  just seen this on the news.

  i know that european countries won't extradite anyone to the us if they could face the death penalty, but this seems a very different kettle of fish somehow.

  I found one "opinion" of yours provocative and downright stupid (because it's simply irrelevant to the issue and nothing except a sort of ad hominem attack). Your answer implied that you didn't mean it, after all, you used the "intended humor icon" at the end of the message.

  So, forgive my stupidity for not being able to decipher your grandiose writing (in spite of all that boldface and colored stuff) and enlighten me: was your accusation that the Germans oppose the death penalty (in part) because they feel bad about the 3rd Reich

  a) meant seriously,
  b) meant as a joke,
  c) not meant as anything, I'm just imagining it, it's all my fault, and I shouldn't take things out of context like all those aposta...oh, sorry, you get my drift.

  Uhm, sure, yes. And the Americans are trying to look more righteous today to offset their historical connections to (insert any historical genocide or war crime committed by Americans here).

  Are you trying to discuss an issue, or just trying to provoke? That's not being "conservative", that's being stupid.

  Well, I'm very skeptical. It doesn't seem to be the right opportunity to make a point against the death penalty.

  OTOH: whenever it comes to law enforcement on US citizens abroad, the US government wants to dictate the terms (ranging from the usual "human rights concerns" to direct military threats). So it's not like the Germans are setting a precedent here. They're just acting the way the US has been acting for many decades.

  Those waiting for 2 or 3 years tied up in litigation while pursuing Social Security Disability because they are physically handicapped I am certain do not find it as humorous. All the while visas and financial aid are granted for total foreigners to enter the United States to be research scientists or engineers, while the government in some cases neglects its own born-and-raised citizens.

  Hm. Do you realize where US science (and therefore, the nation's economic and military power) would be today without scientists "imported" from other countries? It's only in the best self-interest of the US to get foreign researchers into the country. Research scientists are a HUGE asset, not a burden.

  Plus, I find it quite comical that people seem to think US foreign policy is too altruistic, or altruistic at all. The US is primarily acting in its own interest, short-term or long-term. Which is quite fine with me, as long as I don't happen to be in the gunsights of the US military. Or as long as I don't happen to work in an industry that's being sanctioned by trade restrictions of the world's self-proclaimed champions of free, unrestricted trade :-)

  another day where the critics of israel are silent in the face of the violence and hatred of the arabs.

  another day when amnesty international and all the other left wingers ignore the fact that innocent israelis are dying.

  So, Yeru, what's your point? Do you believe that Israel's current strategy of military retaliation - which you apparently support - works? Do you see a decrease of terrorist attacks, or any hope for it?

  Note that I'm not asking whether it's morally acceptable or not, or who's really responsible for the current mess. I'm just wondering why doing something that has not had ANY success for months or years should suddenly help the situation? Israel's only *real* successes against Palestinian terrorist leaders have been accomplished by cooperating with Palestinian authorities (as dubious as some of them may be), not by destroying them. Yet, that's what Israel is doing, and what the US is supporting.

  "More of the same" is rarely a useful strategy.

  It's been three years, at the very least, since I've seen an elderly JW couple in door-to-door service <i>anywhere</i> in the areas where I live and work, which represent a range from "small, but lively town, perfect for door-to-door witnessing" to "big city". Please note I saw them on the street (anyone without JW experience probably wouldn't have noticed they were JWs), it's not that they actually ever knocked on my door.

  There's just this one guy that I've known since I was a little kid, standing alone on the same street corner every day for an hour or two (he used to be there longer, but he's obviously having health problems due to his age). Without my JW experience, I'd probably think he's just a beggar or something.

  So I have to agree: where are those locusts? Where is the spectacle to the whole world?
