My experience has been that you can be acquaintances, but as you become "closer", the chances for more than just being conversation buddies gets more possible. I have had a couple of women friends, and on both occasions, we ended up in a physical relationship. It just seems that as men and women become close, a connection can easily form. Men are driven by physical attraction...women tend to bond through intimacy. If a man and a woman become emotionally intimate, it is very likely the physical intimacy will follow. My two cents...

Why leave one religion only to join another one??
by Monsieur ini read how many here have learned ttat, leave the jw faith, but then subscribe to the 'true' gospel of jesus.. it seems rather contradictory.
the jw faith teaches a very positive 'concept' of christ and his teachings, how is this different from the way other religions teach it?.
it seems more logical to discard or ignore any claims of historic or authentic proof of christ's existence.

Regardless of whether you are believer or not, the fact that the Jesus of the WTS is VERY different than the Jesus taught by most of Christendom (and yes, they use this term in a positive manner unlike what JW's have been taught!). I would suggest that you do a little research on the matter, but a couple of the big differences have to do with the deity of Jesus (God or "a god") and the definition of Grace (or in JW talk, "underserved kindness"). Again, whether you believe or not, you can see why people are drawn to something presented in a very different light than what they were taught as JW's.
Some may become Atheists after leaving the WTS, but it is not unreasonable to compare it to food. Some may have an epiphany and choose to be vegetarians, while others may just give up red meat and switch to chicken and fish.

My Mom has decided to turn me in... I am not afraid (Letter Inside)
by sosoconfused inthe only reason i am posting this is because i know many of you are going or will be going through something similar and wonder if it is worth it.
i personally feel that it is worth it regardless of what i lose.
my wife is backing me and i have my children.

Very persuasive letter indeed. I find it interesting how the WTS "party line" is absolutely adhered to by your Mom regarding Ray Franz. It is exactly what I would expect from my mother...blind adherence to policy despite any real evidence to the contrary. I am sorry you have to experience this from your family, and in particular, from your own mother.

Judicial Meeting
by Kool Jo inso here you are...sitting with a couple of elders at judicial meeting, and you're asked the following question:.
"do you still believe that the fds is the channel that jehovah is using"?.
now is it possible to answer 'no' without being df, or how would you answer that question?.

No need to be truthful...think of it as your version of "Theocratic warfare"!

2013 Drama: "Show Yourself Attentive"
by breakfast of champions inthis is the first of three "dramas" this dc, and i have to say, it was one of the weirdest dramas ever.
i won't go through all the details.
maybe someone else wants to throw in their 2c.. it starts out with two men standing on the "beach" talking, but it took me awhile to figure out what in the hell was going on.

No one in the congregation spoke up or noticed, but now that the media has gotten hold of the story, I can guarantee a JC is being formed. Why be pro-active when you can be reactive?...

Since you've left, are you still good friends with your bestest JW buddies?
by Julia Orwell inis it possible that someone has a jw friend who's very active in the congregation, knows you don't believe it anymore, and is still your friend?
i'm at the point where word is getting out that i'm not going to meetings anymore, and friends ask me if they'll be seeing me at the ca and i tell them i'm not going.
they want to know why, and what they can do to encourage me.

Not a one...in fact, I have never been contacted by the Elders or any "friends" in the over 20 years since I was DF'ed. My JW mother and brother are the only ones with any contact...and that is limited.

Theists - Why does Morality require the existence of God?
by cantleave in"without god in your life, you cannot have a moral compass",,,, please explain to me why you think that should be so?

Interesting read Cantleave...and I agree that religion alone does not establish morality, but that still doesn't resolve (and it probably can't for a certainty either way) whether morals requires the existence of a deity or intelligent designer. It ultimately comes down to faith and belief in either argument.

I guess I view empathy as an emotion, where morals are a set of inate values. The way I read the quoted material was that the empathic brain reacts to the facial expressions and actions that others experience. I see not doing certain things (kill, rape, steal) as an inate value...even remote cultures have certain inate values that aren't violated without sanction.
Sorry if I am not being very clear today!

New Hope...I think you need to seperate the parts of your question. One part is the belief in God or an Intelligent Designer (the supernatural), and the other is belief in the Bible or orher "holy" book. One does not preclude the other. The biggest divider between believers and Atheists is their view of the supernatural versus the natural world. If the supernatural can't be accepted, than neither can the existence of a deity.
