COMMENTS YOU WILL NOT HEAR AT THE WT STUDY - Maintain Joy In Times of Trouble
by Mary ini'm doing the comments for blondie this week as i believe she and her hubby are on the road.
-read isaiah 63:9, 10.. once again i ask: if he feels so distressed and hurt, then why doesn't he do something about it?
at times, hannah was so discouraged that she would weep and not eat.

Thanks Mary!
This article basically encourages JWs to maintain their joy by pretending nothing has happened. Feeling discouraged, then do more of what brings you joy...meeting and service. Well, what if meetings and service doesn't bring you joy?! Well, then pray to Jehovah that the meeting and service bring you joy. "You got them going in circles"
And the paragraph about Jehovah feeling pain and his servants hurting him....pah-Lease.
As a kid, I asked what still had to be proved because Job did it already and so had sister-really-really-old. I was told we all had to do it too.
Happy Day

Volunteering
by Quillsky innow that you, as a former jw, have a few evenings and some weekend time freed up, and "charity" is no longer a dirty word, ........ do you do any kind of volunteer work?.
i'm seriously thinking about it..

I volunteer on a regular basis. In addition to being very rewarding, you begin to see people as people and not moving objects that will be done away with because they do not attend meetings at the KH. It really helps you put things into perspective.

A question about marriage in the organization
by dgp inthis post was motivated by another thread, namely.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188552/1/onereason-for-a-gentleman-fader-to-stay-reasonably-associated.
this thread makes reference to the fact that a 40 something brother has a real chance with twenty-something and less sisters.

I've seen this so many times it makes my stomach turn. The girls are looking for a daddy and the men are looking for a toy. I've asked JW men about this and their answer has been that young girls look up to them but you have to prove yourself to women your own age. In other words less work.
And yes, this is not un-common in the midwest. And the parents are typically all for it. I had older JWs interested in me when in my early 20's and I was grossed out. But then again, I attended college at an early age so that early exposure provided more of a normal view of life and relationships. But then again, thats probably why I'm still single...LOL

Did you know anyone on disability who pioneered?
by lepermessiah inanother thread got me thinking about this:.
in the area i live in, its not uncommon for people to be "ill" enough not to be able to hold a job, but they still regular pioneer.. when i was younger, someone tried to hook me up with this girl.. i called her and we chatted for a while.
i asked her what she did for work - "oh, well i am a pioneer".

If you're over 50 and collect disability but appear healthy, I'll cut you some slack. But if you are in your 20s or 30s, run marathons, in a basketball or volleyball league, paint houses on the side...no excuse. I've confronted a few people and like someone else mentioned they justify it because it allows them to pioneer. They've asked me who am I to question their doctor...which kind of shut me up. Thats when I wanted to start calling and report folks.
Whats worse is that most JWs see NOTHING wrong with it.

Yes, I know of several and it has always irritated me. These very same people do all types of physical activity on a regular basis in addition to pioneering but can't work. I even know a few that live out-of-state and collect disability in a different state.
I've actually been tempted to report several of them especially when those of us that work are asked to pay for their meals, entertainment, etc.
Can you say...scam?

C.O. Talked about the fact that we may die in this system
by life is to short inbeing that my husband is still going to most of the meetings, i tied into the meeting sunday to see what the co had to say on his last day at the hall.
one thing i found interesting is that we may die in this system.
he said when he first learned the "truth" he just knew for sure that the system would end before he was baptized and he was so stressed out from it.

The talk sounds VERY similar in theme to one Splane (GB) gave at the district convention this past September. Splane said that God will not adjust his timetable to accommodate the ills of mankind and that we need to understand that we may die in this system. Of course, he gave the discourse in california....maybe thats why the west coast is so liberal...they know whats up.

Did You Know A Lot Of "Very Intelligent" JWs?
by minimus inin my lifetime of knowing jehovah's witnesses, i recognized very few as being extremely intelligent.
most seemed to just go along with the program.. i noticed we have a number of "very intelligent" exjws here..

Based on the posts, some are confusing university education with intelligence. I know a lot of unintelligent MBAs. I've met very few intelligent JWs and they are extremely liberal, to point that I used to wonder why they were JWs (even when I was a believer).
Also, I knew Illingworth...and yes, he does carry himself as one of much importance and is a very confident speaker.

Can JW's run the New System without worldly people?
by moshe inhttp://www.history.com/content/life_after_people/about-the-series.
i get a chuckle when i watch that show on tuesday nights as it portrays what would happen the the world, if people should all dissapear.
since jw's are only 2/10% of the world's population and almost zero% in many countries the infrastructure would rapidly decay.

No...and they are not being very practical either. Their focus is just on getting into the New System and then letting Jehovah take care of things from there.
The recent earthquake in Haiti should have made some JWs think about the cleanup effort of the dead and general destruction that will be required. I don't think they are truly prepared for what they are preparing go...sounds easy on paper.
