Getting Old

i'm getting near 68 and i can't do the things i used to do without some pain.. yesterday i worked on the lawn mower and i had to lift it onto the pinic table, wow!

i didn't know they made them so much heavier now.. today i'm replacing the brake pads on my 4x4 truck.

my back just won't hold up long enough to finish both wheels.

Shamus, I'm glad you made that post 'cause it gives me a better idea of what I'm facing, and how long it will take. (I fell 25 feet out of a tree in '98. One of the things that happened was my pelvis on the right side was torn completely off the spine. Now it's bolted back on. And I got a crushed L4 vertebra. I'll stop the list right there) And I've been wondering how long it would take for me to get back in some sort of reasonable shape.

I felt like I was about 35 when I went up that extension ladder (I was 53) and when I hit the ground I felt like I was 80. It's been a slooooooooow recovery. Now I feel like I'm about 69 (I'm 58), and I've not felt like myself ever since that day. Any way, maybe 8 years and I'll be about where you are, recovery wise.

republicans and democrats have distracted us with unending battles between haves and have-nots for decades.

perhaps that terror, not currency traders or al-qaeda, may explain the odd market decline after a tax cut that was supposed to make stocks soar.

Balderdash. This is the same tired old leftist pap we get every time there is talk of a tax cut. "How we gonna pay for it?" "We can't afford no tax cut."

You don't "pay" for a tax cut, nor is it proper to make reference to "affording" a tax cut. What you do is you don't allow that money-sucking octopus on the Potomac to confiscate all the money it wants from me and you and instead make it live within the means we give it through our represenatives and senators. It's called representative democracy. We tell 'em "this much and no more, we're keeping this much more money for ourselves - you go pound sand you profligate assholes."

That's how you do it.

I really like all the responses that recommend the slow fade, mainly because that's what I'd recommend. But then I'd recommend it only if you've got family or dear friends still in and you want to maintain contact with them.

I got all pissed off and took on the entire body of elders in my congregation right after I read the first issue of C of C. They were breathing down my neck about some alleged misdeeds of my own of which I was of course totally innocent (I don't care WHAT she said I did. I didn't even OWN a sofa that night.). So I used the necessary meetings as the perfect time to get confrontational with them instead of playing by their rules and talking about ME.

Screw their rules and their way of doing things. Who do they think they are, God? (Hmmmmmm. I guess on second thought they DO think that, don't they?)

What's The Worst "Encouragement" That You've Recieved From The Brothers?

after reading nina and sadie's experience, i couldn't help but appreciate hearing how the brothers are always trying to "encourage" ones.

And in a similar vein, I was told - in 1963 - not to go to college by Jack Pyle in Kingsport, TN. "Why would I build a shopping center right where a highway was going through? I'd just have to tear it down. Same idea. Why would you go to college when the end is so close? When I think of all the windows I didn't have to wash, or all the apartments I didn't have to clean, or all the shit I didn't have to carry for these last four decades all because I engaged in independant thinking when I was 18, I could just crap little green BBs.

The JW elders give such mind-numbingly stupid advice because they don't know any better. They are not trained for what they are doing. Recall that to be qualified to hang out a shingle as a therapist, a minimum of four years of college is required in most states; a Master's in Social Work, MSW, in a growing number of states. All that crap that's pumped into your head that Jehovah's Holy Spirit will tell you how to handle dicey personal problems is just that: crap. So, when faced with a real person with real problems, these jerk-offs don't know what to say.

You know, it just came to me. I wonder if someone could bring a suit against individual elders for practicing social work without a license? Don't you know that the first elder who had to sell his house to pay off legal damages would shut those jerks up right quick - all over the world.

Remnants of JWism

for me, i don't have "remnants".

i am still, i realize, about 90 percent jw.. however, i'm curious as to what other still have "left" from the org...for example, i am still politically neutral for the most part, and would not support any war and would rather die than take up arms.

this may be mostly my own pre-jw personality, but at this point in time, its so difficult to know what i am, even who i am..... do any of you still have (or maybe cling to, which may be true in my case) jw beliefs or tendencies, or have you gotten rid of them all?

Blondie, that's one I despised when I was a JW, and now that I'm out it never passes my lips.

This odious phrase was designed to keep the r&f in its place. "Undeserved" by fanny. I'm child of god, therefore I deserve every kindness, just like my physical children can expect it from me. After all, God is supposed to be higher than me, not lower.

Every little chance they get, the GB attempts to instill in it's followers how unworthy they are and how guilt ridden they should be.

I say to them "kiss my ass."
