to a Disfellowshipped Jehovah's Witness?
by Dogpatch inin response to my article entitled, "should i divorce my jehovah's witness mate?
the only comfort i can find in these stories is the fact that i no longer feel alone in this very confusing time.. .

In every debate there are extremists who's cause becomes a "religion". Common sense and a sincere desire to do our part to protect our planet is all we need.
This is what I do:
1- I recycle even though there is no curb side pick up in my area. It's a pain to store and sort stuff in my garage and then fill up my trunk and go accross town, but it makes me feel good. I only do plastic, metal and glass. I don't recycle paper and cardboard because it's just too much in my circumstances. I do what I can w/o going nuts.
2- I make several trips to Goodwill (very near my home) every month to drop off clothes and household items I once would have thrown out.
3- I keep tote bags in my car for grocery shopping and a folded bag in my purse for other types of shopping.
4- I try not to purchase anything I don't really need or I'm not absolutely in love with.
There is a lot more I could do, but it could easily take over my life and that would negate any benefits of what I do.

Need help picking an engagement ring
by Cagefighter inladies please weigh in.... i am seriously thinking about buying an engagment this summer.
first, we are both early 30's make about the same roughly (50k) a year.. i am thinking getting a decent quality diamond .90 carat on a platinum ring... seems to be about $3800-4500k price wise.. please be honest..... i saw the ring her x gave her.. it was yellow gold with a white gold top where some side stones were and a .66 to center stone was set that was a "gift".
granted she picked it out.. 1. my ring must be way better than the one her x gave her.. 2. i won't propose without a ring so taking her to pick on out is not an option.

Oh, and antique or estate rings are popular too. But, again, it all depends on what your gf likes. You might want to ask one of her close friends if you thingk you can trust them not to spill the beans...

That's right min. Emerald cuts are usualy cut from high quality diamonds for that reason.
A "cushion" setting is quite popular these days. Try to find out what your gf prefers.

You need to find out what she likes. Me, I'm partial to the emerald cut and prefer simple settings. Everyone is different.
It's become popular (marketing gurus) to purchase "a diamond of a carat or more", but quality trumps quantity in my book. Consider the 5 c's: cut, clarity, color, carat and cost when selecting a diamond.
Platinum is more expensive but much more desirable than white gold, which is nothing but a coating and tends to fade.
My husband did his homework 30 years ago and I still love my .50 emerald cut solitare.
Also... you may want to make sure it's a "conflict free" diamond (this matters to me, but not everyone).
Make sure to get down on one knee when you pop the question!
Good luck and congratulations!

Yet one more thread on the new "generation".... Oh, Joy!
by undercover ini know, i know... some of ya'll are gettin' sick of this "generation" thing... .
but for whatever reason, i had not seen this actual quote from the dc talk (that or had not paid much attention to it until now).
seeing it in print really brought home how desparate they are to try to hang on to 1914 in whatever way they can.

They surely know this makes no sense. They must be counting on the fact that most people don't really listen to the public talk all that intently and are in a rush to get the convention over with. For those who do pay attention, if they have half a brain they will have some serious self searching to do...
Oh, but wait... DC public talks usually end up as WT articles in a few months... hopefully, this will open up a can a worms... but I doubt it...
