hi all, i was just wondering today, which seems to take up a lot of my time these days.. .

if god wants us to 'find' him, why doesn't he make it a little easier??.

it seems to me that there are a lot of very 'good' people who have their own religion or people like myself who try to 'find' him but are not willing to blindly have 'faith', and i'm sure there are a lot of you here who are like me in that respect.. .

So, JW72, "God has and is letting you believe that...". And AGuest has the "freedom" to say that, too. He has the "freedom" to call a sow's ear a silk purse if he wants, but that doesn't make it so.

Actually, if the concept of free will has any meaning at all, you'd kinda expect that God would "let" you believe whatever you wanted, huh?

I suppose our friend here must actually be a Presbyterian masquerarading as a JW if he thinks God is "letting" you believe what your free will dictates.

Freedom really isn't free if it's conditional - like the love of JWs - is it? And a person must stop and really consider what he's saying as opposed to letting his knee jerk if he wants to wax philosophical.

first of all, my apologies... i goofed in my first attempt to comment on this.. the recent thread by bibleexaminer prompted me to comment on how the wts sometimes seeks to disseminate something ``through the back door,'' i.e.

verbally via its circuit or disttict overseers rather than face the embarassment or other negative consequences of mitigating or altering an official position in print.

usually, step one in this process is to cease any reference to the obsolescent teaching, counting the rank and file's short memory span.

What you describe is exactly to the letter the way that politicians handle the electorate. Exactly.

And we are to avoid the mere "appearence" of evil? While the governing body acts exactly like the cheapest, sleaziest political operative from the most typical ward political machine?

I want to be there when the governing body gets its karmic reward. Actually, I think the GB does not believe in any God but money. If they believed that they would one day have to face God with these behaviors, I don't think they'd engage in it.

i was always impressed with the way that william barclay could encapsulate large and very complex issues into, not just a simple form ( are you listening duns!

) but with a sincere purity attached.

i was honored to meet him when i was very young man in my university years and though a convinced atheist at the time who actually shoved socialist newspapers at people in my local high street, i could not ignore the genuine tranquillity that accompanied this wonderful personality.

Actually, I did all my Gandhi reading years ago. First I read "Gandhi the Man" by Eknath Eswaran. It's sort of the lazy man's Gandhi biography. Then I saw the movie. After that, I read many Gandhi books, including his autobiography. Also:

The application of Gandhi's concepts ahimsa and satyagraha by the world would transform it overnight. So would the application of the sermon on the mount, the Tao te Ching, and the Gettysburg Address. It just ain't gonna happen.

Human beings are too fond of clinging to their hatreds for that.

how many fallen leaders have claimed they "didn't know" about the evil acts they are accused of sanctioning?.

apparently field marshall herman goering was one.

in the movie nuremberg, he is shown confidently proclaiming at his trial that he knew nothing of the atrocities committed in the third reich.

I wonder if there's anything the GB does that isn't steeped in hypocrisy?

Pets and the Watchtower

my cars cheap cd player is on repeat playing track 9, bob dylan singing tomorrow night during my hour long commute to a job not suitable for a 58 yr old man.

returning home the same tune plays just short of distortion, a funeral dirge for wessie.. tomorrow night.

will it just be another memory, .

I have an eleven year-old Australian Shepherd that's just now beginning to slow down. I think she's got another seven or eight years, but already I'm dreading it.

Spiritual maturity means "wisely" avoiding pets? You know, I want to be there when the JW leadership gets its karmic rewards, don't you? There will be some heavy-duty explaining to be done.

You know, it occurs to me that the WTB&TS acts as if it doesn't really believe in any God but money. What else could explain their behavior?

JESUS CHRIST, AGuest, the Master made his points with "a word" and you carry on with diarrhea of the mouth (or fingers, as the case may be). You have no economy of expression at all.

JW72 - Matters not, my friend. The fact that you have begun to search for God is proof positive that He has already found you, first, and has begun to speak to you in the small, still voice. All you need to do now to obtain full and final and satisfactory personal evidence of His presence within your mind is to "be still and know."

Help With Reference?

i'm sure you remember the statement in the wt that goes something like - the organization of jws is the only channel of communication that god is using...words to that effect.. would any of you who have the exact quote and its citation please email it to me when you can?

Hi all and thanks very much.

These quotes are hitting all around the target, but not hitting it. Notice they all refer to the channel as an established fact. The one I'm after is the scripture that makes the claim itself. That is, the assertion that the governing body is the only channel of communication that god is using today.

Come on FRED HALL. Don't you want to help us find where the organization sets itself up as gods channel of communication? MadApostate? Duns? Or is tearing down all you guys do?
