I know of many employers that routinely check the internet and sites such as Facebook, MySpace, etc...if they see something they would consider inappropriate, that is the end of the line. Things propagate on the web and are then nearly impossible to get back. My advice...don't put anything on the web you wouldn't want a prospective college interviewer, employer, spouse or significant other to see.

Jesus not crucified on torture stake. Impossible!
by sacolton inunwittingly the germans, during wwii, they experimented with many, many ways for killing people, efficiently and quickly.
their records show that when a person is suspended with their hands over their head, as they would be on the jw "torture stake," they can survive for approximately one hour.
if their feet are tied down, as well, the time is reduced to about 15 minutes.. .

Reniaa...
We will have to agree to disagree. Again, I am not arguing the rightness or wrongness of a stake versus a cross. As I said earlier, I don't know which it was. What I have trouble with is that neither you or the WT know the correct answer either. Despite this, you are insistent that you are correct in your interpretation and everyone else is wrong. To use a red herring argument about idol worship and wearing weapons around your neck are really not relevant.
By the way, unless the distance to Golgotha from the location of Jesus' scourging is less than 50 feet or so, it is unlikely that a caber (stauros) could be carried by a weakened man. The average caber toss is not much further than the actual length of the caber itself.

Reniaa, the caber throwing analogy is a good one because it illustrates how difficult it is to wield the large poles for any distance. As to using the Moses, snake on a pole analogy, Jesus was raised on a pole...it is just a question of how he was fastened to it, whether on the upright alone or with a cross-member.
I guess I am missing something when you say that by referring to a stake rather than a cross, JW's draw honor to the sacrifice rather than the symbol. How do you see that as different than saying he died on a cross? I was in a Christian church yesterday, and it was interesting that the pastor used the same analogy as the WT does about wearing a gun around your neck if a loved one was murdered by a gun. The difference was that he was pointing out that it isn't the honoring of the weapon, but rather the reminder of the sacrificial act and its meaning to believers.
If the use of something by churches is a criteria for dismissing it as an idol or pagan, then I guess we better get rid of Bibles, pictures of Jesus, wine and unleavened bread, etc...

Thanks Leolaia...I was just trying to do some rough thumbnail math on the potential weight of the upright. Your clarification makes it quite clear that carrying it for any distance was a multiple person job.
I didn't even get into the details of the scourging that Jesus underwent, but all accounts (including those of the WT) indicate it was a horrific infliction of physical punishment...not the kind of stuff that would leave a man much strength to do anything beyond carrying heavy objects a short distance without help. The fact that Jesus was able to do what he did is a testament to his strength, but even he could no longer do it alone. It is unlikely that even a healthy, rested man could carry a 175+ lb. upright for any distance...even with the help of another man.
Reniaa...do you believe that Jesus could carry a 175+ lb. stauros through the streets in his condition...even with the help of Simon of Cyrene? Doesn't it make more sense that he carried something else to Golgotha where the upright was already in place?...

Why do we say Witness teachings are idiotic - Weren't all of us Witnesses?
by BonaFide inso many on this forum talk about how witnesses are stupid, ignorant, unable to reason, and brainwashed.
we also pick apart the watchtower as having such stupid teachings, and how anyone can see all of it is so ridiculous.
some use terms like the filthful slave, and the washtowel.. yet, many of us were witnesses for years, or even decades.

I agree with Outlaw and JD...it is important to have the suspension looked at and the alignment checked...it is cheap maintenance. I am not a big fan of mixing brands and tread patterns on a car...I would stick with the Pirellis if you are going to only replace two of them. Just drive carefully to the store!!

Earnest...
I agree that my calculations were conservative on the weight of the upright...and that gives more credence to what I suggest about the dragging of it through the streets. It is also very probable that a cross-beam would also be heavy and unwieldy...and certainly supports the description of Jesus requiring Simon of Cyrene's assistance.
I don't know what was ultimately carried by Jesus...or if he died on a stake or a cross. The point I have tried to make to Reniaa (and you agree with) is that it is irrelevant because it is what happened that mattered, not the details of how it happened. To get caught up in the legalism of the "how's" takes away from the ultimate purpose of the act.

If the wear is on one side of the car, you might want to have the alignment checked as well...
