Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude. - Denis Waitley

Why JWs avoid sharing in toasts vs. wikipedia
by song19 inso i stubled on the following image on gbletters site.
you have to love how the watchtower uses circular reasoning quoting from older watchtower articles to reinforce their points.
i thought i would have a look myself to see what the toast signifies and its history this was very surprising.

A number of years ago, I saw a documentary that included a piece on the origin of toasting. Ever since, I've been toasting away. I always did anyway, but after that I did it guilt free. The JWs focus on whatever is needed to prove their point.

I watched the whole thing. All I can say is, I hope some in attendance can see through it all. Non-JWs in attendance will no likely be turned off with the first scene. The elder is criticized because he wants to help the poor and needy? It has become a small trend for more and more JWs out this way to start getting involved with community work. Maybe other areas are having the same trend.
The drama made no sense. It was not based on biblical events but yet the cast is dressed in biblical clothing. Wow...can't I used to really buy into this stuff.

Ironing (Pressing) Clothes ... Do You?
by compound complex ingreetings, ironers hard-pressed,.
i'm pressing a white linen jacket in preparation for a wedding this weekend.
it got me to thinking about a topic little (if ever) discussed in polite society, such as yours.. do you do drip-dry?.

I drip dry quite a few things...also love using the clothesline in the summer...but just like ex-nj-jw, I must have that crisp look.
I don't mind ironing. I put on some nice music and ironing becomes my quiet time.Same here. I think we might be related.

Welcome to the board.
It's just too much for me to digest but I can't quit investigating the whole thing.. Everything I have ever been taught has now been questioned.
You're not alone. I was so overwhelmed at first that I thought I was going crazy. Question everything, eventually you'll figure out what really matters.

JWD- Some of the Best Supportive Discussion I've Seen
by flipper init certainly is a diverse board we have here , isn't it ?
we all come from different backgrounds, walks of life, and had different experiences in growing up as children into adolescence.
so it should suffice to say, that we will all have a variety of takes on various issues that come up on the board.

I was elated when I accidentally found this board. Lurking for several months help me realized I wasn't crazy, literally. The discussions on this board have been of great mental and emotional support.
We all have different needs and for some this board is enough to help us process our JW issues. However, there are definitely a few folks on this board that could use professional help and folks don't hold back from letting them know that.

Elders Appreciation Day?
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inhi everyone, here i come, "from roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.".

This video gave me a good laugh. I remember those days. There was a yearly elder appreciation dinner in every congregation I've been in. It was by invitation only. of course, and even the talent was not allowed to stay for the whole evening. A similar event would happen each year for pioneers and in one congo it included various families coming and presenting gifts to the pioneers. The gifts were actually good.

No Girls Scout Cookies for you!
by independent_tre ineven though, i was raised in a witness home, i never remember hearing that girl scout cookies were a no-no.
and even though i've only been baptized for a few years, i don't remember any specific admonishment of these sweet treats.
but recently at work a jdub coworker made it a point to remind me that jw's do not buy or eat girl scout cookies.

In my addled memory, Girl/Boy Scouts were alllllllllllllll wrong, so no way would we support them. I never once tasted the delectable "Samoa" until a couple of years ago.
Same here. It was a big no-no. I never had a Girl Scout cookie until about a year ago.

How did you handle facing the reality of death?
by song19 infor those raised or who got the truth at a young age, how have you been able to handle the reality that you are in fact, eventually, going to die in this system?.
for me, this was a real hard reality check.
as a witness, my entire life i was convinced that i would see armageddon, that i wouldnt grow old and die.

Song,
It hit me like a ton of bricks. There were times when I wished I was still in the lie and living the fantasy. The reality of death consumed me for several weeks. It was pretty bad. Honestly being on this board was very theraputic and helped me get on with life. Its so easy to fall into a stuper when you find out so much of your life is a big, fat lie. After I accepted the fact that one day I will die, I started living. It not easy, its definitely a journey.

So are the aboriginals and native americans going to live somewhere by themselves in the new world or something? Why does their paradise pic not include other ethnic groups? Just an observation. I hope they don't respond to it.
