Through everything... do you feel that you learned soemthing?
by anotheropenviewpoint ini am new to the board and have read countless gripes and pokes at "the organization" but i fail to find one interesting question.. in preface... i was disfellowshiped myself over 5 years ago.
in that time, i had done much searching, visited many churches and faithes.. going to some for as short as one session and some as long as 6 - 8 months.
after i felt my search was in vein i stopped attempting to go to these shurches all together.. i never forgot how to pray through.

Many Christians Preachers at war with Natural Science
by D wiltshire ini consider myself a christian and i think christian preachers who spout off against evolution and claim they are doing it to stay loyal to gods word.
are doing a disservice to the, christian witness to a scientifically knowledgeable generation.
christians should be knowledgeable about this subject before they openly call persons who have scholarship in these subjects, as incorrect.

Religion has never, as in NEVER, won an argument with science and it's not about to start now. In the end it will be shown that there IS NO argument between the two, only misunderstanding especially on the part of boneheaded religion. Religion should stick to a concern about the scientist and leave science itself strictly alone.

Demonizing the Watchtower
by IslandWoman inour 'beloved' old faith tried to teach us to hate other religions and all things that smacked of anything that was worldly.
they demonized all things outside of their religion.. are some of us in danger of carrying that same thinking over to our new lives as former jws?
could some here at first start out as an anti-cultist but in time allow this to become a 'religion' in itself?.

Or women, either for that matter. "Balanced thinking" is a JW code word for "think as we do." Surely you've noticed.
Slice it and dice it any way you like, IW, that's what it means to me and to a lot of exJWs who were paying attention to the technicalities of what was happening to them, try as you might to make of it a personal insult.

The WTB&TS is A Rare and a Snacket
by Francois inthe message is in the title.. but it is true.
cults do not use the vast amounts of money they have their rank and file produce for them to do good works in society, for their members, or for any other societally acceptable reason.
more than any other religion in "christendom" the cult, cult, of jehovah's witnesses is a rare and a snacket, or if you wish, a snare and a racket.

Home Schooling
by yxl1 inmy sister-in-law's husband was raised as a jehovahs witness in north yorkshire and was educated at home by his mother along with his 5 brothers and sisters.
i remember many years ago when it first became common knowledge, many brothers and sisters thought that this method of education was ideal for witnesses who wanted to remain separate from the world, but all the kids from our congregatation had a state education.
i guess my question is, was home education only limited to my in-laws husbands family, or were any of you educated at home?

We don't have to demonize the Watchtower. It came to us fully demonized.
And frankly, I'm not interested in any one, any where suggesting what does and does not constitute "balanced" thinking. We don't need no stinking balanced thinking, nor any ex-Dub playing at being a freelance elder.

The Attack on the USS Liberty
by seawolf ini know there has been discussion on this board about the attack on the liberty by israel.
there is a show tonight on the history channel called "history undercover, cover up: attack on the uss liberty" from 8-9 eastern and 7-8 central on june 18th.

""Do I want to spend energy researching this or do I not? I don't know yet.""
This isn't the only hot issue a person could get involved in. There seem to be an awful lot of facts backing up the idea that the attack on the Liberty was no accident. There are people here arguing what would be my side using the same evidence I would use. Thus, someone - likely me - would be redundant.
I'm wondering old friend, if you have read Bamford's latest book Body of Secrets (or whatever the name of it is. I disremember.) Have you?
And given the amount of aid the US provides Isreal ever year, and given the number of Jews in this country who support every dollar of that aid, and who support every act of the Isreali government, and given the reality that the Jewish lobby in this country is, to say the least, powerful, and given Isreal's desire to see the long, green American dollar continuing to be shipped to them by the boatload, WILL YOU AGREE that these two governments, if they wanted to cover up a deliberate attack on the Liberty could certainly do so if they desired? You bet your bippie they could and they would. Don't you realize that in any sort of armed conflict the rank and file US serviceman is expendable? Even an entire boat load of them? And of course, truth is the first casualty of war.
And the more arguments like the present one, with a maximum of dust being kicked up by the possible, the probable, the near-lie, the almost believeable and on and on the better the two governments involved like it. Let the arguments go on until the dust is so thick that it will never settle? These two governments DON'T WANT THE TRUTH TO BE KNOWN. If it were, the American people would likely cause, um, "trouble".
So why get involved in an argument that has no end? Can't think of a reason.
And, once again, have you read Bamford's book? I really hope you don't say "no" as that would be a huge disappointment.

P.S. The much balleyhooed History Channel program down here in South Georgia on the scheduled day and time did not air. I forget what it was, but it wasn't as advertised.

WoMD ... so where are they?
by Simon innow, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!
perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.
now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

I'm really getting tired of all this shit.
Does that mean that I can lock this interminable, anti-US thread?
I mean that by comparison, our little "free speech" thread of several weeks ago was nothing but a pimple on a private's butt compared to this gigantic continuing insult.
And since I'm as tired of this thread as you were of the free speech thread, I think - to be fair and equitable, and certainly not be playing favorites - this thread should be locked. Now.
