Typically the older pioneers did not go out on the weekends. However, it seems that if you were single and/or under a certain age, you were looked down upon if you were got our time during the week. They claimed that that pioneers were suppose to upbuild the congo and couldn't do that if they didn't go out on the weekends. And if you didn't go out on holidays...ha, then you were really a horrible pioneer.

Wasn't there info lately about if a holiday is no longer viewed as being pagan or associated with pagan worship then its a personal choice? Most dubs today don't celebrate Mother's Day because its was forbidden in the past.
There hasn't been any recent info on the holiday but based on the principles in more recent articles, participating in this holiday really is a personal choice although the robots in the local congregations may say otherwise. Truth is, most JWs don't read their own literature. They just do whatever the BOE and pioneers tell them to do.

All the JW's I know are OVERJOYED!!! I received a number of text messages and calls from across the country and everyone was very happy and relieved. No one I know is planning to use it for service or personal study. University courses and recreation were at the top everyone's list. One friend told me that with the extra free night, she will now have time to get MBA...LOL

Maybe lower time requirements for regular and auxiliary pioneers. Maybe they will openly allow the celebration of certain holidays.

I posted a question on yahoo answers, in regards to the book study arrangem
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini posted the question last night, to try to get some jw's take on the matter.
of course most of them are really showing how brainwashed they are, by quoting the letter almost word for word, gas prices rising etc.. i personally feel that its wonderful, as my parents are getting older and they've been doing 3 meetings a week since the early 1960's.
the way i posted the question, i kind of insinuated that i was a jw struggling with the loss of the meeting.

Reading some of the responses remind me of how so many of them just blindly follow what they are told. They say the change has Jehovah's approval, but how do they know that? Maybe he still wants the BS on a different night?

If The Society REALLY Cared About Gas Prices They'd Implement Program Now!
by minimus inthey are full of sh*t!
if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.
since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

this is just another American Religion
I realized this several years ago when the donation arrangement for the literature started in the States and other wealthy countries but not in the poorer countries. In poorer countries they even had to pay for their tracts that were then placed for free in the ministry. I felt so bad that when I preached in poorer countries, I never charged the folks for the literature. The american JWs would say the literature isn't free, the householder has to pay for it. Then I would ask why, folks don't pay for it in the States. The local JWs were surprised to learn about this arrangement in the States. They would say "But we are the poor ones." Several years later the donation arrangement made it to that country.

I almost went to the KH to hear first hand but the audio provided by SpyAmI was sufficient for me. Oh yeah, I've heard from several folks that are still in and they are OVERJOYED!!! They see it as real blessing and that the FDS really understand their needs.

News Flash! Letter from Governing Body announcing meeting schedule changes
by mizzarco inthe watchtower meeting (this congregation meets on sat) that i just listened to via phone conference was cut 10 minutes short to have a letter read to all the congregation.
here are the highlights:.
- the governing body realizes that the pressures of this system of things are getting heavier on his people.. - just like the governing body of the 1st century, we do not want to add additional burden to you either.

Great work SpyAmI!!! Now I can say that I heard the announcement.
It doesn't sit well me that now that prices have risen in affluent lands the GB sees a need to make an adjustment to the meeting schedule. Several years ago, when there were ongoing transportation strikes in several poor countries with utterly ridiculous gas prices and with currency basically bottomed out every other week, there was not an adjustment to the meetings. What's up with that?
