People like those in the Society and dyed in the wool dubs don't like to have ancient history pointed out to them. They just want you to swallow whole the tripe that comes out of the Society's publications. (i.e. KINGDOM MINISTRY SEPTEMBER 2007 QUESTION BOX) That is an oxymoron in itself Question Box, you aren't allowed to question the society, all their supposed studies are nothing but scripted tales of doom and gloom and how great the "annointed" are. What a bunch of bull., It is not surprising that so many don't want to have to think for themselves then they would be without anchor in this world and have to actually stand on their own merits and abilities and thinking ability.

Is the story of Jesus copied from another religion?
by blueviceroy ini have been doing a lot of religious research and one of my favorite storys seems to be a retelling of an older story.
it seeme that the story of jesus is predated by the story of horus the egyptian sun diety, the similarities between the two are remarkable and i found it casts a shadow on some of the more beloved belirfs of this country.
i find it a little disturbing that so many people i know put so much faith in religion.

When Meetings Went Overtime, What Did You Do?
by minimus ini used to start looking at the clock behind me, look at my watch, look at the speaker or person handling the part and give obvious facial expressions expressing my dissatisfaction.
it was a pet peeve of mine!
a few times when i had the last part in a service meeting, i'd say, rather sternly,"this originally was a 15 minute part but because we are running out of time, we will dispense with (whatever).".

Were The Elderly & Infirm Truly Given Assistance In Your Hall?
by minimus inour congregation had a number of elderly ones who regularly complained that no one ever helped them.
since the elders didn't really want to be responsible for them, they decreed that the family should help out first.
fair enough.

Nope, they would only help the Pioneers and that very little. They didn't care about destitute, the poor, those suffering from mental or physical problems. Oh sure they would act all caring at the meeting but no meeting no care if you know what I mean.

How many of you had book studies held in your home?
by FreedomFrog inmy ex and i did for several years in our new home.
i was excited at first because that meant we were "good" dubs.
after about 6 months someone stuck their finger in our candle we had burning in the bathroom and splashed wax all over our new bathroom wall.

We had the BS in our house at one time, and never again, No kids my childrens ages, just old people, (60+) no one ever helped set up or take down and the FS on Saturday was the same way until I told them no more Saturdays at my house, it just wasn't going to happen anymore. They didn't undertand why, but then the didn't need too, they just needed to not show up. Some of the attendees always showed up 30 + minutes in advance and needless to say got in the way. On goody night it was mostly always our goodies everyone helped themselves too. The only good thing about it was we didn't dilly dally around with the paragraphs. We got thru them and then did the bible reading for the week and a lot of the times, we were able to finish the 3-4 chapters of the weekly bible reading. Now no way ever again will I allow a BS to be held in our house.

What was your book study like?
by reneeisorym ini remember going to this lady's house who insisted on it being boiling hot!
it didn't matter if it was winter or summer -- she either refused to turn on the air conditioning or had the heater on full force!
my dad always hated it because he had to wear his coat while he conducted even though it was 90 degrees.

Only one was ever really interesting, and in that one I for some reason even though not baptized was the go to guy. The rest were agonizingly boring beyond belief. Now adays I just sit there and don't respond just waiting for the time to be over. They are useless in my book (no pun intended). There is no thought process going on or people would realize just how ridiculous they were. It seems to the Jdubs that everything every written about in the bible had to be about them. And they call the GB discreet and faithful, the arrogance is unbelieveable.

If there was a cure for 'narrow minded ignorance'................
by ThomasCovenant inwould you force people (those that you consider narrow minded and ignorant of course) to take that cure?.
if not, then what would be the point of the cure or even wishing for such a cure?
those 'afflicted' would be blissfully unaware of their condition and would never take it voluntarily.. thanks.

Infant/young child baptism = infant/young child molestation of the mind., talk about capturing young minds and totally inculcating them in the borg.!! I have told my children if they want to get baptized in whatever religion at least wait until you are the same age as Jesus was "30" that way you will be mature enough to make sure this is what you want; and if nothing else you will be an adult and hopefully making an adult decision. Don't let a publishing company capture you!!!!1

witless, you are so right it's fear, fear of this, fear of that, fear of displeasing brother and sister some if we don't wear the right clothing etc., fear of being marked for having an opinion. Fear of the elders. It is just a religion (and not a very good one) that is totally based on fear.

Did you ever choke while offering prayer?
by Jourles inof all the times i was called upon to say prayer, i only remember choking once - but it was such a big choke i totally embarrassed myself for days on end afterwards.
and this one time wasn't even at the kh, it was in a home right before we were going to pre-study the wt.. there were roughly 3 elders, their wives, and some other close friends of mine in the living room.
i'd say there were around 10 of us total.

I hate being called on to pray, i can't think of anything more useless to do, what I feel inside is no ones business but mine and I damn well ain't going to share those thoughts with anyone else. You pray and for what, you never have anyone talk with you, or answer you, so it seems to be a useless endavor for a person to be involved in.
It's kind of like you being a friend of Jehovah, oh sure, that kind of friend you can't talk to or with, you can't do anything with, have a cup of java with, a beer, a hamburger or whatever. How do you have someone as a friend when you have to do everything their way or they won't like you or your actions (which aren't in accord with their wishes). Thats not a friend by any definition. Just a bunch of hula baloo.
