Growing up a Jehovah's Witness
by jwfacts ingrowing up a jw makes a person unique, long after you leave.
even though i strongly disagree with much of what i was taught, i still am tainted by my upbringing in that i think a thought and then correct myself with what i now should think (or visa versa, think something and then remember what i once would have thought).. even now that i am far removed from watchtower thinking, i still feel somewhat of an alien from those around me.
though i am loved at work, i feel they laugh at me more than they laugh with me.. for some time now, i have been meaning to chronograph the concepts that a witness child is indocrinated with to show just how damaging an upbringing it is.

Nice job on this...I was raised as a JW from age 9. The scenarios you list are right on the mark. I was in my early 20's when 1975 came and went, so I was in the heat of the anti-college frenzy prior to that. It definitely impacted my viewpoint of things, but fortunately I was a rebel and went to school and eventually got a degree. I was always viewed as "spiritually weak" for not pioneering and going to Bethel.
To this day, I still process things like you mentioned in the post. I still have to conciously re-think things that immediately trigger my JW ingrained thinking patterns. I liken it to speaking a foreign language, but you are still mentally translating in English what you are hearing. I doubt any of us raised as JW's will ever be able to completely break this thinking pattern...

How to PROFIT from Watchtower fearmongering
by Nathan Natas inmy association with the jws began in the late 1950's.
i participated in the pre-1975 hysteria just as i was instructed to do.
i knew people who sold their businesses and homes and calculated just how much they could spend each month to support themselves in the full-time ministry until their liberation date of october 1975.. (after all, you wouldn't want to run out of money in august 1975 - what would you do for two months?).

I love it Nathan...the only flaw I see in your plan is that you are assuming any of these JW's have jobs paying enough to afford houses and boats!!

For many people, smoking is one of the most powerful "drugs" known. The hold it has on a truly addicted person is so strong that it goes beyond rational thought. I have seen people dying of lung cancer that still had to have a cigarette!! Unfortunately, pancreatic cancer is extremely deadly...I don't condone it, but I doubt smoking at this stage of the game will make much of a difference for Mr. Swayze

An explanation of the evil slave class as explained by the JWS
by Homerovah the Almighty inone thing that either i've missed or didn't catch a discussion on is about " the evil slave class ".
thats a labeling they placed on people that voice disagreement in public or privately against jws doctrines and their organization.
does this refresh a few memories.

I remember the Evil Slave being defined as the annointed ones who became apostate and actively worked against the FDS. That was back in the 60's and 70's. In later years, I don't recall the Evil Slave being discussed much...the focus after the mid-80's seemed to be the evil apostates in general, and the outspoken ones in particular. I also recall the pickets outside the district conventions denouncing JW's...they were always referred to as apostates, but I am guessing many were evangelicals and conservative Christians calling JW's out as a cult.
