My 70 year old parents have been sucked back in after a decade of mostly inactivity. They usually give a ride to an 80+ year old widow in their congregation. Recently my mother couldn't attend the meeting so they told me how they were careful and called the widow to make sure that she was not uncomfortable in receiving a ride with just my father. They have all known each other for over 40 years. They wanted to make sure they didn't bring any "reproach" on "j's name". So unbelievably controlled, makes me incredibly sad.

After leaving the Faith, do you celebrate all of the Holidays?
by Quarterback ini could never understand how some who don't follow some of the moral restrictions in the jw faith, are strong against celebrating the .
religious holidays such as christmas, and easter etc.. do you celebrate the holidays knowing some of their origins?.

After a few quiet years of not celebrating anything I slowly added a few holidays in, much to the surprise of my never a JW husband. I even bought him a flag for the house for his birthday one year.
After my child was born, it was full on celebrating everything. I love to experience his joy on the holidays, helps make up a bit for all the ones I missed.

Need help with Domestic Violence references in JW literature
by Namaste ini'm trying to help my friend's non-jw family deal with a domestic violence situation with their recently turned jw sister.
i didn't know it was going to turn into a dv situation (started as something else) so i scrounged up an old reasoning book and a few websites to give the family an idea of what they were dealing with in regards to jws.. now it is clearly dv and i do not have any current resources to help them reason with their family member.
i did a forum search and came up with a few threads, found one from 2001 that had a few wt/aw quotes but was hoping maybe someone had something else in the past 10 years where the jw literature references dv.

The familly has all the necessary outside resources and agencies that can provide assistance helping them but really want to know what they are dealing with from the JW perspective.
I've given them as much insight as I could but would like to show them the basically whacked out reasoning the society uses against people leaving these types of situations. Any new info in the books, WT or AW? Please copy and paste any info you think might be helpful, we are trying to save a young woman's life here and it is touch and go :(

Lawsuit Calls Yoga Chain a Cult
by leavingwt ina recent cnn headline.
lawsuit calls yoga chain a culta full investigation into the allegations against the dahn yoga centers on tonight's campbell brown, 8 et on cnn.
cottonwood, arizona (cnn) -- the cheering was raucous and the applause thunderous for a man who makes few public appearances.. as he made his way gingerly across a gravel park, where he had just dedicated a nearly 40-foot statue representing the "soul of the earth," a voice shouted out: "i love you, ilchi lee.".

I went to one of their introductory sessions after I stopped going to meetings but still was quite lost as to what really was my truth.
The whole session gave me the chills and I think in some ways it helped open my eyes about "controlling groups". I went with a bunch of co-workers and did my best afterwards to warn everyone that things there were not normal.

Before allowing my 15 year old on FB I would make sure I had full access to their account. I'm thinking that your brother and his wife would be the same too. There is no way she would be able to friend you.
I feel your pain, I am always looking for my nieces and nephew on FB and hoping one day they show up and I'll find out they've rebelled and are living a non-JW life and I can reconnect with them. Until then, I stalk the friend's lists of their parent's and other friends they know and keep hoping.

I don't get WE in my cable package, but I have Comcast and with the OnDemand feature I'm able to see the Secret Lives of Women series. I'll keep an eye out for this and just wanted to give a heads up to any other Comcast customers.

I bought this at a sale 2 weekends ago.
Doctor's Office - Medical Kit
http://www.toystogrowon.com/sku705
Stuff wasn't priced so I asked the guy if he would take $2 for it. I figured he didn't know that it retails for $50. He said yes and the kids have been playing with it constantly.

Just got a phone call...
by amama2six inmy oldest daughter (who is currently up in ct) just called to tell me my stepmother (wicked witch of the west) was in an accident yesterday evening.
she was riding a moped and crashed it into a parked car (don't ask me what an overweight 53 year old woman with bad knees is doing on a moped but whatever...supposed to save on the cost of gas or something).
anyway...she shattered her right leg and wrist in the accident (her good walking side) and apparently will never be the same.

Even though you've had a horrible time with her it is kind of you to reach out and help the family in some way. These days instead of sending flowers and such I tend to spend the money on grocery store gift cards and tell them that I hope it takes a little bit of the burden away from their difficult times. I send them to sick people, give them to grieving families after losing loved ones. I figure a little financial help is always welcome.

Ahh I love this show. If you ever get a chance to watch the behind the scenes shows I think it explains a bit better as to why they do this whole crazy thing. It's more than just a bunch of kids show, I think it must be absolutely mind boggling to have 6 of the same age 24/7. I have just one and he wears me out some days. I still watch because they keep it real. Watched an episode last night where Kate was just losing her mind over a small dresser knob and I just had to laugh. I've had those moments myself and could feel her pain and feeling of being completely overwhelmed that day. I don't think Kate has changed as a person, Jon knew exactly what he was getting and still loves her. I bet even more after watching her be mom to 8 kids.
