I've taken to sitting in the lotus position as in poppers' avatar for 20 mins each day contemplating my breathing. That to me is caring for my spiritual needs, its also very energizing - marvellous for giving one a straight back too - a win win situation

Where do you go for your spiritual needs?
by Blindbutnowisee ini never was baptize as a jw.
i use to study with them for years, i even went as for as becoming a unbaptize publisher.
i gave up being a publisher because i did not feel genuine in my efforts to preach.

Affirmative arguments for the non-existence of Jesus
by WhatSexRU ini was just reading a thread on this forum called saviors of the world?.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/136105/1.ashx.
that thread discussed similarities between the various saviors, or messiahs that are said to have walked the earth, most of them appearing long before jesus supposedly emerged.

Egypt Outlaws all Female Circumcision
by Rabbit inegypt has somewhat joined civilization.
with all the misogynistic practises in the middle east already, taking away a woman's right to actually enjoy sexual relations, is barbaric and pitiful.
their 'lot' in life in one (1) more country just got a little better.

Interesting article here
http://www.culturalsurvival.org/publications/csv/csv-article.cfm?id=88
Female circumcision is a rite of passage among the Maasai that marks change from childhood to adulthood. Though some groups such as the Christian Church, educators, and some non-governmental organizations have made an effort to abolish this practice, the Maasai, according to my mother, are stubborn. She says, “Female circumcision is our culture. Why should we be forced to abandon it when we were born into it? Abandoning our culture would annoy our ancestors. It would bring a curse to the entire community.”

The Eden Story
by choosing life inin the garden of eden, god supposedly didn't want adam and eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.
he preferred they remain innocent and incapable of deciding for themselves what is right or wrong.. along comes satan who wants them to eat of this tree and says they will become like god, knowing good and bad for themselves.
he says they will be like god.. as we all know, they chose to eat and find out what they were missing.

At the moment I'm going through a phase wherein I 'm seeing the the Eden story as humans theorizing about their situation and how to make sense of it.
I'm sure I've read all this somewhere, probably here, lol.
So in theory the garden of eden represents a time when humans were very secure in nature/their world, then they were confronted with the evolutionary leap to becoming human. they became self conscious which is represented by the issue of nakedness.
Satan for me represents the growing awareness that they could use their minds as a tool to think and choose and theorise about life, but at the same time there is a sense of ambivilance.
How am I doing so far
God represents their angst and also the direction they want to head in.

I also think they are playing cruel mind games. Sometimes I feel quite sorry for the dubs - bumped into a few over the weekend and I was very struck by the innnocent wide eyed look they have.

The article you posted prompted me to do some research. Take a look at this article
http://www.cid.harvard.edu/cidinthenews/articles/Sciam_0301_article.html
For example, a high incidence of disease can alter the age structure of a country's population. Societies with high levels of child mortality tend to have high levels of fertility: mothers bear many children to guarantee that at least some will survive to adulthood. Young children will therefore constitute a large proportion of that country's population. With so many children, poor families cannot invest much in each child's education. High fertility also constrains the role of women in society, because child rearing takes up so much of their adult lives.

openmind
As a closet fader I have an ongoing disconnect with three areas in particular:
I tell the truth to myself and others.
I experience oneness, rather than separation.
I participate in spiritual community on an ongoing basis.
It seems to me that as long as a person is hiding who they are, (that would be me) that these areas will not be fully developed and experienced.
I agree openmind -. I suppose the important thing is to be oneself to the extent that one can.

I participate in spiritual community on an ongoing basis.
This participation is some form of religious organization or not. It may be simply a group of people who relate in a spiritual way by practicing loving behaviors.JWD for me - wonder if I could give myself 5 points for that - suppose I'd have to participate more and be more loving. apart from JWD I don't have a spriritual community life, but I'm not complaining.
