  What was one of the most difficult Scripture for you to understand?

  Any scripture that can be interpreted as either literal or symbolic, ie: Ezekial 38 or the majority of Revelation. JW's tend to mix interpretations, ie: the 144,000 is a literal number of "anointed Christians" while Christendom interprets it to be a literal number of Jews...the bulk of Revelation JW's read as symbolic while Christendom sees the majority as literal events. Same with Ezekial 38, JW's see it as symbolic and Christendom interprets it as literal. It was very confusing to me as a JW when I was asked to defend our interpretation, especially by a knowledgeable Born Again. They would feel we were very inconsistent with interpretation.

  Hello From a Newbie

  i found this site randomly the other day on an unrelated search, and its nice to find a place where people can discuss a relgion that in house cannot be discussed without either being quoted mantras or a very skewed view of the world.. ok about me.. im a 24 year old taiwanese-american, and i have been raised as a jw from the age of about three to the age of 17, when i unoffically left.

  i started to have doubts around age 12, but did what i was supposed to to keep mommy and daddy happy.

  my parents are jws, as well as my older 1/2 sister, and my younger sister.

  sometimes i feel like a second class apostate...not that anyone has ever said anything to make me feel that way, i just do, you know what i mean?.

  i left the jws because i just couldn't fight my flesh anymore.

  the battle inside was going to kill me literally.

  My story is similar to Aussie and Morbidzbaby...I had doubts growing up, married far too young, had a family, mindlessly existed in a life that I knew was not making me happy, etc., etc. I finally realized this wasn't the truth and that my marriage was making me miserable. My then wife was a good woman, but totally sold out to the Borg. I was frustrated and miserable because nothing I did was good enough...the wife always badgered me about not doing enough for Jehovah and the elders continually admonished me for "not reaching out". I finally hit the wall, and decided I needed to escape. The way I did it was not noble, and I am not proud of it...but it did ultimately give me the freedom to critically think and look at other options. I am sorry I hurt my ex and my kids, but things turned out well and my kids and I now have a fantastic relationship. Unfortunately, their mother has distanced herself from the kids, and though they love their mom, they have very minimal contact with her. Neither kid followed her into the Borg, so they ultimately got college degrees and good jobs. I don't recommend the way I left, but it ultimately worked out well.

  when i registered here over 4 years ago i thought it would be a good place to interact with like-minded christians who loved jehovah as much as i do.

  but after reading some of the posts on here i'm beginning to believe that the sentiment on here is largely anti-witness.

  i justed wanted to tell you all what vile and hateful people you are..

  Kids in hospital, JW family still shuns.

  it was an awful weekend both of my kids were in the hospital with pneumonia.

  one had to stay the night and the other was treated in the er.

  it was extremely stressful and worrisome to say the least.

  Sorry to hear about this Mamalove...unfortunately, it is quite common among JW's. Both my adult children have zero contact with their grandparents since I left the Borg. Neither of the kids were DF'ed, DA'ed and one was never baptized, but that doesn't seem to matter. The only thing the kids ever hear is that "they know the phone number if they want to talk"...ahhh, true familial love. Hope your situation improves...

  this sunday morning tv preacher...

  is reading to the "flock" from the book of ezekiel....the only problem is he's adding a few things as he reads it....he just casually decided to plop "russia" and "iran" into the text, as he "directly" reads from the book of ezekiel to the flock....not sure if it's coincidence but the discourse was ubruptly ended on the tv, and they went to their normal nonsense.

  i think the guys name is david jeremiah....

  I think you are referring to the end times interpretation of Ezekial 38 regarding the attack of Gog of Magog against Israel. I believe David Jeremiah is associated with Calvary Chapel (who has always been a vocal critic of JW's). They believe that Ezekial 38 foretells the coming gathering of Russia and most Muslim nations in the Middle East in a battle against the modern State of Israel. As they launch their attack, Exekial's prophecy refers to God's immediate and harsh intervention against these nations resulting in their destruction. This is not the battle of Armageddon, but a prelude to the building of the 3rd Temple in Jerusalem and the appearance shortly after of the Antichrist. The basis for this correlation of Russia, Iran and several other Muslim nations is traced to the modern day roots of the nations and king mentioned in Ezekial 38.

  What is interesting is how this theory is being reinforced by the events currently occurring in the Middle East and the increasing animosity towards Israel by the radicalized Muslim countries and escalating rhetoric by Russia against Israel. Many will call it an interesting coincidence, but Believers will say it reinforces how close we are to the Tribulation and return of Jesus.

  On an aside, David Jeremiah is a very respected pastor, so I doubt he was yanked off the air for his reference to Russia and Iran...I am guessing technical or programming glitch.

  Was it the doctrine or the control that woke you up?

  even though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.

  i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.

  even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.

  I would say control first...nothing you did was ever enough. Certain doctrine nagged at me...especially the generation of 1914 not passing away. I always wondered, "what will we do if nothing happens before they do pass away?"...the rest is history.

  Disfellowshipping Rescinded!

  has anyone been successful in getting their disfellowshipping rescinded?

  i specifically do not mean getting reinstated.

  i want to know if anyone that was disfellowshipped was able to officially and through the congregation and/or the organization have their status as a "disfellowshipped person" changed without getting "reinstated" through the normal procedures?.

  I have heard of a very few DF'ings being appealed and rescinded, but it is very rare...after all, as Lasch mentioned, the proceedings are guided by Holy Spirit so they can't be wrong.

  anyway, so my other roommate is planning on moving out in january (spoke of the craziness that's been going on lately in an earlier thread).

  i asked him what his plans for his portion of the lease/rent were so that we could plan accordingly, and he told us that we could find someone to cover his portion for the remainder of the lease.
