Thanks for the replies. There were some good points. It maybe on another thread, but it seems like witnesses say that they are the only neutral party, that no other religion teaches their followers that they should not go to war and kill another man, another man that may be of the same religion. Iv done a little searching around for that topic, seems I was reading somewhere that the 7th Day Advents and I think the mormons do the same? but they say its ok to serve in the hospital.

Went to the bookstudy this morning. The study talked about False religion and war and how other religions are killing each other and also JW's for not going to war. There was many comment of how many early JW's served time or were executed for not going to war. Now, there are many questions I have about the JW doctrine, blood, DFin, dates, just to name a few. But, is this not one thing the JW's are doing right? Not going to war?

How many happy JW marriages do you know of?
by Bonnie_Clyde injust reading frequent flyer miles on the subject of feeling guilty for having a happy marriage with a non-jw.. in our congregation which i haven't attended for about a year, i can only think of two or three who seem to be happy.
of course, i don't know what happens behind closed doors, but i know of several who admit they are unhappy.
i wrote out a long list of couples who have divorced over the last 20 years--including three elders (one is on his second divorce).

I know for sure of 1. My parents. Even though they may have an argument here and there, they are truly happy.
But, in my opinon why there are so many unhappy marriages(not just in the org. but everywhere) is because people get married too young. I will say the witnesses somewhat encouage this. Not so much getting married young, but if young people are going to date(which ALL young people are) they should have the view of marriage in mind. I set my mind in the total opposite direction. I was dating this one girl a few years ago and someone asked if they thought we gonna get married anytime soon, they were almost shocked when I told em I wasnt sure if I was going to get married to this girl. WHen they asked why we were dating then, I said UMM, to get to know each other. How else do you find out if you want to marry if dont get to know them.
Now, as some people mature faster then others, many of these 20yr olds(including myself) are NOT adults and still have changes to go through. Which is why after a year or 2 of marriage, every bit of infatuation as left and the couple finds out that it actually takes work to make a relationship work, which is at this point where many want out as it wasnt what they thought it was.

No DC next year, last DC?
by doinmypart ina relative said there may not be dcs next year.
he said on the last day of this year's dc when the final speaker goes through all the reports & experiences, the speaker said next year's dc have not been planned yet and the gb will make an announcement later this year.
did anyone else hear a similar announcement?

Yea, I was at one a couple of weeks ago. They said the same thing. But, they do say that year. I think they stoped giving the dates of the next DC quite a few years ago.

144,000
by TIMBOB inthis is not so much a question as it is to make sure that i am thinking correctly.
the witnesses believe that 144,000 would rule as kings and priests in heaven and the end would not come until all of the 144,000 were in heaven, correct?
so, if this were the case and the witnesses kept a census of how many partook each year and are still doing that today, that means that back in the early 1900s they must of known that all 144,000 were not yet in heaven.

Thanks fo replies. Guess my thinking was a little wrong on what the witnesses beleived with all of that. It clears up the confusion though.

Again, if this is true, then why would there have been even a consideration of predicting the end in 1914,15,25,75?
This just kind of popped in my head and I am just seeing if this makes any sense to anyone else? -

I woud very much be on the train for that.

Do You Approach Disfellowshipped JWs?
by R.F. infor those of you active jws, though mentally inactive of course, do you you approach the disfellowshipped?.
there was a disfellowshipping announced in my congregation last week and i had the mind to talk to her.
there is also a dfed brother that lives on my street.

I wouldnt say I would go out of my way. But, when I see someone who is DFed. I say hi. I have a friend right now, I still call him every now and then to make sure he is doing ok. I even invited him up(he lives couple hours away) if he ever wanted to hang out.
In my mind, even though I still go to meetings, I beleive DFing is outright WRONG. Yes, I do agree there needs to be disipline. But to shun people, how is that going to encourage anyone?
I'll try to make a long story short.
My sister was DFed when I was about 11. Of course I followed the rules to the T. She was not living with us and so, I basicly never talked to her. It was almost as if I did not have a sister. Anyhow, she was DFed for about a year or longer, then she got the meeting with the elders who told her that she was going to be reinstated. She came to our house on that same day(it was on a sunday), she told us that the announcment was going to be on thursday. We were with out a doubt so overjoyed.
On that wednesday she died(the day before the announcment was supposed to be made). She had taken some headache medicine that had some chemical she was deathly alergic to that she was unaware that was in it. Words can not even begin to say how I felt.
Anyways, a few years later, there was sister that had been DFed had started to come back to the meetings. She had a baby. It was then I began noticing that people were holding her baby for her, even talking to her(just a few words, but still "saying a greeting to her"). All of this was taking place inside the Kingdom Hall. I was pissed. Not about people trying to help her out. It was the fact that all of this was OK. Reasoning being, well she has a baby and needs help. I could not beleive it. A few years ealier I did not so much as say hello to my own flesh and blood. The last year of my sister's life, I missed out on. All because it was against the rules.
From there and then on, I said F*** the rules. I'll talk to whomever I want.
It kind of feels good to talk about this. Thanks for the post and letting me vent a little.

607 to 1914 calculation question
by bluebell inis there any culture that actually used years of 360 days length?
if so, surely there would still be some kind of leap year to correct the calendar, why is that not taken into account?
i'd never thought about it when i was a dub because you're not supposed to think!

Hello all,
New to the board here. Still an active JW. But, as I have grown and to make a long story short, I have wanted to do some independent research.
I have a question for Leolaia. When taking into account the 365/364 days a year, you speak of 1 Enoch 82 and 85. Is this a Bible book that is not in the NWT. Just wondering where this info is comming from?
Also, as I have said that I am new, this info maybe on another thread, so I am sorry if this repetitive for you. IF it is, if you could just point me to the correct thread.
