Can a JW be a Notary Public?
by Wordly Andre ini am not sure how it is in other states but in california you have to raise your right hand and take the oath of office, in that oath you swear or affirm to the best of your ability, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the united states and the laws of the united states so help me god.
is there a conflict for jw's on this?
jw do not serve in public offices, a notary by law is a public office, due to the fact that you swear to protect and defend the constitution you are saying that you are allies with the united states.

by fifi40 inmy ex is a jw (as previously mentioned) and is against our son going to see the new movie, despite admitting that he has witness friends who will happily go and see it........oh and he also has witness friends that would dob their brother into the elders for going to see it.. i have just had a bit of a heated debate about it with him (our son is 14, nearly 15) and i just wondered if any of you have good sound reasoning for what is a 'matter of conscience' for these brainwashedd poo brains!!!!!.
help.........warlock can you just wave a magic wand or something............ a mother doing battle with the force...............a brain numbing, mind control force at that.
seriously folks though any gems you have would be greatly appreciated.

when I started reading the books I tried to tell my mom that it was no different than Snow White or the Little Mermaid.. it was not very helpful tho because then she just got rid of those movies, but It might work for you.

..new things in my area...
by all_along_the_watchtower inhey, im not sure if anyone knows of this, but recenetly (well actually like about 3-4 months ago) jw's in my area have been told to create emergency preparation kits for themselves or thier familys, and to give the elders phone numbers of non-witness relatives for emergency contacts.. also one thing that they've just started doing is the elders are going around giving "sheparding calls" to everyone in the congragation and asking them questions such as *( they said this from the platform) "what do you find the hardest about being in the truth" or something along those lines.. i think that just might be a local thing, but it is strange and over the many years they have never really done any thing like that.. and the emergency thing i thik is strange too.. maybee they think a disater will happen here.... just thought i would mention this 'cause i find it a little strange.. well not that strange, their always on to something new and crazy...

they did that here, I thought that it was just here, we had a bad ice storm a few months ago, mom needed my number to give to the elders because I live about 2 hours from her.

Why did you get married?
by pratt1 inas a young dub in the 80's me along with many of my friends got married, either in our teens or early 20's.. in my area, if you were over 25 and not married, it was percieved that something was wrong with you or you were probably engaging in sex with a "worldly" person.. by why did so many of us feel the need to get married so young?.
i believe it was because of one of three reasons.. 1. you wanted to get out of your parets home.. 2. you had already gone "too far" with you girlfriend or boyfriend.. 3. you were just an average normal teenager and you knew this was the only way you could legally have sex.. .
was this true in your area?.

I married out side the religion :) we lived together for a year and a half before we got married so none of the reasons work for us, we got along well, we were happy, it just seamed like time we had been together for almost 2 years.. we have been married 2 years now, he is wonderful :)

On fading
by lola28 inso i was thinking about this today and wanted to see what you guys think about fading?
for a long time i thought that this was the way to go especially if you wanted to maintain certain relationships be it with family or friends but lately i'm not so sure that fading is the best way to go and here is why.. the stress of having to go to meetings is some times overwhelmingthe amount of time you waste going to meetings when you no longer believe is time you will never get back, time that could have been spent doing something that you really do love, life is short why waste it in the hall?
the end results are the same if you are dfed, daed or fade.

I love point number 4. My sister is df, as am I. but she will go to the memorial with my mom sometimes and is not very clear about if she is not a jw because she lives with her bf who she is not married to, or if it is because she doesn't want to be a jw anymore. I think it is very mean to my mom, because it gets her hopes up and then crushes them. I am very firm with my mom so that she knows that I do not want to be a jw anymore. I would hate to hurt her more than I already have.

Do You Still Act Like A Jehovah's Witness?
by prophecor ini'm not very far removed, any longer from how i presented myself as a witness, and how i do today.
i'm usually polite, cordial, respectful of others, even those who i may have very little regard for or those who on a regular basis, piss me off.
i work very hard not to use foul language.

I think that I act more like how they wanted me to than I did when I was in. I don't feel the need to show so much skin, and I still do all the nice things that they preach, just try not to act how they act. But the theory is good, just not the way they put it into practice.

Does JV risk bankruptcy?
by TheNaturalStep inas i have heard they had to pay really much cash to those who sued them "silent lamb".
so my question is, are there any other individuals or groups who are about to sue jv?
and if so could that cause jv to go bankrupt.

I don't think the FBI could get their database because it is protected by the confessional seal, or whatever the jws call it. Because it was confessed to them in their role as "Gods Rep's".

by Mindyemt ini was sexually abused as a child and the witness's accepted it and helped me granted they didn't go into depth about it with me but they do not cover it up they just dont like things publicized not every rape or sexual abuse is put on the news so why should a witness being raped be put on the news they are private people why not let it be

That is very sad :(( I think it varies, I know of a brother in the cong I am from that is in prison now for molesting his little girl, but he wasn't an elder and didn't have any family in the truth, also there are some states that have passed laws requiring it to be reported, but in some states there is a loophole.
